BIG W launched its 2024 Big Whopping Toy Sale online and in stores on 11 June 2024, giving families a chance to plan birthday and Christmas gifts months ahead. The sale details below are historical: the reported 2026 event ran from 9 June to 8 July and has ended, and later sale dates have not been established.
What BIG W announced for the 2024 sale
In its 11 June 2024 announcement, Woolworths Group said more than 500 products were on offer and that the range included a 45% increase in new products. Those figures describe the 2024 event; they are not current offers or a forecast for a later sale.
BIG W framed the event as an opportunity to buy gifts well before Christmas. Chief Toy Buyer Christine Faulkner said families had turned to the sale for both value and guidance on choosing toys. That describes the retailer’s positioning, not a guarantee that a sale item is the lowest price available.

Why families may plan gifts early
BIG W’s 2024 report said nearly three in five Australian parents shop sales to stock up on toys for birthdays and Christmas. It also reported that 41% of parents named value for money as one of their most important considerations when buying toys. These are findings reported by BIG W, not independently verified national estimates.

BIG W did not establish in the cited release that these categories are sale recommendations or that the percentages measure demand for any particular product.
How to make a toy-sale budget work
Planning ahead can help spread gift spending across the year, but a sale label alone does not show that a purchase fits your budget. Decide what you need before browsing and assess each item against its intended recipient and the price you can verify at the time of purchase.
