Bill Cosby’s East 71st Street townhouse was listed for $29 million in September 2025, amid a lender’s foreclosure-related allegations. Realtor.com later reported that it sold for $28 million, with the deal closing November 9, 2025. The separate East 61st Street townhouse has a different lender dispute and listing history.

What happened to the $29 million townhouse?

The East 71st Street property, at 18 East 71st Street, was listed for $29 million on September 14, 2025. Realtor.com reported that the sale closed at $28 million on November 9, 2025. The reported sale price was $1 million below the asking price; the available reporting does not establish the sellers’ net proceeds or the terms of any loan payoff. Realtor.com’s September 2025 listing report and its November 2025 sale report distinguish the listing price from the reported closing price.

What were the foreclosure concerns?

First Foundation Bank alleged that the Cosbys had missed repayments and owed unpaid property taxes on loans secured by the East 71st Street home. According to the lender’s claims as reported by Realtor.com, the two loans were $12.25 million from 2010 and $5.25 million from 2014, totaling $17.5 million. The bank asked Manhattan Supreme Court to force a sale. These are allegations reported from the lender’s claims, not a court finding established by the available reporting.

The loan total should not be treated as the townhouse’s sale price, its current debt balance, or a measure of what the sellers received. The reported sale price is $28 million, but the reports cited here do not provide a final accounting of liens, payoff amounts, transaction costs, or proceeds.

What is notable about the East 71st Street house?

Realtor.com reproduced details from the listing for the seven-story, approximately 13,000-square-foot residence, known as the Luyster Mansion. The listing describes a neo-French Classic house designed by John Duncan and completed in 1899. Its listed features include hand-carved limestone, copper mansards, a Carrara marble vestibule, mahogany floors, 11 fireplaces, and an original elevator connecting nearly every level. These are listing-derived descriptions reported by Realtor.com, not independent architectural verification. Realtor.com’s report on the home’s listing details provides the attributed description.

How does the East 61st Street townhouse differ?

Cosby’s separate East 61st Street townhouse had its own reported CitiMortgage dispute and a different listing history. Realtor.com reported that CitiMortgage alleged a $4.2 million loan, with $3.7 million in principal plus interest and fees owed. In a later update, listing agent Adam Schneider told the outlet, “All issues with the lender have been resolved,” but the report did not explain the terms of that resolution.

That property was relisted in January 2026 for $6.75 million, reduced to $5.99 million in late April, and removed from the market on July 29, 2026, according to Realtor.com. Removal from the market does not, on its own, establish that it sold. These events concern the East 61st Street property, not the East 71st Street sale or First Foundation’s allegations. Realtor.com’s East 61st Street update reports its listing status and lender-related update.
