The right choice depends on whether you want to practise cash stocks, options and futures, or strategy review—and on how the simulator handles prices, fills and costs. The shortlist below compares provider-described features, not tested performance.
Which virtual trading app should you try?
Virtual trading, or paper trading, lets you practise with simulated funds rather than placing orders with real trade capital. A price feed can be real or broker-sourced while the order fill remains simulated; that does not make it equivalent to an exchange execution. Treat each app’s advertised features as claims to verify in its current listing or terms.
| Option | Provider-described fit and features | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| FrontPage | Its Google Play listing describes practice for stocks, options and F&O, alongside virtual funds, trade history, journaling and community features. It lists ₹10 lakh in virtual money. | Features and balance are developer-provided claims; the listing was updated September 28, 2026. Check current availability, features and privacy settings in Google Play. FrontPage on Google Play |
| PaperFolio | Its provider page describes NSE stock and F&O practice, ₹1,00,000 in virtual capital, price feeds sourced from Dhan and Fyers, and modeled trading charges. It says practice uses no real orders or funds. | These are provider claims, not independent verification of data timing or execution realism. Confirm current plan terms and data access. PaperFolio |
| ZeroStake | Its provider materials describe NSE and BSE instruments, selected MCX products, options features, replay, journaling and P&L review. | ZeroStake discloses that simulated fills, charges, margins and results may differ from live-account conditions. ZeroStake ZeroStake on Google Play |
| Zerodha Kite demo | Zerodha’s official page links to a demo of its live trading platform, which it describes as having charts and trading tools. | The available information does not establish that the demo is a full consumer paper-trading app, so investigate its scope before treating it as a simulator alternative. Zerodha |

How to choose based on what you want to practise
For stocks, options or futures practice
Start by checking the exact instruments and exchanges you need. FrontPage’s listing describes stocks, options and F&O; PaperFolio describes NSE stocks and F&O; ZeroStake describes NSE and BSE instruments plus selected MCX products. These descriptions do not establish that every instrument or contract is available in every feature or session. Confirm the current app details before building a practice routine around them.

For a journal, replay or community
Look for the workflow that supports your learning goal. FrontPage describes trade history, journaling and community functions. ZeroStake describes replay, journaling and P&L review. Verify how each feature works in the current version: for example, whether a journal records your reason for entry and exit, or whether replay supports the dates and instruments you want.
For broker-linked or modeled costs
PaperFolio says it uses price feeds sourced from Dhan and Fyers and models trading charges. That does not establish endorsement, referral or affiliate status, nor does it show that simulated data access or cost treatment will match your own broker account. Check the provider’s current explanation of feed timing, fees and any account-link requirement.

What to check before committing to a simulator
Feature coverage alone is not enough to judge whether a simulator will teach habits that transfer to live trading. Compare these practical details in the provider’s current documentation:
- Market and instrument coverage: Confirm cash equities, futures, options, exchanges and contract availability rather than relying on broad labels such as “F&O.”
- Price data: Find out whether prices are real-time, delayed, replayed or sourced through a broker, and during what hours they are available.
- Order and fill assumptions: Check supported order types and whether simulated fills account for spread, liquidity, slippage, latency, partial fills and rejected orders.
- Costs and margin: Determine whether brokerage, taxes, other charges and margin are modeled—and whether the model matches the live account you might later use.
- Practice tools: Decide whether you need strategy building, replay, backtesting, journals or analytics, and confirm what the product actually provides.
- Access and account conditions: Check whether you need an app or browser, a broker connection, an account, a subscription or payment. Review privacy settings and what information the service collects.

Why simulator results can differ from live trading
A simulator can help you rehearse decisions and keep a record of what you did, but a profitable simulated run does not establish future profitability. ZeroStake specifically warns that simulated outcomes can differ from live-account conditions because of liquidity, spreads, slippage, latency, partial fills, rejected orders, costs and margin. A simulator’s fill is a model; in a live account, an order interacts with market conditions and may not execute at the displayed price or at all.
PaperFolio says its practice does not use real orders or funds. That avoids committing trade capital inside the simulator, but does not make app use free of other concerns: accounts, data sharing, subscriptions or misplaced confidence can still matter. Read the terms and privacy information, and treat simulated performance as practice rather than a forecast.
NSE’s simulated environment is not a retail paper-trading app
The National Stock Exchange of India describes a separate simulated environment for exchange members to test their own Non-NEAT front-end products. Its official FAQ says the facility supports specified segments and trading-day hours and is accessed through exchange-member connectivity rather than the public internet. It is therefore not an ordinary consumer simulator in the shortlist. Check NSE’s FAQ for current operational details. NSE FAQs on Simulated Environment
Quick Recap
A sensible way to use virtual trading
- Choose one narrow learning goal. For example, practise placing a defined order type or recording why you entered and exited a trade.
- Check the simulator’s assumptions first. Note its data timing, fill model, supported instruments and treatment of costs and margin.
- Keep a consistent journal. Record the setup, decision, simulated execution and outcome so you can review process as well as P&L.
- Review limitations alongside results. Ask whether the outcome may depend on fills or costs that would be different in live conditions; do not read a simulated gain as evidence of likely future returns.
