There is no confirmed Boeing 797 program in the available reporting. Boeing has said it evaluates future markets and technologies, but that is not an announcement of a new aircraft or confirmation that “797” will be its name. No launch date, design, capacity, range, engine or delivery schedule is established.
What does “Boeing 797” mean?
“797” is an informal label used in discussion of a possible future Boeing airplane, not a confirmed model name in the sources available here. Reuters reported Boeing’s response to reports that it might develop a new single-aisle jet on September 30, 2025. Boeing spokesperson Ryan Cudney said the company was evaluating markets and technologies for a future product while focusing on its recovery and existing programs. That describes a general posture; it does not confirm a 797 or a launch decision. Reuters’ report on Boeing’s statement.
What has Boeing confirmed about a 797?
The cited reporting does not establish a formally launched 797 program. Boeing’s statement referred to evaluating the market, advancing technologies and improving financial performance so it would be ready “when the time is right to move forward with a new product.” It did not identify a specific airplane or say that a program had been approved.
Reuters also reported Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Stephanie Pope’s comments before Farnborough in July 2026. She said the company was focused on increasing and improving aircraft production, “not order announcement,” and on listening to customers and suppliers. Those remarks describe priorities for that event; they neither approve nor rule out a future airplane. Reuters’ report before Farnborough.

What is not known about the aircraft?
There is no supported 797 specification or schedule in the cited material. In particular, it does not establish:
- Whether Boeing will launch a new aircraft program, or when a decision might be made.
- Whether a future aircraft would be called the 797.
- Its configuration, passenger capacity, range or engine choice.
- A first-flight, certification or entry-into-service date.
That means figures sometimes attached to a “797” should not be treated as Boeing specifications unless Boeing formally publishes them or reliable reporting attributes them to a confirmed program.

Why Boeing’s existing work matters to the timing question
Boeing’s statements point to substantial attention on recovery and existing aircraft work, not to a disclosed 797 timetable. In September 2025, Cudney said the company was focused on its recovery plan, delivering its existing backlog and certifying the 737-7, 737-10 and 777-9. He described that backlog as nearly 6,000 commercial airplanes at that time; it is not a current backlog figure.
Boeing’s second-quarter 2026 results discussed 737 production and certification activity as well as 777X certification testing and delivery expectations. That provides context for the company’s workload, but the absence of a 797 reference in those results does not prove Boeing will never launch a new airplane. Boeing’s second-quarter 2026 results.

Do Boeing’s market forecasts predict a 797?
No. Boeing’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook projected demand for 43,600 commercial airplanes over 20 years and a global commercial fleet of approximately 50,000 airplanes by 2044. Those are broad industry forecasts, not a forecast of 797 sales, capacity or demand, and they do not show that Boeing will launch a new model. Boeing’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook.

As of October 8, 2026, the most accurate answer is that Boeing has not been shown in the cited reporting to have formally launched a 797. The company has described evaluating future products while emphasizing recovery, production and current aircraft programs. Until Boeing announces a specific program, “797” remains a label for speculation rather than a confirmed aircraft with published specifications or a schedule.
