Editor’s note: The prices in this article were captured during Walmart’s Cyber Monday sale on December 2, 2024, which was scheduled to end at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Those promotions have expired; this page is a historical deal roundup and price-history reference, not a live shopping list.
The best-balanced deal was the Acer Aspire 3 at $299, with a Ryzen 7 5700U, 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD. For gaming, the Acer Nitro V at $599 offered the clearest value, while the Lenovo LOQ at $879 targeted substantially higher performance. Apple shoppers had the M1 MacBook Air at $599. Inventory, sellers and configurations could change rapidly even during the sale.

Best budget laptops
Acer Aspire 3: the strongest value at $299
The Aspire 3 combined the most useful everyday specification set in the roundup: a Ryzen 7 5700U, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and a 1080p screen. That combination is better suited to browser tabs, video calls, office applications and light creative work than a cheaper laptop with 4GB memory. It was the default pick for a buyer who wanted a conventional Windows laptop without immediately needing upgrades.

Skip it if: you need a current-generation processor, unusually bright or color-accurate display, or certainty about a specific Walmart marketplace seller.
HP Laptop 15: $199, but only for light use
The 15-fd0083wm used a Pentium N200, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and Windows 11 Home in S mode. It could suit a child, kiosk, basic schoolwork or cloud-focused use, but 4GB memory and 128GB storage are serious long-term constraints. Windows S mode limits installations to Microsoft Store apps until the user switches out; that switch is generally one-way.
Skip it if: you multitask, keep files locally, install traditional desktop software or want several years of comfortable use.

HP Essential 17: screen size over sharpness
The $399 HP Essential 17 offered a 17.3-inch panel, Core 3 100U, 8GB RAM and a 256GB SSD. Its 1600×900 resolution is materially less sharp and provides less workspace than a 15.6-inch 1920×1080 display. Choose it for physical size and readability at home, not for the best image quality.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3
At $429, the IdeaPad Slim 3 paired a Ryzen 7 7730U with 16GB RAM, a 512GB SSD and a 1080p touchscreen. That is a more balanced office and student configuration than a faster-sounding processor attached to a low-resolution panel.
HP Laptop 15 with Core i7
The $499 HP included a Core i7-1355U, 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD, but its listed display was only HD. The extra storage is useful, yet processor branding does not compensate for a visibly weaker screen at this price.

HP Pavilion 16
The $649 Pavilion 16 had a 16-inch 1920×1200 display, Ryzen 7 8840U and 512GB SSD, but only 8GB RAM in the listed configuration. That may limit long-term multitasking compared with the 16GB Acer and Lenovo alternatives.
Gaming laptop deals
Acer Nitro V 15 RTX 4050: value 1080p gaming
For $599, the Nitro V listed an RTX 4050, Core i5-13420H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD and a 144Hz 1080p display. It was the most compelling entry-level gaming price in the roundup. Laptop Mag said it had not tested this exact deal and cited a 4.4/5 customer rating, so that rating is not equivalent to professional testing.

Lenovo LOQ RTX 4070: the performance step-up
The $879 LOQ paired an RTX 4070 with 12GB dedicated graphics memory, Ryzen 7 7435HS, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and a 144Hz 1920×1200 panel. It offered a much higher performance ceiling, but RTX 4070 laptops do not perform identically. GPU power limits, cooling, screen response and upgradeability remain important.

MSI Thin 15: more storage, not automatically a better deal
The $799 MSI Thin 15 listed a Core i7-13620H, RTX 4050, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 144Hz 1080p display. Its extra storage over the Nitro V was the principal listed advantage; the higher price did not establish better gaming value. Thin designs can trade thermal headroom, noise or battery life for portability.

MacBook Air M1 at $599
WIRED described the M1 Air as its cheapest MacBook recommendation and suitable for browsing, email, word processing and light video editing. The deal covered a 2020 model with 8GB unified memory and 256GB storage. Confirm application compatibility, external-monitor needs, ports and expected support life before choosing it over a newer Windows laptop with more memory or storage.
Best Value
- Designed for mobility with a slim 0.71-inch profile and lightweight 3.24 lb chassis, making it easy to carry between home, office
Skip it if: you require Windows-only software or need substantial local storage.
Surface Pro 11
The Surface Pro 11 snapshots showed approximately $1,579 to $1,679 for a 13-inch 2880×1920 120Hz display, Snapdragon X Elite, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. The difference may reflect a variant or page update. Confirm the exact SKU and whether the keyboard and stylus are included; ARM app and peripheral compatibility also matters.
How to judge whether a Walmart discount was real
A displayed “was” price is not automatically a recent selling price or an all-time low. It may represent a list price, manufacturer suggested price, a marketplace seller’s former price, or a temporary Walmart+ or app offer. The 2024 coverage said some deals rivaled prior-year Cyber Monday prices, but that does not prove a historical low; WIRED’s comparison provides context rather than a complete price-history record.
- Match the full model number, processor, RAM, storage and display resolution.
- Check whether Walmart or a third-party marketplace seller is responsible for fulfillment, returns and warranty.
- Recalculate savings from the displayed prices instead of trusting promotional copy.
- Include tax, shipping, protection plans, accessories and required upgrades in the total cost.
Minimum sensible specifications
- For a Windows laptop intended to last, target at least 8GB RAM; 16GB is preferable.
- Choose at least a 256GB SSD, with 512GB more comfortable.
- Prefer 1920×1080 or better on a 15-inch-class screen.
- Check webcam, microphone, Wi-Fi generation, USB-C functions and upgradeability.
- For gaming, evaluate the GPU power limit and cooling—not just the RTX model number.
Data and promotion caveats
The detailed Aspire 3 listing reported $393 to $299, while a quick-links section appeared to reverse the numbers; the detailed listing is the more plausible figure, but the inconsistency should be noted. Surface Pro prices varied between $1,579 and $1,679, likely reflecting a variant or update. A separate Logitech Brio 300 claim contained mathematically inconsistent savings, illustrating why “save” amounts need independent calculation. Game bundles mentioned with the Nitro V and LOQ were time-limited promotions, not guaranteed benefits today.
Walmart+ was advertised at $49 for an annual membership during the 2024 promotion, described as 50% off. That historical offer should not be treated as current pricing. A one-time laptop purchase justified membership only if delivery, shipping or other benefits offset the fee; see the official membership destination at Walmart+.
Final recommendations
- Best balanced budget choice: Acer Aspire 3 at $299.
- Best all-around productivity choice: Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 at $429.
- Best affordable gaming choice: Acer Nitro V 15 at $599.
- Best higher-performance gaming choice: Lenovo LOQ at $879.
- Best macOS choice: M1 MacBook Air at $599, if its older hardware and macOS meet your needs.
For current replacements, use Walmart’s laptop search, gaming-laptop search or MacBook search, and verify today’s seller, configuration, warranty and price.
