Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a substantial oven-ready dinner, start with Costco’s rotisserie chicken enchilada; for a large comfort-food meal, consider the chicken pot pie. The street taco kit and garlic-seasoned wings suit lower-prep, more flexible meals, while chicken Alfredo and ravioli lasagna are pasta-bake options. “Best” depends on your appetite, preferences, household size, local stock and price: the picks below draw on a 2025 taste test, 2026 recommendations and retailer listings—not one standardized comparison of every Costco prepared meal.
Which Costco premade meal should you choose?
Use the table as a shortlist, not a universal ranking. The enchilada has the clearest taste-test support; the other picks are recommendations or practical options described by the cited publications and Costco listings.
| Meal | Best fit | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Rotisserie chicken enchilada | A hearty oven-ready dinner | Costco SameDay describes rotisserie chicken, black and pinto beans, cheddar, cilantro-chipotle sauce and tri-colored peppers. Good Housekeeping’s May 2025 taste panel responded most positively to this item among the meals it tested, though one taster found the texture mushy. View the Costco SameDay listing · Read Good Housekeeping’s taste test. |
| Chicken pot pie | A large comfort-food meal | Costco SameDay describes an all-white-meat Kirkland Signature pie, ready to bake. The Kitchn recommends it and reports that these pies typically weigh 5–6 pounds. View the Costco SameDay listing · Read The Kitchn’s recommendations. |
| Chicken street taco kit | A customizable, assemble-at-the-table dinner | The Kitchn describes seasoned chicken, cheese, shredded cabbage, corn tortillas and salsa; its author says the kit made about 12 full tacos and comfortably fed four. That serving experience is not a guaranteed yield for every package. Read The Kitchn’s recommendation. |
| Garlic-seasoned party wing tray | A shared meal or game-day spread | The Kitchn recommends the precooked wings and suggests reheating in an oven or air fryer for crispness. Treat them as a convenient shared option, not necessarily a complete dinner on their own. Read The Kitchn’s recommendation. |
| Chicken Alfredo with penne | A creamy pasta bake | Costco SameDay lists chicken breast meat, fresh Alfredo sauce and shredded Parmesan in an oven-ready tray. The sources do not establish a comparative taste-test result for it. View the Costco SameDay listing. |
| Ravioli lasagna | A substantial pasta bake with Bolognese sauce | Costco SameDay lists a ravioli lasagna with beef-and-pork Bolognese. The available sources do not establish a comparative taste ranking. View the Costco SameDay listing. |
| Shepherd’s pie | A ready-to-bake alternative for pie fans | Costco SameDay lists a Kirkland Signature version and states 230 calories per serving, using the standard 2,000-calorie daily reference. Confirm the current package label; the listing showed the item out of stock when checked. View the Costco SameDay listing. |
What does the taste-test evidence support?
Good Housekeeping’s May 30, 2025 test gives the rotisserie chicken enchilada the strongest support as a flavor pick among its tested Costco prepared meals. Tasters liked its smoky, saucy flavor and cheese, but the panel was not unanimous about the texture. That result is useful if you are choosing among the meals in that test; it does not establish that the enchilada beats every prepared meal Costco sells.
Good Housekeeping described its tested tray as about 3.9 pounds, or roughly ten six-ounce servings, and estimated the cost at $2.73 per serving at the time of its test. Those are historical test figures—not a current Costco price, package size or guaranteed serving count. See the test details.

How to pick the right meal for your household
- Match the flavor and format: Choose enchiladas if you want a saucy, smoky bake; tacos if you prefer to assemble your own plates; wings for a shared spread; or Alfredo and ravioli lasagna for pasta.
- Check the package size against your plans: Costco trays can be large. Estimate portions realistically and consider whether leftovers will be eaten before buying.
- Use the package directions: Heating time and method can vary by item and may change with the product. Follow the instructions on the package you bring home rather than relying on another shopper’s timing.
- Compare the local price and stock: Per-pound and per-serving figures cited in older articles are not current price quotes. SameDay weights and prices may be estimates, and availability depends on location.
- Check nutrition for your own needs: The sources do not provide a comparable nutrition dataset across these meals. Read the current label rather than assuming a prepared meal is healthy or suitable for a particular diet.
Availability and prices vary by location
Costco’s prepared-food catalog includes different kinds of products, and an item shown for delivery or online may not be available at a nearby warehouse. Costco’s category page distinguishes delivery, warehouse and online-only items; availability shown for one location is not proof of nationwide stock. Check Costco’s Prepared Meals & Foods category and confirm your local options before planning a dinner around a specific tray.

Treat those figures as historical context and check the price at your store or in the current listing.

Costco’s lineup can also include items such as enchilada bakes, stuffed peppers and sausage-and-pasta meals, according to Martha Stewart’s September 10, 2026 roundup. That supports the idea that the prepared-food section offers multiple formats and heating needs; it is not a controlled ranking of the full catalog. See Martha Stewart’s roundup.
