What is Birmingham City’s current ownership?
BBC Sport reported that after the November 2025 transaction, Shelby Companies Limited held 96.64% of Birmingham City Limited. That holding company owns 100% of Birmingham City Football Club Limited and Birmingham City Women Football Club Limited. The percentages refer to different levels of the ownership structure: Shelby’s share of the holding company is not the same as the holding company’s ownership of the operating clubs. Takeover timeline
- July 2023: Shelby Companies Limited acquired a controlling stake; BBC Sport reported its holding at that stage as 45.98% of Birmingham City Limited.
- November 7, 2025: Shelby completed the acquisition of the remaining 51.1% stake previously held by ZO Future Group, bringing its reported holding in Birmingham City Limited to 96.64%.

On February 11, 2026, Birmingham City announced that Wagner had suffered a stroke, received immediate treatment and was recovering. The club said he would step back from day-to-day activity for a period and that its plans and operations would continue under strong leadership. In an update dated July 30, 2026, Knighthead said Wagner continued to make strong progress in his recovery. He would miss the following day’s match at St Andrew’s and remained grateful for supporters’ messages. The statement did not announce a change in the ownership structure or say that he had returned to day-to-day operations. No. In February 2026, Shelby Companies Limited completed a separate purchase of 97% of Birmingham City’s women’s team, with independent investors holding the remaining 3%, according to BBC Sport. This was a later development relating to the women’s team, not a second takeover of the men’s club.
