How to compare travel affiliate commissions
Start by identifying the action that earns a commission and the amount used to calculate it. A percentage of a merchant’s commission is not the same as a percentage of a booking, and a click-out is not the same as a completed or stayed booking.
- Commission base: Is the rate calculated from the booking price, a partner’s commission, or another amount?
- Qualifying event: Does a click, lead, completed booking, or completed stay trigger payment?
- Attribution window: How long after a referral can a qualifying action earn credit? This is not the same as the time it takes to receive a payout.
- Current availability: Approval, geography, rates, and terms can vary. Check the current offer and agreement before publishing a specific claim.

Tripadvisor: hotel research and click-outs
Tripadvisor’s model is unusual among the figures compared here because the stated commission is a share of Tripadvisor’s own commission from hotel booking partners. The company says affiliates can earn when a referred visitor clicks through, whether or not that visitor books. That makes the offer potentially relevant to hotel comparison and destination research content, but its “at least 50%” figure must not be interpreted as a share of the booking total.

- Hotel comparisons: Consider whether a click-out model such as Tripadvisor’s fits pages where readers compare lodging options before choosing a property.
- Trips spanning multiple booking types: Expedia Group’s creator account covers Expedia, Vrbo, and Hotels.com; confirm current eligible-booking terms in the account.
- Itineraries and attraction guides: Activity offers such as Viator, GetYourGuide, Tiqets, or Big Bus Tours may fit recommendations placed next to specific stops. Treat their cited rates as third-party examples until confirmed.

Why this is not a verified ranking of 21 equal offers
A separate directory lists programs including Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Expedia Group, Agoda, Trip.com, Viator, Klook, Tripadvisor, Skyscanner, Kiwi.com, Discover Cars, World Nomads, SafetyWing, Hostelworld, Airalo, Holafly, Omio, G Adventures, Kayak, and Marriott Bonvoy. That directory is useful for discovering possible partners, but its reported rates are not the programs’ own terms. Current first-party commission bases, conversion events, windows, geographic restrictions, and eligibility were not verified for most of these names, so listing them as a ranked set of 21 current offers would imply more certainty than is established.
Before joining or promoting any program, confirm the current commission basis, qualifying event, attribution window, eligible countries, application requirements, cancellation treatment, and payment terms in the program’s own materials. Rates can change, and a high percentage alone does not predict earnings: the audience’s booking intent and the value of eligible transactions matter too.
