There is no evidence-backed “top five” list of new meme coins from December 2024 that can be called the best investments or shown to have delivered high returns. Period articles named different tokens, used promotional selections, and did not provide comparable, independently verified performance data. This is therefore a historical account—not a current buy list or a forecast.
Why a December 2024 “top five” cannot be verified
“Best” depends on a defined method: the launch-date cutoff, the date used to compare performance, and evidence about trading access, liquidity, and contract identity. The reviewed period coverage does not establish a reproducible set of five eligible tokens or a comparable return record for them. Sector-wide market activity cannot fill that gap.
For context, CoinGecko’s 2025 report put total memecoin market capitalization at $150.6 billion in December 2024. It reported average daily trading volume of $1.1 billion in 2023 and $9.7 billion in 2024, with a daily peak of $87.4 billion after Robinhood and Coinbase announced WIF and PEPE listings. Those are aggregate market figures, not returns earned by holders of any particular coin. CoinGecko’s report

MANA, PEPU, and ARC
A December 13, 2024 BeInCrypto article covered MANA (Meme Anarchic Numismatic Asset), PEPU (Pepe Unchained), and ARC (AI Rig Complex), reporting contemporaneous holder, transaction, capitalization, and volume figures. These were dated snapshots. Its short-term rebound language was a prediction at the time, not evidence of what subsequently happened. BeInCrypto’s December 13 article

STARS, WEPE, and SLAP
A separate Bitcoinist article named Crypto All-Stars (STARS), Wall Street Pepe (WEPE), and Catslap (SLAP), alongside Shiba Inu. The page labels itself a paid release and disclaims accuracy and timeliness, so its selections are not an independent ranking. Its presale, staking, price, fundraising, liquidity, and product claims should not be treated as verified investment facts. Bitcoinist’s December 2024 release
Shiba Inu (SHIB)
Bitcoinist described SHIB as a legacy leader, not a newly launched December 2024 coin. Including it in a list of new launches would confuse an established token with a period newcomer.

Super Meme
Super Meme’s own release says its mainnet launched on December 16, 2024, followed by a token generation event on December 17. That establishes what the project announced and when; it does not independently verify its refund mechanisms, staking revenue sharing, safety claims, or value proposition. What the 2024 market figures do—and do not—say
The market was unusually active, but activity is not the same as investor profit. CoinGecko’s aggregate capitalization and volume figures describe the memecoin sector as a whole. They do not show whether an individual buyer made money, account for purchase timing or fees, or establish how any of the tokens above performed over a comparable period.

The reviewed coverage does not supply a trustworthy, comparable five-token return statistic. It also does not establish a complete historical performance series or the current status of every named token. A return claim would require token-specific prices and a clear start and end date, along with a method that accounts for liquidity and the ability to trade at those prices.
How to evaluate a historical meme-coin ranking
A defensible comparison needs a fixed as-of date and the same checks for every candidate. The sources reviewed here do not provide comparable verified values across five tokens on these measures, so no scores or winners can be inferred.
Rank #4
- Launch and chain: Confirm the launch date and blockchain from reliable records rather than relying only on a promotional article.
- Contract identity: Compare the contract address with official project channels. A name or ticker alone does not prove that a token is authentic.
- Trading access and liquidity: Establish which venues actually traded the token on the comparison date and whether there was enough liquidity to enter or exit near quoted prices.
- Ownership and supply: Examine holder concentration, token allocation, and scheduled unlocks; concentrated ownership or upcoming supply can affect the risks a buyer faces.
- Utility and revenue: Separate independently verified functionality or revenue from claims made by the project or a paid promotion.
- Drawdowns and returns: Compare price history over identical dates and include the size of declines, not just a short-lived gain or a peak price.
Legal context and risk
In a staff statement, the SEC Division of Corporation Finance said: “That is, the value of meme coins is derived from speculative trading and the collective sentiment of the market, like a collectible.” The statement describes the staff’s view; it is not a rule or binding Commission action, and it does not determine the status of every token or offering. The staff says specific offerings require fact-specific analysis, and fraud may remain actionable under other laws. SEC Division of Corporation Finance staff statement
Meme coins can lose most or all of their value, and crypto trading can result in a total loss. A dated list, a project announcement, or a surge in sector-wide trading does not establish that a token is safe, useful, or likely to rise. The historical material here is not personalized investment advice.
