Historical U.S. snapshot: The best September 2025 Galaxy S25 deal depended on whether you wanted an unlocked phone, had a trade-in, and were willing to stay with a carrier for 24 or 36 months. Amazon’s reported $719.99 unlocked Galaxy S25 128GB was the cleanest low-risk bargain. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, Boost, and Xfinity Mobile advertised larger savings, but their lowest prices came with plan, line, trade-in, financing, or bill-credit conditions.
Apple announced the iPhone 17 on September 9, 2025, but “skip the iPhone” was not a universal financial conclusion. Compare the full wireless cost and the consequences of canceling before choosing.
Historical deal roundup: The prices and promotions below were reported during September 2025 and should be treated as expired unless a retailer independently confirms them today.
The short answer
If you wanted the lowest-risk purchase, the reported $719.99 unlocked Galaxy S25 128GB from Amazon was the clearest September deal: an $80 reduction from the $799.99 launch price, with no new line or long-term bill-credit requirement. Buyers with a valuable trade-in could do better through Samsung, AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Xfinity Mobile—but those savings generally required a qualifying plan, financing, a new line, or 24–36 months of bill credits.

The strongest premium-phone offer was AT&T’s reported Galaxy S25 Ultra at $8.34 per month for 36 months after up to $1,000 in promotional credits. That equals about $300.24 in device payments before taxes and service-plan costs. The best “free” phone offers were not truly free in the ordinary sense: the device payment reached $0 only because the carrier subsidized it over time.
One important correction to the original premise: Apple announced the iPhone 17 on September 9, 2025, at a U.S. starting price of $799, with sales beginning September 19. Whether an S25 was a better choice depended on your ecosystem, camera priorities, trade-in, and wireless plan—not simply on the headline price. Apple’s announcement and Samsung’s launch details provide the relevant price and timing context.

What was actually in the Galaxy S25 family?
The original flagship range consisted of the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra. Samsung announced U.S. starting prices of $799.99, $999.99, and $1,299.99 respectively; general availability began February 7, 2025. The original models used the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy platform and came with Samsung’s promise of seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates. Samsung’s launch announcement lists the starting prices and storage configurations.

| Galaxy S25+ | $999.99 | 6.7-inch display and 4,900mAh battery | Many offers referred to 256GB storage. |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra | $1,299.99 | 6.9-inch display, 5,000mAh battery, S Pen, and highest-end cameras | Some promotions included a 256GB-to-512GB upgrade. |

The S25 FE deserves separate attention because it launched just five days before Android Central’s September 9 update. It offered the S25 family’s software and AI direction at a lower starting price, but it did not have the same processor or camera system as the flagship S25 models. Samsung’s S25 FE announcement confirms its U.S. launch price, date, and specifications.
Best unlocked Galaxy S25 deals
Amazon: the cleanest base S25 discount
Android Central’s September 9 snapshot reported the unlocked Galaxy S25 128GB at Amazon for $719.99. That was $80 below the launch price and was the most straightforward deal for a buyer who wanted to own the phone without a carrier lock, new line, or multi-year credit agreement.
Android Central also reported up to $650 in Amazon trade-in value. That value was described as an Amazon gift card rather than necessarily an immediate reduction in the phone’s checkout price. Treat a gift card as cash only if you would otherwise spend that amount at Amazon.
Later, Tom’s Guide reported the unlocked Galaxy S25 Ultra at Amazon for about $1,048 on September 26. That was a different point-in-time snapshot, not necessarily the price available on September 9. The same roundup reported changing prices for the S25+ and retailer incentives, so verify model, storage, and seller before comparing. Android Central’s September 9 roundup and Tom’s Guide’s September 26 roundup should not be blended into one simultaneous price table.

Early-September coverage reported up to $250 off unlocked S25-series phones at Best Buy and Amazon. Tom’s Guide also noted that some Best Buy prices changed depending on whether the buyer connected the phone to AT&T or Verizon during checkout. That means a lower displayed price was not automatically an unlocked, no-obligation price.
Before buying, confirm whether the offer is an instant discount, retailer gift card, carrier activation incentive, or trade-in credit. Also confirm the storage tier: a discounted 128GB S25 is not directly comparable with a 256GB S25+ or a 512GB Ultra upgrade.

Samsung.com: best for direct trade-in control
Samsung’s September promotions were more complicated but potentially valuable:
- The September 9 Android Central snapshot reported up to $580 off with trade-in or up to $250 off without trade-in on the S25 Ultra, depending on the exact configuration.
- For the S25+, Android Central reported up to $480 off with trade-in in its September 9 snapshot.
- Tom’s Guide later reported up to $700 off plus a $100 Samsung credit on the S25+, showing that Samsung’s promotion changed during the month.
Those S25+ figures are not contradictory if treated as dated snapshots. They should not be presented as one guaranteed September offer. TechRadar’s September 1 coverage also described up to $250 off upfront or up to $580 in trade-in savings across the range.

Samsung’s terms also warned that failing to ship the trade-in within 15 days could result in a chargeback for the anticipated credit. Best carrier deals—and the real commitment behind them
Verizon: $0 device payment on the base S25
Verizon’s reported offer made the base Galaxy S25 free after promotional credits with an eligible line and plan. The S25+ was also reported as free under qualifying versions of the promotion, while the S25 Ultra was listed at $12.99 per month with a new line on Unlimited Ultimate in Android Central’s September 9 snapshot.
The important detail is the credit period: Verizon’s offers used 0% installment financing and promotional credits over 36 months. Cancel the line or move it to an ineligible plan and the credits can stop; the remaining device balance may then become payable. A $0 device payment does not make the Verizon account free. Check Verizon’s S25 page and its offer documentation for the exact historical conditions.
AT&T: the strongest reported Ultra device price
AT&T’s September coverage reported:
- Galaxy S25 at $10.99 per month for 36 months, or $395.64 in device payments before tax and service costs.
- Galaxy S25+ at $12.99 per month for 36 months, or $467.64 before tax and service costs.
- Galaxy S25 Ultra at about $8.34 per month for 36 months after up to $1,000 in credits, or approximately $300.24 in device payments.
The Ultra offer required an eligible trade-in and qualifying unlimited service. AT&T’s launch terms required installment financing and said bill credits could take up to three billing cycles to begin. Credits can stop when service is canceled, leaving the remaining device balance due. Activation or upgrade fees, taxes, and the cost of the required plan also matter. See AT&T’s launch terms and the S25 Ultra listing.

T-Mobile: potentially best for a damaged trade-in
T-Mobile’s official launch framework offered:
- S25+ on us, or up to $1,000 off any S25-series model, with an eligible trade-in on Go5G Next.
- S25+ on us with a working eligible trade-in on Go5G Plus.
- S25 on us, or up to $800 off any S25-series model, when adding a line on Go5G Plus or Go5G Next.
- Up to $500 off with a working eligible trade-in on Go5G or most plans.
The launch promotions used 24 monthly bill credits. Android Central’s September 9 coverage referred to newer plan names such as Experience Beyond and Experience More, so preserve the exact plan name shown in the dated offer rather than assuming every customer had the same eligibility.
T-Mobile specifically advertised certain promotions accepting eligible devices in any condition. That did not mean every T-Mobile offer, every model, or Samsung’s own trade-in program accepted any condition. Review the T-Mobile promotion details and get the device eligibility in writing before sending a cracked or nonworking phone.
Boost Mobile: a service-and-phone bundle with an upgrade path
Boost Infinite Access for Galaxy was advertised at $65 per month and included unlimited talk, text, data, and a qualifying Samsung Galaxy phone. Android Central described the S25 and S25+ as included through the plan and the S25 Ultra as receiving $1,000 off, leaving a reported $299.99 device balance.
The official August 21, 2025 terms show why “free Galaxy” is an incomplete description:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- The plan used a 36-month finance agreement.
- The $65 monthly amount bundled service with a phone credit; it was not a standalone phone payment.
- Taxes were charged on the phone’s full pre-credit list price.
- Service had to be activated within 30 days.
- Usage above 30GB in a month could result in slower speeds.
- Annual upgrades required at least 12 scheduled payments, good standing, and trade-in of the current Infinite Access phone.
- Canceling, suspending service, or paying off the phone early forfeited remaining credits and could make the outstanding balance due.
Boost was therefore most interesting for a buyer who already wanted the service and values an annual upgrade—not someone comparing a $65 phone payment with a $65 wireless bill. Read the official Boost terms.
Xfinity Mobile: attractive reported credits, less independently documented
Tom’s Guide’s September 26 roundup reported:
- Base S25 free with a qualifying trade-in and Unlimited Plus.
- Up to $500 off without a trade-in.
- S25+ free with a qualifying trade-in and Unlimited Plus.
- Up to $1,000 off the S25 Ultra with a qualifying trade-in and Unlimited Plus.
Attribute these figures to the dated Tom’s Guide roundup unless you can retrieve archived Xfinity terms. They should not be treated as independently verified first-party terms without a dated Xfinity promotion page.

- 2MM thicker all-round protection, can protect the phone from 2 meters height after a fall intact, above the camera as well as the screen design.
- Adhesive metal finger ring support [you can choose to stick to Case, or separate use], 360 degree rotation + car bracket magnetic suction
- Includes 1* tempered glass screen protector, allowing you to save the cost of purchasing a screen protector
- 100% dedicated open mold design with precise hole positions
What “free” really means
Use this calculation for every carrier offer:
Total deal cost = device payments + taxes + activation fees + required plan cost + plan-change cost − genuine trade-in or gift-card value.
For an existing customer, calculate both:
- Incremental cost: what the phone and any plan upgrade add to your current bill.
- Absolute cost: the entire wireless account cost during the 24- or 36-month credit period.
A “free” S25 can be excellent if you already need the qualifying plan and would keep it for the full term. It can be expensive if you add an unnecessary line, move from a cheap plan to a premium tier, or lose credits after leaving the carrier.
For example, if a 36-month promotion is canceled after 12 months, the buyer has usually received only 12 months of credits. The remaining 24 months of promotional credits generally disappear, while the unpaid device balance may remain due. AT&T also warned that credits can take up to three billing cycles to start, so an early cancellation can be even less forgiving.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Trade-in traps and edge cases
Your current phone is still financed
A trade-in does not automatically pay off your existing carrier balance. Samsung’s terms explicitly warned that participation in its trade-in program does not excuse obligations to the previous carrier or retailer. Request a payoff quote before calculating your real savings.
Your phone is cracked or does not work
Do not generalize from one “any condition” headline. T-Mobile explicitly advertised certain damaged-device promotions. AT&T’s launch wording referred to eligible devices and, in some coverage, “any year, any condition” for qualifying offers. Samsung’s direct program had stricter functional, ownership, lock, and condition requirements.
You are on prepaid service
A postpaid carrier promotion may require credit approval, a new postpaid account, a qualifying unlimited plan, and sometimes a new line. If your prepaid service is substantially cheaper, the required plan cost can exceed the value of the phone discount.

You want to switch carriers after one year
A 36-month credit deal is usually a poor fit unless you are prepared to stay for the full term or pay the remaining balance. An unlocked Amazon, Samsung, or Best Buy purchase costs more upfront but makes switching much easier.
You upgrade every year
Boost had an explicit annual-upgrade route after at least 12 payments, good standing, and a same-series trade-in. Samsung’s New Galaxy Club offered another early-upgrade structure with a monthly membership fee and separate eligibility rules. Standard Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile bill-credit offers should not be called annual-upgrade programs merely because you can technically pay off or trade in the phone.
Should you skip the iPhone 17?
The S25 was a compelling alternative when its discount materially undercut the iPhone 17’s $799 starting price, when you preferred Android or Samsung’s software, or when your trade-in produced unusually strong Samsung or carrier credits.
The iPhone 17 was the better fit for someone who depended on iMessage, FaceTime, AirDrop, or Apple Watch integration; prioritized iPhone video or resale value; or received a better iPhone promotion from their carrier. It also offered Apple’s newest hardware, whereas the S25 launched in February 2025. The right comparison is the complete ownership cost and ecosystem fit, not the word “free.”
September 2025 deal timeline

- September 4: Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 FE in the U.S. at $649.99.
- September 9: Apple announced the iPhone 17, and Android Central updated its S25 deal roundup. Its snapshot included Amazon’s $719.99 S25, Samsung’s reported $580 Ultra trade-in value, and carrier offers from Verizon, AT&T, Boost, and T-Mobile.
- September 19: iPhone 17 retail availability began.
- September 26: Tom’s Guide published a later roundup with different Samsung pricing, including a reported $1,048 Amazon price for the S25 Ultra and a higher reported S25+ Samsung trade-in package.

- Read the trade-in rules for damage, locks, ownership, payoff status, and shipping deadlines.
- Identify the saving type: instant discount, bill credit, gift card, Samsung credit, accessory, or trade-in value.
- Confirm the credit period and when credits begin.
- Calculate taxes, activation or upgrade fees, regulatory fees, and the required plan cost.

Frequently Asked Questions
What was the best unlocked Galaxy S25 deal in September 2025?
The reported $719.99 unlocked Galaxy S25 128GB deal from Amazon was the best low-risk option because it avoided a new line, qualifying plan, and long-term bill credits. It required more upfront spending than a carrier promotion.
Were the “free” Galaxy S25 carrier deals actually free?
Usually not. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile used promotional bill credits, while Boost bundled service and device financing. Canceling service or changing to an ineligible plan could end the credits and leave the remaining device balance due.
What was the Galaxy S25 FE price in September 2025?
The S25 FE launched in the U.S. on September 4, 2025, at $649.99. It was a lower-cost S25-family option with a 6.7-inch display, 4,900mAh battery, Exynos 2400 processor, and seven years of updates, but it did not match the flagship S25 models in processor and camera hardware.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The reported $719.99 unlocked Galaxy S25 128GB was the safest September 2025 bargain for buyers who valued flexibility. AT&T’s S25 Ultra offer had the lowest reported device total for a qualifying trade-in, while Verizon and T-Mobile could make selected phones effectively $0 after credits. But those carrier deals were only cheaper if you already wanted the required plan and could remain eligible for the full credit period.
