The strike ended in November 2025, when workers approved a five-year agreement that included a reported 24% wage increase over the contract term and a $6,000 signing bonus.
What happened in the Boeing strike?
The walkout involved approximately 3,200 IAM District 837 members at Boeing defense facilities in Missouri and Illinois. The union said the workers assembled and maintained advanced aircraft and weapons systems, including the F-15, F/A-18, and missile and defense technologies. The figure of 3,200 described the union members involved in the 2025 strike; it was not a current workforce estimate. IAM Union reported the walkout and affected sites.
The strike started Aug. 4, 2025, after workers rejected a Boeing offer. It was a three-month labor dispute, not an ongoing strike. The Associated Press reported that members approved a new agreement in November 2025.
Why did Boeing defense workers strike?
Pay and retirement benefits were among the subjects in negotiations. Workers rejected Boeing offers, and Boeing rejected a contract proposal from the union before the parties reached the final agreement. The early offers and the eventual settlement had different terms and should not be treated as one package.

Boeing’s position was that an earlier offer included 40% average wage growth and resolved the union’s primary issue on alternative work schedules. Dan Gillian, Boeing Air Dominance vice president and general manager, said after workers rejected that offer: “We’re disappointed our employees rejected an offer that featured 40% average wage growth and resolved their primary issue on alternative work schedules.” CBS News, citing the Associated Press, reported his statement on Aug. 4, 2025.
The union argued that Boeing needed to make a more meaningful offer. On Sept. 12, IAM International President Brian Bryant said: “Boeing must start listening to its employees and come back to the table with a meaningful offer that respects the sacrifices and skill of these workers.” IAM’s statement reflected the union’s position during the dispute.

Which Boeing plants were affected?
The affected Boeing defense facilities were in St. Louis and St. Charles, Missouri, and Mascoutah, Illinois, according to IAM. The union associated the sites with work on military aircraft and weapons systems, including F-15s, F/A-18s, and missile and defense technologies. Those descriptions came from the union; they do not establish how the walkout affected output or delivery schedules.
How did the strike end, and what did workers get?
Workers approved a five-year agreement in November 2025, bringing the strike to an end. The Associated Press reported that the settlement included a 24% wage increase across the life of the agreement and a $6,000 signing bonus. Those were terms of the final agreement, distinct from the earlier offer Boeing said included 40% average wage growth.
