Bitcoin Rebounds Above $83,000 While Tech Futures Fall: What the Data Shows

Bitcoin’s rebound during a technology-futures selloff marked a session-level divergence, while StoneX reported positive rolling 20-session correlations with Nasdaq 100, SOX, and Kospi futures.

Bitcoin’s sharp rebound during the Asian-session selloff in technology-related futures was a one-session divergence—not evidence that it had durably decoupled from stocks. In a report published October 13, 2026, StoneX said Bitcoin’s rolling 20-session correlations with Nasdaq 100, semiconductor, and Kospi futures had strengthened since early October. The report did not establish why Bitcoin reversed.

What happened to Bitcoin and technology futures?

StoneX Market Analyst David Scutt reported that Bitcoin first fell below $81,000, near its 50-day moving average, then reversed sharply. Technology-related futures did not recover alongside it. Bitcoin’s rebound stalled above $84,000 before BTC/USD fell back below $82,277.67 support. The $83,000 level had briefly stalled the price overnight.

These figures describe the intraday chart snapshot in StoneX’s October 13, 2026 report. They are not current prices or lasting forecasts. The report characterized the rebound as uncertain: Scutt wrote, “What’s notable is that we haven’t seen a recovery in technology-related stock futures accompany it, putting a question mark over whether the rebound is anything more than a dead-cat bounce.”

Does the episode show Bitcoin decoupling from stocks?

No. It shows Bitcoin moving differently from technology-related futures during that session, but the evidence in the report does not establish a lasting break in their relationship. StoneX reported that rolling 20-session correlations had strengthened since the beginning of October:

Market comparison Rolling 20-session correlation
Bitcoin and Nasdaq 100 futures +0.69
Bitcoin and SOX futures +0.57
Bitcoin and Kospi futures +0.52

The readings are from StoneX’s October 13, 2026 report, whose correlation graphic credits TradingView and LSEG. A positive correlation indicates that the markets tended to move in the same direction over that specified sample; it does not mean they moved together in every session, nor does it show that one market caused the other to move.

What can—and cannot—be concluded from the figures?

The useful distinction is between a short-term divergence and a longer-window relationship. Bitcoin’s reversal while technology futures remained weak is a session-level observation. The correlations summarize co-movement across 20 sessions and, according to StoneX, had been rising since early October. Neither observation alone predicts what prices will do next.

  • For the single-session move: Bitcoin rebounded while technology-related futures did not recover alongside it.
  • For the broader comparison in the report: all three reported 20-session correlations were positive.
  • For a fair comparison: specify the instrument, the correlation window, the observation date, and whether the claim concerns one session or a longer period.

The report does not verify a catalyst for Bitcoin’s reversal. It therefore does not support attributing the move to Korean investors shifting money out of stocks, institutional flows, macroeconomic news, or another specific cause. It also does not independently establish the scale of Korean-market declines or validate the quoted prices against a live exchange.

How to read the dated price levels

StoneX identified $81,000 as an approximate 50-day moving average, $82,277.67 as a support level, $83,000 as an overnight level that had briefly stalled the price, and a stall above $84,000 during the rebound. Those are technical references from the report’s October 13 snapshot, not current trading levels or investment guidance. StoneX describes its short-term market commentary as potentially specific to the day and not investment advice.
