The call reflects an organized supporter campaign, not proof that every fan wants a sale or that a sale process has begun.
What message did the supporters send?
On 23 January 2026, the Supporters Coalition called for a “phased strategic boycott of home fixtures” until Venky’s put Blackburn Rovers up for sale, according to BBC Sport. The demand was for the owners to make the club available for sale; the report did not say a buyer had been found or a sale process was under way.

Why are supporters calling for a sale?
The Supporters Trust’s concerns
We Are The Rovers Supporters Trust had already called for the owners to sell. In a statement dated 10 February 2025, it said it had told the club in January that it would make a public sale call if the transfer window did not bring adequate investment. The Trust cited concerns about investment, governance, engagement and the club’s relationship with supporters. Those are the Trust’s stated views, not findings independently established by the cited report. Its board said: “New owners who care for the club and will treat Rovers and its supporters with the respect we deserve are long overdue.” (We Are The Rovers Supporters Trust)

In its April 2025 newsletter, the Trust said 26% of season-ticket holders had not renewed. The Trust supplied that figure while recounting discussions with club officials; the cited material gives no methodology or independent verification. It should not be read as a count of boycott participants or as proof that those who did not renew were protesting the owners.
Club history and the stakes
Venky’s, a company formed by the Rao family, took over Blackburn in 2010 from a trust established in the name of former owner Jack Walker. The club was relegated from the Premier League in 2012 and has remained outside the top flight since, according to BBC background reporting.
What have the owners and club said?
In an interview reported by the BBC on 2 April 2025, senior club officials Suhail Pasha and Steve Waggott said Venky’s did not want to sell and had not received a concrete offer. Waggott said a legitimate offer with proof of funding, on terms the owners considered fair, could be considered. That was the position reported at the time; it does not establish the owners’ current intentions. (BBC Sport)
When the coalition announced its boycott proposal in January 2026, Blackburn urged unity and support for the team during a relegation fight, while acknowledging fans’ feelings. The club’s statement, as reproduced by the BBC, said: “The club recognises and respects the strength of feeling among sections of the fanbase and understands that supporters care deeply about the future of the club.”
