Printer promotions appeared before Black Friday, including early and rolling retailer offers in November. The event is now over, so the prices below are historical rather than current deals. The main lesson for future sales is straightforward: buy early when the total value is strong, but judge ink, toner, features and ownership costs—not just the discount printed on the box.
For reference, Best Buy’s 2025 deal page showed examples including the Canon PIXMA TS6520 at $79 and the HP DeskJet 2855e at $49.89. Those were dated historical snapshots, not August 2026 prices. See Best Buy’s printer-deal category.

When did the 2025 printer deals start?
Meaningful printer discounts generally began before the official shopping weekend. 2025 deal coverage pointed to early and mid-November as the period when shoppers could start finding offers, although retailers did not follow one universal timetable. Some used weekly promotions, others launched a formal Black Friday sale, and some extended discounts into Cyber Monday or early December.
Imaging Resource’s 2025 coverage identified Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Staples, Office Depot/OfficeMax and Target as retailers worth monitoring. HP used its own defined sale window: its 2025 terms listed “Black Friday” pricing from November 27 at 12:01 a.m. PT through November 29 at 11:59 p.m. PT. That illustrates why “Black Friday price” did not necessarily mean the same dates at every retailer.

- Mid-November: broader early offers were expected to become more common.
- November 28: Black Friday itself.
- December 1: Cyber Monday, with some printer deals continuing or changing.
- Early December: extensions were possible, but stock and model selection could be worse.
What counted as a worthwhile early printer deal?
An early offer was worth considering when it represented a genuine reduction from the model’s recent normal price, included valuable ink or toner, or lowered the printer’s expected ownership cost. A large percentage saving alone was not enough. Retailers can compare a sale price with manufacturer suggested pricing, a temporary previous price, a bundle price or a “comparable value.”
Best Buy’s displayed comparable-value figures, for example, should not automatically be treated as proof of a model’s normal market price. Match the exact model number and compare the final checkout price, not only the headline.
Historical examples from 2025
The directly documented Best Buy examples included a Canon PIXMA TS6520 at $79 and an HP DeskJet 2855e at $49.89. These figures should be read as historical observations from the 2025 shopping period. They are not recommendations to buy those models at those prices today, nor evidence that either was the lowest price of the year.

HP’s official 2025 materials also showed that some savings were conditional. Its terms included a $30 printer saving when an eligible HP PC was purchased. A buyer who did not need the PC should not count that as a standalone printer discount. Read HP’s published sale terms.
Which printer types were likely to be discounted?
Cartridge inkjet all-in-ones
Basic cartridge inkjets were among the most likely headline bargains. They suit occasional color printing, schoolwork and buyers who also need scanning and copying. Their low purchase prices can be misleading, however. Replacement cartridges may cost a substantial proportion of the printer, and starter cartridges can have lower yields than full replacements.
Before buying, check whether the printer includes automatic duplex printing, whether it has an automatic document feeder, and whether an advertised ink-subscription trial later converts to paid billing. A low-cost all-in-one can be sensible for light use, but it is often a poor choice for regular high-volume printing.

Refillable ink-tank printers
Epson EcoTank, Canon MegaTank and HP Smart Tank families were important categories to watch in 2025 deal coverage. Tank printers usually cost more upfront but can offer lower ink costs for families, frequent color users and small offices. Some include large bottles in the box, making a sale especially attractive when the included supply is genuinely useful.

They are not automatically the cheapest option. Very low-volume users may never recover the higher purchase price, and tank inkjets still require ordinary inkjet maintenance. Check for duplex printing, an automatic document feeder and the printer’s photo and document strengths rather than assuming every tank model is a complete office machine.
Monochrome laser printers
Monochrome laser printers were a strong fit for text-heavy home offices, students and small businesses. They produce sharp documents, are generally fast for text and avoid the liquid-ink drying concern associated with inkjets. Brother and HP LaserJet models deserved attention in this category.
Laser does not mean maintenance-free. Toner, drums, fusers, rollers and cleaning requirements still affect ownership costs. A monochrome model also cannot replace a color printer for photos or color presentations.
Color laser printers
Color laser models suit businesses that print regular color documents and prioritize speed and text quality over glossy photo output. Their purchase price and four-cartridge replacement costs can be high, and their footprint may be unsuitable for a small home workspace.

Photo printers
Canon and Epson photo-oriented models appeared in 2025 deal expectations and coverage. They can be worthwhile for dedicated photo printing, but a cheap printer price may be offset by specialty paper and ink costs. A photo printer is not necessarily a good general office printer, so compare paper handling, document speed and consumable prices separately.

Label and specialty printers
Thermal label printers, sublimation systems, craft printers, DTF equipment and white-toner machines serve specialized jobs. They should not be compared directly with a document inkjet or laser printer. Evaluate label size, software compatibility, media costs and the availability of proprietary supplies.
Should you buy early or wait?
| Situation | Practical choice |
|---|---|
| You urgently need a printer | Buy a verified, suitable offer early rather than risking a missed deadline. |
| The discount is modest and stock is plentiful | Compare prices and consider waiting for a later drop. |
| A tank or laser model includes valuable supplies | Buying early may make sense even if the sticker discount is not the largest. |
| The offer requires a subscription or PC bundle | Calculate the real cost before treating it as a bargain. |
| The model is old or its supplies are scarce | A large discount may not justify the support and consumables risk. |
| The deal is marketplace-only | Verify the seller, warranty, return policy and product condition. |
The roughly 10% threshold sometimes used by shoppers is only a rule of thumb, not an industry standard. A 10% saving on an expensive-to-run cartridge printer may be worse value than a smaller saving on a tank or laser model with affordable supplies.
Choose by workload, not sticker price
These practical volume bands can help narrow the field:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Under 25 pages per month: a basic inkjet or compact monochrome laser may be adequate. Very occasional inkjet use carries a greater risk of drying or clogging.
- About 25–150 pages per month: compare a standard inkjet with a tank model and monochrome laser. Duplexing and cartridge yields become more important.
- Above 150 pages per month: prioritize running cost, speed, paper capacity, automatic duplexing and duty-cycle guidance over the initial sale price.
These are buying guides, not manufacturer limits. Your color needs matter just as much:
- Black-and-white documents: start with monochrome laser.
- Occasional color: a cartridge inkjet may be sufficient.
- Frequent color: compare refillable tanks with color laser models.
- Photos: assess photo quality, paper support and ink consumption independently.
Calculate the real cost
Use this simple ownership estimate:
Estimated ownership cost = printer price + replacement ink or toner − included consumable value + subscription fees + paper and maintenance costs.
For a useful two- or three-year comparison, estimate monthly pages and identify the exact cartridge or toner yields and prices. Do not label a printer “cheapest to run” without stating the page volume, consumable prices, yields and calculation date. Photo printing can use supplies much faster than light document printing.

Subscription and account terms
Some HP promotions included Instant Ink messaging or trial benefits. Before accepting one, check whether the subscription is optional, when a trial converts to paid billing, whether unused pages roll over, and what happens after cancellation. Also check whether setup or ongoing use requires an online account or vendor app.
A subscription may be useful for predictable printing, but it changes the real cost and may limit the appeal of an otherwise inexpensive printer. Confirm that the printer remains usable after cancellation and review the terms for third-party cartridges or refills.

- Amazon: broad selection, but check whether the seller is Amazon, the manufacturer or a marketplace vendor.
- Best Buy: useful for brand comparison, pickup and returns, though availability can vary by ZIP code.
- Walmart and Target: often competitive for entry-level models, with local inventory affecting the result.
- Staples and Office Depot/OfficeMax: relevant for office printers, supplies, pickup and possible rewards or recycling programs.
- HP, Canon, Epson and Brother: manufacturer stores can offer direct warranty support, bundles and model-specific promotions.
- Specialist photo and office retailers: worth checking for professional, wide-format and specialty equipment.
One retailer may discount the printer while another offers cheaper ink, paper or toner. Compare the whole purchase. A marketplace listing may also have different warranty, seller and return terms from the retailer’s own inventory.
Ten-point checklist for verifying a printer deal
- Search the exact model number, not merely the product family.
- Confirm whether it is new, open-box, refurbished or marketplace-sold.
- Check the included ink or toner and its stated page yield.
- Confirm automatic duplex printing.
- Check whether scanning and copying include an automatic document feeder.
- Verify Wi-Fi, USB, Ethernet, AirPrint, Mopria and Windows or macOS support as relevant.
- Read account, app and subscription requirements.
- Check return, warranty and price-adjustment rules.
- Compare current replacement consumable prices.
- Check whether a newer model has replaced the discounted printer and whether supplies remain readily available.
Common ways printer deals go wrong
The price disappears at checkout
Stock, location, coupon limits, membership status, store pickup and seller changes can alter the advertised price. Save the model number and check the final cart total.
The cheap printer has costly cartridges
This is the most common failure mode. A $40–$60 printer may be economical for occasional use but expensive for regular printing. Compare a higher-priced tank or laser model over the period you expect to own it.

The multifunction printer lacks an ADF
All-in-one describes the functions, not the convenience. A printer may scan and copy but still require each page to be placed individually on a flatbed. For home-office work, an ADF and duplex scanning may be worth more than a small price reduction.
The printer requires an app or online account
App-assisted setup is different from a continuing account requirement. Buyers who want USB-only, offline or shared-office use should check the setup documentation and connectivity options before purchase.
The model sells out
Choose alternatives by use case: another cartridge all-in-one, a comparable tank model, a monochrome laser substitute or an older model only when its drivers and supplies remain supported.

Forecasts and live deals were sometimes mixed together in holiday coverage. Treat each claim as one of four different things: an expected category, a live early offer, a verified price during the retailer’s sale window, or a historical deal. A prediction is not proof that a model was discounted, and a discounted model is not automatically a good buy.
The best 2025 approach was to track a short list by use case, record the exact model and ordinary price, then compare the final offer with consumables and features. That method remains more reliable than waiting for a large percentage-off label.
For future holiday shopping, monitor retailer pages in early November, but do not wait for Black Friday solely because the calendar says a lower price might appear. Stock can disappear, and a suitable early deal with useful included supplies may be better than a theoretical later bargain.
