1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe best resume checker depends on what you need to fix: matching a resume to a specific job posting, checking how its structure may parse, or improving the writing. Jobscan focuses on job-description comparison; Resume Worded offers broader resume-quality checks and a parse simulation. Neither service’s score is a universal ATS score or a promise of an interview.
Which resume checker fits your task?
| Tool | Best suited to | What it says it checks |
|---|---|---|
| Jobscan | Comparing a resume with a specific job posting | Match rate, missing keywords, formatting flags, and section analysis; the company says it checks more than 30 aspects, including file type, headings, skills, job titles, and content. Jobscan’s resume scanner |
| Resume Worded | General resume-quality feedback and a look at how uploaded content is parsed | Its Score My Resume page describes ATS compatibility and recruiter-facing feedback; its review page describes more than 30 checks and a parse simulation. These are the vendor’s descriptions of its service. Score My Resume and Resume review |
| Human review | Discussing narrative, positioning, or job-search strategy with a person | Jobscan describes an AI-powered resume review for keywords, formatting issues, and tailoring opportunities. No particular independent human-review provider or outcome claim is established here. Jobscan resume review |
These options address different problems, so one is not automatically better than the others. For a particular application, start with a checker that compares your document to the actual posting. For a broader critique, look for feedback on clarity, sections, evidence of results, or how the file’s contents are extracted.
What a resume checker score does—and does not—tell you
A score is the tool’s own diagnostic, not a standardized measure shared across employers or resume checkers. It can help you see whether your resume appears to include terms from a target posting or meets a tool’s formatting criteria, but it cannot establish how an employer’s system will rank your application.
Jobscan says its match rate is a visualization tool and that an employer’s ATS does not use that match rate to score a resume. Its suggestion of a 75% or higher match is Jobscan’s recommendation, not an industry-wide threshold. Treat the number as a prompt to inspect the details, not a target to pursue at the expense of accuracy. Jobscan’s explanation
#1 Best Overall
In Jobscan’s words: “Keep in mind, when you submit your resume to a job, the ATS doesn’t score your resume.” That is the vendor’s guidance on interpreting its scanner; it should not be stretched into a claim about every ATS or every feature employers configure.
How to choose and use one
- Choose the task first. For job-specific matching, use the posting and your resume in a comparison tool. For structure, look for formatting checks or a parse preview. For writing, prioritize specific feedback on clarity, sections, and results.
- Check what the report actually shows. Review missing terms, formatting flags, section feedback, or extracted text rather than relying on a headline score alone.
- Verify the current plan and limits. Free reports, paid functions, and product terms can change. Check the vendor’s current pages before uploading a file or paying; current pricing is not established here. Resume Worded’s Score My Resume page
- Review each suggestion yourself. Accept changes only when they improve the resume and remain true to your experience. Do not add skills, qualifications, or achievements just to raise a score.
- Re-check against the posting. After editing, compare the final version with the job description and make sure its content remains readable and accurate. Jobscan itself advises users to treat its rate as a visualization and re-check the resume against the posting. Jobscan’s resume scanner
What the available comparisons cannot establish
Vendor pages describe their own features, but the information available here does not establish independent comparative performance or a universal ATS scoring standard. It also does not establish current prices or which tool produces better hiring outcomes. Compare the tools by the feedback they expose and whether that feedback helps with your actual application—not by assuming one score predicts an employer’s decision.
