What happened to the 2024 travel deals?
Promotions have two separate clocks: the booking window and the dates when travel is allowed. A future travel date does not make an offer available after its sales deadline.
- Southwest Week of WOW: Southwest announced up to 40% off base fares for bookings through October 3, 2024. The discount applied before government taxes and fees, with market-specific travel windows, blackout dates, and limited seats. A separate flight-and-hotel promotion ran October 1–14, 2024, with savings dependent on destination and package spend. Both offers are expired. Southwest’s October 1, 2024 announcement also described a Rapid Rewards cruise-booking partnership promotion that ended October 31, 2024; it does not establish current cruise terms.
- Qatar Airways holiday offer: The 2024 offer’s sales period ended December 3, 2024, and its travel validity ended March 31, 2025. Discounted seats were subject to availability and fare-rule blackout periods; surcharges could apply, and ticket taxes and service fees were excluded. See the Qatar Airways offer page.
These historical promotions illustrate why the fine print matters, but they cannot be used to recommend a current booking.

“Up to” savings describe a maximum, not the price every traveler will receive. Availability, destination, fare class, blackout dates, package requirements, and fees can change the result.
How to compare travel deals before paying
- Match the itinerary. Compare the same travel dates, destination, room or cabin type, flight fare class, traveler count, and package components. A lower headline price is not comparable if it buys a different trip.
- Calculate the payable total. Include mandatory taxes and fees, baggage, resort or port charges, transfers, and any required package spend. Check whether meals, onboard credit, excursions, or resort benefits are included rather than assuming they are.
- Check dates and availability. Record the booking deadline separately from the permitted travel window. Read blackout dates, minimum-stay and advance-purchase rules, and any limits on seats, rooms, cabins, or destinations.
- Read change and cancellation terms. Compare the restrictions for the exact fare, room, cabin, and tour. A cheaper nonrefundable option may cost more if plans change.
- Price the package against separate bookings. Compare equivalent flights, lodging, cruise components, or tours with the same dates and inclusions. A package discount does not by itself prove the package is cheaper than booking those components separately.
- Recheck at checkout. Promotions can change, and taxes, fees, or eligibility may only become clear in the booking flow. Confirm the final total and rules immediately before purchase.
What makes a hotel, flight, cruise, or tour deal worthwhile?
Hotels
Compare the full stay total, room type, length-of-stay requirement, cancellation terms, and included benefits. Confirm whether the displayed rate includes mandatory charges and whether breakfast, parking, or resort amenities are actually part of the offer.
Flights
Check the fare class, baggage rules, change conditions, eligible routes, and travel dates. A percentage off the base fare may leave taxes and fees unchanged, as Southwest’s expired 2024 promotion explicitly did.
Cruises
Compare the cabin category and sailing, then check port charges, included meals or onboard credit, transfers, and cancellation terms. A cruise-booking promotion or package headline does not show whether those elements are included; verify the booking terms.
Tours
Confirm the itinerary, group size if stated, included admissions or meals, transportation, departure dates, and cancellation policy. When booking through an advisor or offer page, determine which operator provides the trip and whose terms govern it.

The cited offer pages do not provide an independent, like-for-like price dataset that establishes any promotion as the best available. Their discounts are provider claims, and the real value depends on your dates, destination, inclusions, and flexibility. Treat a headline discount as a lead to investigate, not proof of savings.
