Celebrity Net Worth estimates Bobby Bonilla’s net worth at $20 million. That is a publisher’s estimate, not an independently verified figure: no public accounting reviewed here establishes Bonilla’s current assets and liabilities. His well-known annual baseball payments help explain why he still receives money, but they do not establish how much wealth he has today.
What is Bobby Bonilla’s net worth?
Celebrity Net Worth lists Bonilla’s net worth as $20 million. Its figures are estimates, and the site does not provide a transparent Bonilla-specific balance sheet or calculation. Net worth means assets minus liabilities; reported salary and contract payments show income, not the full picture of taxes, spending, investments, property, debts, or private holdings.
For that reason, the $20 million figure is best read as a published estimate rather than a confirmed measure of his wealth.
Why does Bobby Bonilla still receive an annual payment?
The Mets deferred $5.9 million owed to Bonilla in 2000 rather than paying it immediately. Under the agreement, he receives 25 annual payments of $1,193,248.20, each due July 1, from 2011 through 2035. The recurring payment is widely known as “Bobby Bonilla Day.” MLB’s explanation of the deal and the Society for American Baseball Research’s Bonilla biography describe the arrangement.

The Mets payment is one installment arising from a deferred contract obligation. It is not a new salary, a direct measure of Bonilla’s total wealth, or the only deferred payment he receives.
A separate payment from the Orioles
Bonilla also has a separate deferred-payment arrangement with the Orioles. CBS Sports reported in 2026 that it pays him $500,000 annually from 2004 through 2028. The Los Angeles Times reported in 2024 that the payments ran through 2029, so published accounts differ on the final year. CBS Sports’ 2026 account gives the more recent schedule.

MLB reports that the Mets signed Bonilla to a five-year, $29 million contract in 1991, then deferred the $5.9 million owed to him. Those figures provide contract context, not a calculation of his present-day finances.

Celebrity Net Worth also reports $52 million in career salary and $94.7 million in total earnings, with the latter including scheduled future deferred payments. These are the publisher’s earnings figures, not audited totals or amounts Bonilla necessarily retained after taxes, expenses, and other financial activity. They should not be confused with its separate $20 million net-worth estimate.
The central distinction is straightforward: contract payments and career earnings describe money paid or scheduled to be paid; net worth describes the value of what someone owns minus what they owe. Without a reliable public accounting of both sides of that equation, the payment schedule cannot verify the estimate.
