Best Xfinity Mobile Plans in 2025: Which Plan Was Right for You?

In 2025, Unlimited was the best default for most Xfinity Mobile customers, Premium fit heavy-data and hotspot users, and By the Gig suited very light users—if the full Internet bundle made sense.

For Xfinity Mobile’s 2025 lineup, standard Unlimited was the best fit for most people and families; Premium Unlimited made sense for heavy data, hotspot, 4K streaming, or frequent phone upgrades; and By the Gig could cost less for someone who consistently used very little cellular data. Those prices only tell part of the story: Xfinity Mobile required eligible Xfinity Internet service, so compare the full household bill, not just the wireless charge.

This is a historical comparison of plans offered in 2025—not Xfinity’s later Mobile Select and Mobile Plus lineup.

Quick verdict: which 2025 plan was best?

Need Best fit Why
Most users and families Unlimited Lower multi-line prices and 30 GB of premium data per line before possible slowdowns.
Heavy cellular-data use Premium Unlimited 100 GB of premium data per line, plus 30 GB of high-speed hotspot data.
Very low, predictable cellular use By the Gig $20 per GB could undercut unlimited if usage stayed low.
Frequent phone upgrades Premium Unlimited Eligible customers could qualify for Xfinity’s Elite Upgrade benefit, subject to terms.
Family with mixed usage Unlimited, with Premium for heavy-use lines if eligible Multi-line pricing favored households, and not every line necessarily needed the premium tier.

These are usage-based recommendations, not a claim that one plan was universally best. The plan descriptions and prices below come from Xfinity materials and community posts; verify the terms that applied to your account and promotion.

2025 plan prices and features

The following monthly service prices were listed for 2025. Multi-line amounts are account totals, not per-line rates. Xfinity’s published employee response listed pricing through four lines and an additional-line charge for lines five through ten.

By the Gig $20 per GB $20 per GB, shared $20 per GB, shared $20 per GB, shared Shared data; line pricing not stated in the cited 2025 announcement Shared cellular data billed by gigabyte.
Unlimited $40 $60 total $80 total $100 total $20 per additional line Unlimited data with 30 GB of premium data per line; hotspot at reduced speeds; 480p video.
Premium Unlimited $50 $80 total $110 total $140 total $30 per additional line Unlimited data with 100 GB of premium data per line; 30 GB high-speed hotspot; 4K UHD video.

Sources: Xfinity’s 2025 plan announcement and Xfinity employee pricing response. By the Gig’s stated $20-per-GB rate is from the announcement; its multi-line table cells describe shared data, not a separate per-line charge.

For one through four lines, the listed effective per-line prices were $40, $30, about $26.67, and $25 for Unlimited; Premium Unlimited worked out to $50, $40, about $36.67, and $35. That arithmetic is useful for comparing mobile service, but it is not a household-savings calculation: Internet service, taxes, fees, devices, and optional add-ons are separate.

What Unlimited included—and where its limits mattered

Unlimited was the sensible default if a line usually stayed below 30 GB of cellular data and did not need Premium’s extras. Xfinity described it as unlimited data, but only the first 30 GB per line per month was premium data. After that threshold, data remained available but could be slowed or deprioritized during congestion. A 2025 support response also confirmed the 30 GB threshold.

Unlimited included talk and text, Canada and Mexico talk, text, and data benefits, WiFi PowerBoost, and mobile hotspot access at reduced speeds. Video streaming was listed at 480p. The plan’s low multi-line price was its main appeal; the trade-off was a lower premium-data threshold and fewer high-use features than Premium Unlimited.

When Premium Unlimited justified the higher price

Xfinity introduced Premium Unlimited on April 22, 2025. It raised the premium-data threshold to 100 GB per line per month, included 30 GB of high-speed hotspot data before reduced hotspot speeds, and supported 4K UHD streaming. It also included WiFi PowerBoost and Xfinity Call Guard. Xfinity’s announcement describes these benefits and the launch date: Premium Unlimited announcement.

The premium tier cost $10 more for one line than Unlimited; the listed difference rose to $20 for two lines, $30 for three, and $40 for four. It was more compelling when the line actually used what it bought:

  • More than 30 GB of cellular data: the larger premium-data allowance could reduce exposure to congestion-related slowdowns compared with standard Unlimited.
  • Regular tethering: 30 GB of high-speed hotspot data was a distinct allowance, not 100 GB. After it, hotspot speeds were reduced.
  • High-resolution cellular video: 4K UHD was available on Premium, compared with 480p on standard Unlimited.
  • Frequent phone upgrades: Elite Upgrade offered eligible customers the opportunity to upgrade up to twice a year. Xfinity advertised a guaranteed device discount of up to $830 with an eligible trade-in, but that maximum was not a universal credit or a free phone. Device, trade-in, payment, and promotion conditions applied.
  • Spam-call controls: Call Guard was an included Premium feature.

Premium was less persuasive for someone who usually used Wi-Fi, stayed comfortably below 30 GB, rarely tethered, streamed at ordinary resolution, and kept a phone for years. A useful comparison is the annual extra cost against benefits you will actually use—not the plan name.

When By the Gig could beat unlimited

By the Gig cost $20 per GB, with data shared across lines. At the listed rate, 1 GB cost about $20, 2 GB about $40, 3 GB about $60, and 4 GB about $80. That can suit a consistently light user, but the math changes quickly as use rises. The 2025 announcement describes the shared-data option and rate: Xfinity Mobile plan announcement.

“Mostly on Wi-Fi” does not guarantee low cellular use. Background app activity, photo backups, navigation, video, social feeds, and weak Wi-Fi connections can shift traffic onto cellular. Check recent usage on each phone, including months away from home, before choosing a per-gigabyte plan. If use varies unpredictably or several people share the pool, unlimited may be easier to budget for even when a low-use month would make By the Gig cheaper.

Choose by household and usage pattern

One-line customer

At the 2025 listed prices, Unlimited was $40 and Premium Unlimited $50. Consider By the Gig if cellular use was reliably very low; otherwise, choose Unlimited unless the higher data threshold, hotspot, 4K, or upgrade benefits would be valuable enough to cover Premium’s additional cost.

Family or multi-line household

The listed Unlimited totals were $60 for two lines, $80 for three, and $100 for four; Premium totals were $80, $110, and $140. A mixed-use household could potentially put heavy-use lines on Premium and lighter ones on Unlimited, but confirm the account’s 2025 eligibility and pricing rules before relying on a mix-and-match arrangement. Do not call the wireless amount total household savings until you include Internet and other charges.

Heavy streamers and hotspot users

Premium was the stronger fit for cellular use above 30 GB, 4K viewing, or regular laptop and tablet tethering. Keep the two data measures separate: the 100 GB premium-data threshold applied to phone data, while high-speed hotspot data had its own 30 GB allowance.

  • Compatible with major cable internet providers including Xfinity and Cox. NOT compatible with Verizon, Spectrum, AT&T, CenturyLink, DSL providers, DirecTV, DISH and any bundled voice service. Best for cable provider plans up to 800Mbps.

International travelers

The clearest 2025 inclusion was talk, text, and data in, to, and from Canada and Mexico on both unlimited plans. Premium advertised broader international advantages, but the exact destination, data allowance, and roaming terms should be checked before travel. Later Xfinity travel documentation refers to newer plan terms, so it should not be treated as proof that every 2025 customer had the same benefits. Check the destination-specific terms in Xfinity’s international travel guidance.

Customers who do not have Xfinity Internet

Xfinity Mobile was positioned as a companion service for eligible Xfinity Internet customers, not a straightforward mobile-only alternative. Current Xfinity terms state an Internet requirement and describe possible charges if Internet service is not maintained; exact 2025 account terms should be checked rather than assumed from today’s wording. See Xfinity’s plan terms. If switching would mean taking a more expensive broadband plan, compare that broadband cost with your existing service before judging the mobile price.

Motorola MG7550 2-in-1 Cable Modem with Built-in WiFi Router
  • 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem plus a built-in AC1900 Dual Band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) WiFi Gigabit Router with four Gigabit (GigE) Ethernet ports, a firewall DFS, Power Boost, and more. This product is recommended for actual cable Internet service speeds up to 375 Mbps. A Broadcom cable modem chipset provides security from Denial of Service attacks. WiFi performance is exceptionally good, even in multi-dwelling units with lots of WiFi noise from neighbors. DFS and Power Boost are key
  • Requires cable Internet service. Approved by and for use with Comcast Xfinity and Xfinity X1, Cox, Charter, Time Warner Cable, Suddenlink, WOW., CableOne and other cable service providers. Eliminate cable modem rental fees up to 156 dollars per year. (Savings are shown for Xfinity and vary by cable service provider. No cable modem is compatible with fiber optic, DSL, or satellite services from Verizon, AT&T, CenturyLink, Frontier, and others. Model MG7550 has no phone jack.)
  • Built-in high-speed Wi-Fi router with AC1900 Wi-Fi, and Power Boost, and DFS provides Internet access for Wi-Fi devices including smartphones, notebooks, tablets, game stations, HDTVs, Amazon Echo, Google Home, Chromecast, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and AppleTV. Four 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports provide wired connections to Windows and Mac computers, HDTVs, game stations, streaming TV devices, and other Ethernet-capable devices.
  • Wireless Power Boost adds high-performance WiFi power amplifiers to boost the wireless signals to the legal limit, giving a significant boost in speed and range. The router can work on WiFi DFS frequencies, unlike most routers, so it is much less vulnerable to WiFi interference from neighbors. In addition, AnyBeam beamforming at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies focuses the signal on wireless clients to further enhance performance and range.
  • Integrating the cable modem and router creates a reliable connection that reduces unwieldy wiring and power adapter clutter while conserving desk space. The vertical design minimizes shelf space and improves cooling while looking great in any home or office. A two-year warranty plus rugged lightning and power surge circuits protect your investment.

For a fair comparison, calculate the bill both during a promotion and after it ends. A phone rebate or discounted service can depend on a trade-in, installment plan, eligible line, Internet tier, or minimum service period; a headline offer is not necessarily the recurring price.

Network, Wi-Fi hotspots, and coverage

Xfinity Mobile combined cellular service with access to Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots. Compatible devices could connect to available hotspots and use less cellular data, while WiFi PowerBoost was promoted as a Wi-Fi performance feature. Comcast claimed access to more than 23 million hotspots in 2025; that is a company figure, not an independent measurement of how many usable hotspots you will encounter. See Comcast’s 2025 announcement.

Hotspot access does not establish cellular coverage or guarantee a fast connection. Experience depends on signal and congestion where you use the phone, hotspot availability and quality, device compatibility, and whether the device is actually connected to Wi-Fi or cellular. Check coverage for home, work, commute, and frequent travel locations before switching; do not treat a company speed or reliability claim as a guarantee for your address.

Important catches to check before signing up

  • Internet bundle economics: compare the complete broadband-and-mobile bill with the services you have now.
  • Promotional pricing: record the standard price after any discount or free-line period ends.
  • Unlimited versus premium data: unlimited total data did not mean unlimited data at the premium-data tier; congestion-related slowdowns could apply after 30 GB on Unlimited or 100 GB on Premium.
  • Separate hotspot allowance: Premium’s 30 GB high-speed hotspot allowance was not the same as its 100 GB premium phone-data threshold.
  • Device eligibility: before bringing a phone, verify that it is unlocked and compatible, and confirm eSIM or physical-SIM support and any financing or trade-in conditions.
  • International terms: confirm the exact country, high-speed allowance, and roaming rules rather than assuming “international” means the same thing everywhere.
  • Elite Upgrade terms: twice-yearly upgrade eligibility and an advertised maximum trade-in discount were conditional benefits, not two free phones each year.

What changed after 2025?

Xfinity later promoted Mobile Select and Mobile Plus, and its current support information says By the Gig is available only to customers who joined Xfinity Mobile before April 22, 2026. Those later offerings are not the 2025 Unlimited and Premium Unlimited plans compared here. For the current lineup and eligibility, see Xfinity’s current unlimited-data information; do not use its later prices to reconstruct a 2025 bill.

How to make the decision

  1. Confirm that you are comparing the 2025 plans and check whether you had eligible Xfinity Internet.
  2. Use each line’s recent cellular-data history, not a guess based on how often it connects to home Wi-Fi.
  3. If a line regularly used less than 30 GB and did not need Premium features, start with Unlimited; if usage stayed very low, compare the $20-per-GB math for By the Gig.
  4. If a line regularly exceeded 30 GB or needed high-speed hotspot, 4K streaming, or upgrade benefits, compare Premium’s added cost with the specific feature value.
  5. Compare the complete monthly household bill, including Internet, devices, fees, and the price after promotions expire.
  6. Check coverage and destination-specific roaming terms before moving numbers or traveling.
