Bitcoin was trading near $82,000 on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after briefly topping $87,000 the previous Friday. The firm QCP Capital, as reported by The Block, sees an $80,000–$90,000 base-case range for the fourth quarter of 2026. That range is one firm’s conditional scenario. It is not a consensus forecast, and it is not a floor or a ceiling the market is obligated to respect.
The price move, dated
The pullback is the reference point for everything else in this article, so it helps to pin down its dates before reading the forecasts:
- Friday, October 2: Bitcoin traded above $87,000, according to The Block’s account of the move.
- Thursday, October 8: Bitcoin was near $82,000 in the same reporting. These are dated snapshots. Check a live price before treating either level as current.
- Wednesday, October 7: U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $487.1 million in net outflows, the largest single-day figure in the flow data The Block cited.
The Block’s full report, which includes the QCP scenarios and the flow data discussed below, is at The Block, “Bitcoin pulls back as analysts forecast $80,000-$90,000 Q4 trading range” (October 8, 2026).
What QCP’s $80,000–$90,000 range actually assumes
A forecast range is only as useful as the conditions attached to it. According to The Block, QCP’s Q4 view rests on ETF demand, and the firm’s buy and reduce zones are explicitly tied to whether those inflows return.

The base case and the two action zones
QCP expects ETF inflows to be positive but inconsistent. In that base case, the firm identifies $80,000–$82,000 as an area to buy and $88,000–$90,000 as an area to reduce exposure, with the reduction conditional on ETF inflows failing to pick up. Those zones describe the firm’s stated positioning. They are not validated support or resistance, and they are not guidance for any individual.
Upside and downside scenarios
The scenarios are where the range can break, and their conditions are specific:
| Scenario (QCP, as reported by The Block) | Price level | Conditions the report lists |
|---|---|---|
| Bull case | Above $100,000 | Sustained ETF inflows, stablecoin supply growth, a Fed pause after weaker employment data, a softer dollar, lower real yields, and progress on the CLARITY Act. All of these would need to occur together. |
| Base case | $80,000–$90,000 | Positive but inconsistent ETF inflows, with the buy and reduce zones described above. |
| Bear case | Below $68,000–$70,000 | Intensified fighting in the Middle East, rising oil prices, further Fed rate hikes, returning ETF outflows, or a forced sale by a corporate Bitcoin holder. |
The bull and bear cases are not symmetric in how they are framed. The bull case lists several macro conditions that must align, while the bear case lists several independent triggers, any one of which could be enough. That asymmetry is a feature of how the scenarios were written up, and it is worth keeping in mind when you weigh them.

The ETF flows behind the pullback
ETF flows are the clearest recent data point in the outlook, and they cut in both directions. The Block reported the following figures from its compiled data:
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches| Date | U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF net flow | Context in the report |
|---|---|---|
| Tuesday, October 6 | $118.8 million net inflow | The session before the outflow day |
| Wednesday, October 7 | $487.1 million net outflow | BlackRock’s IBIT $207.7 million, Fidelity’s FBTC $105.2 million, and Ark Invest/21Shares’ ARKB $101.7 million |
| Five trading sessions before the October 7 outflow | $165.6 million net outflow | Followed a nine-session inflow streak totaling $3.1 billion |
Two points matter for reading these numbers. First, the five-session outflow total is a short-term figure that followed a long inflow streak, so it reflects a shift in direction rather than a multi-month trend. Second, the three funds named account for most of the October 7 outflow, which means the withdrawal was concentrated rather than spread across the category.
The Block also cited Glassnode for an order-book observation: a sell wall near $86,500 and large buy orders, the largest of them near $81,000. That is a description of where orders sit, not evidence that those orders will hold.

The second outlook: 21Shares on October 6
21Shares published its own Q4 framework two days before The Block’s report. Its outlook, 21Shares, “Bitcoin defies a historically weak September as fundamentals lead” (October 6, 2026), centers on $81,000 as a key support area. It says the quarter depends partly on whether that level holds, whether long-term yields stabilize, and whether ETF demand persists.
The two outlooks overlap on flows and key levels, but they are built differently:
| Comparison point | QCP Capital (via The Block, October 8) | 21Shares (October 6) |
|---|---|---|
| Core framing | An $80,000–$90,000 Q4 base-case range with buy and reduce zones | $81,000 support, with a bullish path tied to a monthly close above the yearly open, which the outlook places near $88,000 |
| Demand evidence | ETF inflows that are positive but inconsistent | Whether ETF inflows continue |
| Macro sensitivity | Fed policy, employment data, the dollar, real yields, oil, and Middle East fighting | Long-term yields and renewed hawkish pressure |
| What would invalidate the view | A bear case below $68,000–$70,000 | A loss of $81,000 with stalled flows |
The practical difference is where each outlook draws its line. QCP defines a wide range and a lower bear level. 21Shares defines a narrower decision point around $81,000. A reader who sees both should notice that they agree on the importance of ETF demand and disagree on which level signals the trend has changed.

Seasonality: what the historical figures do and do not show
21Shares also cites historical patterns, calculated with CoinGlass data as the outlook attributes them:
- September has averaged a 2.4% loss since 2013.
- Bitcoin closed September 2026 up 6.2%, which is why the outlook’s headline describes September as historically weak but not weak in practice this year.
- October finished higher in 10 of the last 13 years, with a 14% median return.
- Q4 has historically been Bitcoin’s strongest quarter on average and at the median. The outlook does not give a single numeric Q4 average, so no such figure should be quoted from it.
These are backward-looking statistics computed over a short history of a volatile asset. They can describe what has tended to happen, but they do not model why, and they say nothing about the conditions QCP is watching. Use them as background for the outlook rather than as a separate reason to expect a particular outcome.

The bullish view is not only technical. Thomas Perfumo, Kraken’s chief economist, told The Block: “The arrival of spot ETFs brought in a new class of investors, while a more supportive regulatory environment and growing use of crypto across traditional financial services have strengthened the market’s fundamentals.” He also said that “If financial conditions ease, particularly if spurred by further policy intervention via injections of liquidity, bitcoin could have a shorter path towards its previous high.”

Those are Perfumo’s assessments, not conclusions the reporting establishes independently. The same macro variables that feed the bull case, such as lower real yields, a softer dollar, and a Fed pause, are the ones QCP lists as triggers for the bear case if they move the other way.
Signals to watch before you act on any range
Rather than tracking the boundaries, monitor the conditions both outlooks name. Each signal below has a source you can check yourself:
- Daily ETF flows. Look for whether net inflows resume after the October 7 outflow, and whether they stay positive across several sessions rather than one.
- The $81,000 area. Check whether price holds above it on a daily close, which is the level 21Shares treats as decisive.
- The $68,000–$70,000 zone. This is the bear-case threshold QCP identifies. A move below it is the signal that the base case has failed.
- Long-term yields and the dollar. Both outlooks treat these as drivers of the macro backdrop, so a sustained change in either matters for the forecast.
- Fed decisions and employment data. The bull case depends on a pause, and the bear case on further hikes.
- Corporate Bitcoin holdings. QCP lists a forced sale by a corporate holder as a bear trigger, which would appear in company filings and news rather than in price data alone.
What this means for your own money
For most readers, the useful takeaway is about process rather than direction. A quarterly range gives you a way to talk about risk, not a schedule for trades. If you already hold Bitcoin, the outlook is a reason to check whether your allocation is still the size you chose on purpose, especially after a move of roughly five percent in a few days. If you do not hold it, the pullback is not a reason to start buying on a deadline the forecast implies.
Two practical checks are worth doing before any decision. First, confirm the current price, because the figures above are snapshots from October 8. Second, write down the conditions that would make you change your plan, using the signals listed above, before the price moves. That keeps the forecast in its proper role as one input among several.
This article is general information about a market outlook, not personal investment advice. It does not account for your income, time horizon, tax situation, or existing holdings.
The Bottom Line
Treat QCP’s $80,000–$90,000 range as a conditional scenario that depends on ETF demand and macro conditions, not as a forecast you can plan around. The more useful question for your money is whether your own allocation and decision rules still fit your situation.
