What did Bhatti Vikramarka ask for?
According to The Times of India’s October 8, 2026 report, Vikramarka asked the Union government to set up two regional offices in Hyderabad: one for GSTN and one for the GST Council Secretariat. The report places his appeal during the 57th GST Council meeting.

These are distinct institutions. GSTN is the technology network supporting GST administration, while the GST Council Secretariat serves the Council. The official GST Council website identifies Vikramarka Mallu as Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister and a Council member, and lists the Secretariat’s address in New Delhi. Telangana’s Finance Department identifies him as Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister.

Why did he propose Hyderabad?
The newspaper report attributes the proposal’s rationale to Hyderabad’s technology, data-analytics and artificial-intelligence ecosystem, as well as the city’s location. Vikramarka argued that these strengths could help bring the GST framework closer to states and support technology-driven tax administration, including systems to detect tax evasion and fraud.

Those are arguments for the proposal, not demonstrated outcomes. The available sources do not show that locating regional offices in Hyderabad would improve fraud detection or produce other measurable administrative gains.
What did he say about Telangana’s representation?
The report also says Vikramarka sought greater Telangana representation in GST bodies. It attributes to him the view that the state had not received adequate representation in key committees despite being an active tax base. That is his reported position; the available sources do not provide committee-membership or comparative tax-base data to verify it as a statistic.

Have the offices been approved?
No approval, opening, or Hyderabad site assignment is established by the available sources. The official Council website confirms the institutional context and Vikramarka’s role, but the material located there does not provide a matching record of the 57th meeting that verifies his intervention or documents a decision. The meeting number and account of the request should therefore be understood as reported by The Times of India, not as a confirmed Council resolution.
