Best fit by workload: AccuWeb Hosting is the strongest low-cost shared Windows choice; IONOS is the value-oriented Windows VPS pick; InterServer offers a conventional VPS alternative; Hostwinds suits buyers planning to scale; and Liquid Web is the premium managed option. These are different service categories, so a $3.49 shared plan is not an equivalent alternative to a $147.05 managed VPS.
Prices and features below reflect published information available on August 16, 2026. They are editorial recommendations based on platform fit, published features, support model, scalability and pricing signals—not independent performance testing.

Search coverage places these companies among leading Windows-hosting providers, but rankings differ because some comparisons mix shared hosting, VPS and dedicated servers. See current comparison coverage for that broader context.
Do you actually need Windows hosting?
Windows hosting means the server runs Microsoft Windows Server, commonly with IIS, Plesk, ASP.NET, .NET and Microsoft SQL Server. Your own computer can run Windows, macOS, Linux, a tablet or a phone; the desktop operating system does not determine the server platform. GoDaddy explains the platform distinction.

Choose Windows when your application requires
- ASP.NET Framework, ASP.NET Core or Classic ASP.
- IIS-specific configuration, Windows-integrated authentication or Windows-only components.
- Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft Access compatibility.
- Visual Studio publishing, Web Deploy or other Windows-centric deployment workflows.
- A legacy application that depends on .NET Framework, COM components, ODBC/OLE DB drivers or Windows scheduled tasks.
Microsoft’s ASP.NET hosting guidance lists Azure and other providers, reinforcing that framework, database, deployment and operational requirements matter more than the word “Windows” alone.
Linux is usually simpler when you use
- WordPress, PHP, MySQL or MariaDB.
- Static HTML, CSS and JavaScript.
- Most open-source CMS platforms and modern JavaScript applications.
WordPress can run on Windows/Plesk or Linux/cPanel, but Windows is not automatically better for it. GoDaddy’s guidance recommends choosing based on the application stack.
1. AccuWeb Hosting: best affordable shared Windows hosting
AccuWeb’s Windows comparison lists Windows Server 2022, Plesk Obsidian, ASP.NET Framework, ASP.NET Core, Classic ASP, PHP, MSSQL Server 2019 databases, email, free daily backups, 24/7 chat and phone support, and a 99.9% uptime guarantee.
| Plan | 36-month introductory price | Listed monthly renewal | Published resources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beginner | $3.49/month | $6.99/month | 1 domain, 10 GB SSD, 500 GB bandwidth, 250 MB RAM, 1 MSSQL database |
| Professional | $8.99/month | $17.99/month | 3 domains, 30 GB SSD, 1 TB bandwidth, 500 MB RAM, 3 MSSQL databases |
| Turbo | $13.99/month | $27.99/month | 5 domains, 50 GB SSD, 1.5 TB bandwidth, 750 MB RAM, 5 MSSQL databases |
The cited page lists 500 MB per MSSQL database on these shared plans. That makes AccuWeb a strong fit for a small ASP.NET site, student project, legacy ASP application or light SQL-backed website—not a database-heavy business system.

Buy AccuWeb if
- You need Windows shared hosting and do not need administrator access.
- Your traffic and memory requirements fit the published tiers.
- You have confirmed the exact .NET runtime and database limits your application needs.
Avoid it if
- You need RDP, custom Windows services, sustained CPU or substantial RAM.
- You require SQL Server editions or database sizes beyond the shared offering.
- You are comparing only the first 36-month price instead of renewal cost.
2. IONOS: best budget Windows VPS value candidate
IONOS promotes Windows VPS and VPS+ products with scaling options on its Windows VPS page. A comparison page lists a $6 monthly Windows shared-hosting entry point, but that is not universal U.S. pricing; country, currency, promotion, billing term and product type change the total. See the comparison signal and verify the live checkout.
IONOS’s Canadian page lists Windows hosting from CA$4 per month and describes ASP.NET 4.8, .NET 8.0, SQL Server, MySQL and Access support. Those Canadian details are evidence of product direction, not U.S. pricing. Check the country-specific page for its stated scope.
Best use
Choose IONOS when you need more isolation and control than shared hosting but cannot justify premium managed infrastructure. Before paying, confirm RAM, storage, Windows licensing, backups, management scope, renewal price and the data-center region.
Not a fit when
You need white-glove application support, a guaranteed response commitment or a fixed worldwide price.

- 256 GB SSD of storage.
- Multitasking is easy with 16GB of RAM
- Equipped with a blazing fast Core i5 2.00 GHz processor.
3. InterServer: best straightforward Windows VPS alternative
InterServer appears in current Windows-hosting shortlists alongside IONOS, Liquid Web, Hostwinds and AccuWeb (comparison coverage). Its practical role here is as a conventional VPS alternative rather than a guaranteed cheapest provider.
Verify before ordering
- Windows Server edition and available versions.
- vCPU, RAM, SSD/NVMe storage and bandwidth.
- Plesk availability and licensing.
- Backup frequency, retention and restore charges.
- Windows license fees and managed versus unmanaged support.
Do not publish or rely on a precise price until the current U.S. product page and checkout at InterServer show it.
Best use
InterServer suits buyers comfortable administering a VPS who want a middle ground between shared hosting and premium managed service. It is a poor fit for guaranteed managed migration, application debugging or a fully hands-off environment.
4. Hostwinds: best for scalable Windows VPS hosting
Secondary coverage lists Hostwinds Windows Server choices through 2022, Plesk and a $14.94 monthly starting signal (source). Treat that figure as volatile until the official site confirms the billing term, Windows license and management level.

Questions to answer before purchase
- Can RAM, CPU, storage and bandwidth be upgraded independently?
- Does the displayed price include Windows licensing and Plesk?
- Are backups automatic, optional or customer-managed?
- Is server management included?
- Does scaling occur in place or require migration?
- What is the renewal price?
Hostwinds is relevant when resource growth is likely. It is not the right default for a basic brochure site or for someone who cannot administer Windows Server.
5. Liquid Web: best premium managed Windows infrastructure
Liquid Web’s Windows page lists Windows VPS from $147.05 per month on a two-year plan. The displayed entry example includes 4 vCPU cores, 4 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD storage, 10 TB bandwidth, Windows Server 2022, Plesk Obsidian, 50 GB Acronis Cyber Backups and DDoS protection. Higher displayed tiers are $184.45 and $232.05 per month.
Liquid Web states support for Windows Server 2022 Standard and Datacenter; SQL Server 2022 Standard, Web, Express and Enterprise; Plesk; 24/7/365 support; proactive monitoring; OS and software updates; migration help; a 99.999% network and power uptime claim; and a 30-minute hardware-replacement SLA for applicable infrastructure. These are provider statements, not independently measured results.
Best use
Liquid Web fits businesses, agencies and SQL-backed applications where managed operations, migration assistance and infrastructure support justify the premium.

Avoid it if
You run a small personal site, can use Linux, prefer an unmanaged VPS or simply need the lowest monthly price.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Shared Windows hosting versus a Windows VPS
| Requirement | Shared Windows hosting | Windows VPS |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Lowest | Higher |
| Administration | Minimal | Customer responsibility varies |
| Resource isolation | Limited | Greater |
| Administrator access | Usually unavailable | Usually available |
| Custom software | Restricted | More flexible |
| Traffic spikes | Limited tolerance | Easier to accommodate |
| Best for | Small sites and basic applications | Business applications and growing workloads |
A managed Windows VPS adds operating-system patching, monitoring, backups, security assistance, migration and control-panel support. An unmanaged VPS may cost less but leaves you responsible for patching, hardening, monitoring and troubleshooting. Managed infrastructure does not normally include fixing application code, SQL queries, third-party libraries or business logic.
How to choose a plan
- Basic ASP.NET or Classic ASP site: Start with shared Windows hosting, provided runtime and database limits match the application.
- Several sites or a moderate application: Choose a Windows VPS with sufficient RAM, administrator access and a documented backup plan.
- SQL-heavy or business-critical system: Prefer managed Windows VPS or cloud infrastructure and budget for database, backup and support requirements.
- High traffic or custom services: Evaluate dedicated Windows infrastructure or a cloud platform such as Azure App Service.
- No Windows-specific dependency: Choose Linux hosting for simpler, usually broader hosting support.
Checklist before you pay

- 24/7 availability, Windows expertise, migration scope and any response-time SLA.
Total cost

Costs people commonly miss
A promotional monthly figure can hide a large first-term commitment. Compare the amount charged today, effective monthly cost, renewal price and two- or three-year total. Also price Windows and Plesk licenses, SQL Server editions, backups, dedicated IPs, extra storage, migration and data-transfer charges. AccuWeb’s published introductory and renewal figures demonstrate why both must appear together (plan details).
Legacy migration checks
Before moving an older application, inventory its .NET Framework version, IIS settings, application-pool mode, 32-bit dependencies, COM components, drivers, file permissions, scheduled tasks, SMTP behavior, SQL compatibility, Windows authentication and URL-rewrite rules. A host that advertises “ASP.NET support” may still lack the exact runtime or integration mode you need.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFinal recommendations
- Best shared value: AccuWeb Hosting, for small Windows applications that fit its resource and MSSQL limits.
- Best budget VPS candidate: IONOS, after checking the U.S. checkout, license, backup and management details.
- Best scalable VPS: Hostwinds, if its current upgrade path and total Windows cost meet your requirements.
- Best conventional VPS alternative: InterServer, after verifying the live Windows plan.
- Best managed business hosting: Liquid Web, when support and operations matter more than low price.
For ASP.NET teams already using Microsoft’s cloud ecosystem, Azure App Service is another option, but its cost depends on tier, region, instance count, storage, databases, bandwidth and add-ons rather than a simple shared-hosting sticker price.
