The FTC’s BetterHelp refund program covers certain customers who signed up and paid for services between August 1, 2017, and December 31, 2020. The agency announced in May 2024 that refund notices would go to about 800,000 people; payments began in June 2024, and the FTC reported a second round in April 2025. That announcement is not a notice that refunds are newly being sent in 2026.
What the FTC announced about the BetterHelp settlement
On July 14, 2023, the Federal Trade Commission said a final order required BetterHelp to pay $7.8 million to resolve FTC charges. The agency alleged that BetterHelp disclosed customers’ email addresses, IP addresses, and answers to health questions to third parties for advertising, despite privacy promises. The allegations were resolved through the settlement and order; they should not be read as a new finding about an individual customer’s account. FTC announcement, July 14, 2023

Who may qualify for a refund?
The FTC’s eligibility description covers people who signed up and paid for services on a BetterHelp website from August 1, 2017, through December 31, 2020. The covered services include these brands:

When were payments sent, and how much was distributed?
The FTC’s refund page reports two payment rounds. The amounts and counts refer to the agency’s reported distributions, not a promise of a specific amount to every customer.

The FTC’s 2024 annual report separately says more than $5 million was returned to BetterHelp customers in 2024. How were refunds paid?
The FTC lists PayPal, Zelle, and check as the program’s payment methods. The public program information does not establish which method was selected for an individual or whether a particular payment has been completed. Check your own payment details with the administrator rather than assuming that a general payment update applies to your case. FTC BetterHelp refunds page
