Choose thinkorswim paperMoney for advanced options, futures, forex, and charting; TradingView for chart-led practice; or Interactive Brokers if you need global markets and a professional multi-asset platform. These are different tools, not interchangeable versions of the same simulator: the best fit depends on what you want to trade and which platform you may eventually use live.
This comparison is U.S.-focused and reflects product information available as of August 18, 2026. Android availability, instrument access, and market-data conditions can vary by country, account, and asset. A simulator can teach order mechanics, but it cannot guarantee live-like fills or reproduce the financial pressure of risking real money.

| TradingView Paper Trading | Charting and technical-analysis practice | Paper trading on Android and iOS; chart-centered workflow | Not stated on the cited product page | TradingView says its simulator is available to users without fees. Data conditions vary by instrument. | Does not necessarily reproduce a broker’s order ticket, routing, or account rules. |

| eToro Virtual Portfolio | Social and virtual-portfolio-style practice | Virtual portfolio; U.S. product availability and asset lineup require checking. | Not stated in the cited source | Fees and available assets vary; see eToro’s fee information. | Not a substitute for broad futures access or conventional broker-style options tools. |

Webull paperTrade combines a mobile-first interface with a wide set of simulated order and strategy tools. That breadth makes it useful for someone learning more than basic stock orders, but it can feel technical to a first-time trader. Webull also advertises no pattern-day-trader restrictions in paperTrade; that is a simulator feature, not an exemption from live brokerage or regulatory rules. Treat its advertised real-time data as a data feature, not proof that a simulated order will fill like a live order.
thinkorswim paperMoney: best for advanced strategies
Schwab’s paperMoney runs in thinkorswim and supports simulated equities, options, futures, and forex. Schwab says it uses real-time market data and gives users $100,000 in virtual buying power; the simulator is free for Schwab clients. Its strategy-analysis and profit-and-loss tools suit users who want to evaluate complex trades in a professional platform. Details are on Schwab’s paperMoney page.
The trade-off is complexity. It is a better fit if you intend to learn thinkorswim or trade the supported markets than if you simply want a minimal app to practice buying a share. The virtual balance is a starting setting, not a recommended account size; use a practice balance closer to the capital you could realistically deploy.

TradingView: best for charting and technical analysis
TradingView’s paper-trading mode is available on Android and iOS and is presented as a no-fee feature for TradingView users. Its strength is a chart-centered workflow, with indicators, screeners, and alerts available across its broader platform; which features are available can depend on account tier and instrument. TradingView documents its simulator at Paper Trading main functionality.
Use it to practice reading charts and placing simulated trades, but do not assume its fills or order workflow exactly match a specific broker. If your goal is to learn a broker’s live order ticket, practice in that broker’s own simulator when available.
Interactive Brokers: best for global and multi-asset practice
Comparative coverage identifies paper trading through IBKR Mobile and Interactive Brokers’ professional platforms, with access to a broad range of asset classes and international markets. Its official paper-trading page describes the program; availability, market-data costs, and product permissions vary by jurisdiction and account type.

IBKR is powerful but unnecessarily dense if you are learning only basic stock orders. Its live offering also involves more than headline commission rates: product permissions, exchange charges, and market-data subscriptions may matter. Consult its commissions and market-data information before treating a simulated workflow as a complete picture of live costs.
Power E*TRADE: consider it for options-focused practice
Current comparative coverage points to Power E*TRADE, rather than automatically to the standard E*TRADE app, as the options-oriented paper-trading product. It may suit users who want options-analysis tools and continuity with that platform, but verify current Android availability and account requirements before relying on it. E*TRADE’s official pages cover investing products and pricing and rates; they do not establish every simulator detail.
Moomoo, eToro, and TradeStation: narrower fits
- Moomoo advertises mobile, desktop, and web paper trading with virtual funds and live-market-data positioning. Check its U.S. paper-trading page for current product details and confirm that the instruments and data you need are available in your jurisdiction.
- eToro may appeal if you want a social or virtual-portfolio-oriented environment. U.S. asset availability and fees need careful checking; its Virtual Portfolio and fees page provide product-specific information.
- TradeStation is oriented toward simulated trading and more advanced strategy or automation workflows. See its simulated-trading page and pricing page; it is a poor fit if you want a simple beginner simulator.
Choose by the market and skill you want to practice
| Your priority | Strong candidate | Why it fits | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Android stock and options practice | Webull paperTrade | Mobile-first workflow and a broad advertised set of orders and multi-leg options. | Complex interface; simulated fills and rules are not live conditions. |
| Advanced options, futures, or forex | thinkorswim paperMoney | Supports those markets and provides strategy-analysis tools. | Requires a Schwab client relationship and learning thinkorswim. |
| Chart reading and technical analysis | TradingView | Paper trades from a chart-centered Android workflow. | Not necessarily a replica of your broker’s execution workflow. |
| Global markets and multiple asset classes | Interactive Brokers | Comparative coverage identifies broad international and multi-asset support. | Markets, permissions, data fees, and Android workflow depend on account and jurisdiction. |
| Options in an options-oriented interface | Power E*TRADE | Comparative coverage identifies options tools in the relevant product. | Confirm current Android access and account requirements. |
| Mobile, web, and desktop virtual portfolios | Moomoo | Vendor advertises all three access modes. | Verify U.S. availability, supported instruments, and data conditions. |
For crypto practice, IBKR is the strongest broad multi-asset candidate identified in comparative coverage, while Webull and TradingView may suit users who want crypto-related simulation or chart-led practice. The precise crypto instruments and Android workflow are not established here; confirm both in the provider’s current product documentation. Do not assume that a crypto chart, crypto-linked product, spot coin, and crypto future are the same thing.

For beginners, the simplest useful choice is usually the platform whose order workflow you intend to learn. Webull is a broad mobile starting point if its interface is comfortable; TradingView is a natural chart-first option; thinkorswim is more educational for advanced tools but has a steeper learning curve. Fidelity and Robinhood are not included as conventional simulator recommendations because cited comparative coverage says they do not offer conventional paper trading; check current official product information for changes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What paper trading can—and cannot—teach
Paper trading means buying and selling with virtual rather than real money. It is useful for learning an app’s quote screen and order ticket, rehearsing order types, and testing a plan against current market conditions without risking capital. Simulated profits cannot be withdrawn, and simulated losses do not have the emotional force of losing real money.
Do not confuse four different activities:
- Paper trading is simulated trading, often using current or live market conditions.
- Backtesting evaluates rules against historical data.
- Replay lets you revisit historical price action as though it were unfolding.
- Demo trading is a broader label that can include simulated forex, crypto, or CFD environments.
A simulator may show real-time quotes and still fail to reproduce live execution. Fills can differ because of bid-ask spreads, liquidity, partial fills, queue position, latency, market halts, news volatility, broker routing, and whether data for a particular instrument or exchange is delayed. Options add changing implied volatility, time decay, wide spreads, exercise, assignment, and expiration. A chart touching a limit price does not prove a live order would have filled.

Mobile access is convenient for monitoring, but a small screen can hide a spread, strike, expiration, quantity, or order type. Review the order preview carefully, make sure you are in the simulated account, and avoid placing live orders while distracted. A polished simulator cannot teach taxes, actual capital constraints, broker outages, or the full consequences of margin use.
How to start paper trading on Android
Exact labels vary by app version, so use the provider’s current help and account screens rather than relying on a universal menu path.
- Install the official app. Use the vendor’s official download page or its Google Play listing. Webull’s paperTrade page links to Google Play; TradingView confirms Android paper-trading support in its support documentation.
- Create or sign in to the required account. Requirements differ. Schwab says paperMoney is free for Schwab clients; TradingView says its simulator is available to TradingView users without fees. Do not assume every simulator permits anonymous use or requires no identity checks.
- Select the simulation mode. Look for the app’s paper, virtual, demo, or simulated-trading account. Confirm that the account is not live before entering an order.
- Set a realistic practice balance. If the platform allows it, choose an amount close to what you could actually invest. Avoid treating a large default virtual balance as a target.
- Build a focused watchlist. Start with a few liquid instruments you understand, rather than tracking every market at once.
- Learn the screen before trading. Identify the quote, chart, order ticket, positions, and activity or order-history views. Check whether data is delayed for each instrument.
- Practice basic orders. Place a small simulated market order and a limit order, then learn how a stop or stop-limit behaves. Read the order preview, including direction, quantity, price, and time-in-force.
- Write down a plan before entry. Record the reason for the trade, size, planned stop, target, and exit conditions. Do not move the rules after seeing the result.
- Review a meaningful sample. Test the plan in different market conditions and include estimated costs and adverse fills; a few profitable trades do not establish an edge.
- Reduce size before going live. Paper success is not proof of live performance. If you eventually trade real money, begin substantially smaller than the virtual position size and learn the live account’s rules.
Keep a trade journal, not just a win-rate tally
A journal shows whether results came from a repeatable plan or a few lucky outcomes. Record:
- Date and time; symbol; and long or short direction.
- Entry, exit, position size, planned stop, and target.
- Setup or thesis and the market conditions at the time.
- Fill assumptions, including estimated spread, commissions, and slippage.
- Maximum favorable and adverse excursion, if your platform or review process supports them.
- Rule violations, impulse decisions, and emotional state.
- Result in dollars and percentage, plus a screenshot of the setup.
Review average gain, average loss, drawdown, and rule adherence along with win rate. A strategy can win often and still lose overall when its average losses outweigh its average gains.
Is paper trading free, and do you need a brokerage account?
The simulator itself is often free, but access rules differ. Schwab says paperMoney is free for Schwab clients; TradingView says its paper-trading simulator is available without fees. Those statements do not mean every platform offers anonymous access or that all data and chart features are free. Webull advertises unlimited virtual funds, but that does not establish that every live service or market-data feature is free.
When you move to live trading, check the provider’s current fee schedule for the products and account you plan to use. Possible costs include paid real-time data, premium charting, commissions or regulatory and exchange fees, options-contract fees, margin interest, and crypto spreads or transaction charges. Simulated trading does not model every live fee or account restriction. For examples of official information, see Webull pricing, Schwab pricing, TradingView plans, and E*TRADE pricing and rates.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes that make simulated results misleading
- Using an unrealistic balance or oversized positions. A large virtual account can make a risky strategy look practical when it would not fit your real capital.
- Resetting after every loss. Resetting erases evidence of how a strategy handles drawdown. Keep a record, and only restart when deliberately beginning a separately labeled test.
- Assuming a fill because a chart touched a price. Spreads, liquidity, order queues, and fast markets can all change whether an order fills.
- Ignoring options mechanics. Track implied volatility, time decay, contract multipliers, liquidity, exercise, assignment, expiration, and buying-power changes—not just whether the underlying moved in your favor.
- Confusing simulator settings with live rules. Webull’s advertised lack of pattern-day-trader restrictions applies to paperTrade, not as evidence of a live-account exemption. Live rules depend on the broker, account, product, and applicable regulation.
- Trading from a phone without checking the ticket. Confirm account mode, symbol, quantity, order type, option strike and expiry, and estimated price before submitting any order.
