Registration for Advertisement No. 2/2022/ESTT ran from 19 April to midnight on 9 May 2022, so its old application link is not a current way to apply. The advertised total of 276 comprises 275 direct-recruitment vacancies and one Director (Legal) post filled on deputation.
Official BIS recruitment links and current status
The notice was issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on 16 April 2022. BIS’s recruitment advertisements and results archive contains the historical notice and later selection-stage records. The BIS career opportunities page is the place to check for newer notices; the 2022 application period should not be treated as open.
The advertisement page links the detailed notice and an informatory corrigendum. BIS specifically directs candidates to that corrigendum for Junior Secretariat Assistant. For historical eligibility or application details, use the linked documents rather than assuming one set of criteria applied to every post.
What the 276 vacancies included
The vacancy figures below follow the post-wise counts in Advertisement No. 2/2022/ESTT. The 276 total is calculated by adding the 275 direct-recruitment vacancies to the one deputation vacancy; it is not a count of 276 direct-recruitment jobs.

The notice covered administration, finance, secretarial support, horticulture, CAD, laboratory work and technician trades. Technical Assistant (Laboratory) vacancies were divided among Mechanical, Chemical and Microbiology disciplines; Senior Technician vacancies were divided among trades. The notice reserved the right to increase or decrease vacancy numbers as required, and appointment could be at BIS offices anywhere in India.
Application dates and selection process
- Advertisement date: 16 April 2022.
- Online registration: 19 April through midnight on 9 May 2022.
- Online examination: The format varied by post. For several categories, the notice specified 150 questions, 150 marks and 120 minutes, with different sections depending on the role.
- Further stages: Assistant Director recruitment included an online exam and interview. Some technical and support roles required a qualifying skill, practical, shorthand or trade test after the online exam.
- Progression: The notice generally required at least 50% aggregate marks to progress. Specified technical posts also required at least 50% in the relevant discipline. Meeting a threshold did not itself guarantee shortlisting; candidates were ranked under the selection rules.
BIS’s archive records later stages linked to the advertisement. A December 2022 notice said results for Assistant Section Officer, Personal Assistant, Stenographer and Senior Secretariat Assistant had been declared and called provisionally shortlisted candidates for skill tests; the archive also records final results and other stages during 2023.

How to check eligibility in the historical notice
There was no single eligibility rule for all 276 advertised vacancies. Qualifications, experience, age limits, category-based relaxations, fees, pay and selection stages depended on the post and, where applicable, the candidate’s category. Check the detailed advertisement and the relevant corrigendum for the particular role; do not rely on a summary for another post.
