The best Ibanez under $500 for your needs depends less on a “shred” label than on the bridge and pickup layout you want. Among three models with observed US listings below the ceiling, the GRG121DX and GRG121SP pair 24 frets with a fixed F106 bridge, while the GRX70QA has 22 frets, an H-S-H pickup layout, and a basic T106 tremolo. Retailer results on October 8, 2026, showed prices from about $219.99 to $349.99; prices and stock can change.

Ibanez GIO GRG121SP GRG Roasted Maple neck, poplar body, 24 frets, F106 fixed bridge $349.99 in retailer results on October 8, 2026 A higher-priced fixed-bridge alternative in those listings
Ibanez GIO GRX70QA 22 frets, Infinity H-S-H pickups, T106 tremolo About $219.99–$229.99 in retailer results on October 8, 2026 The lowest observed price and the tremolo-equipped option

These are retailer listing snapshots for US shoppers, not manufacturer MSRPs or guaranteed current prices. See Sweetwater’s Ibanez listings and the B&H comparison listing for the retailer evidence. Confirm the exact model suffix, color, price, and stock before buying.

Which bridge should you choose?

Fixed F106 bridge: GRG121DX and GRG121SP

The two GRG models listed here use an F106 fixed bridge. If you want a guitar without a tremolo arm and prefer a simpler bridge arrangement, these are the relevant options in this shortlist. The shared bridge type does not establish how either individual guitar will stay in tune, feel, or perform; setup and condition matter, so try the instrument when possible.

T106 tremolo: GRX70QA

The GRX70QA has a T106 tremolo. It is a basic tremolo, not a locking tremolo, and the available specifications do not establish dive-bomb stability or performance under aggressive use. If using a tremolo is important to you, test how the specific guitar behaves with your intended playing rather than assuming the bridge will meet a particular technique’s demands. A tremolo is a preference, not a requirement for playing shred-oriented music.

How the GRG121DX and GRG121SP differ

Both models have 24 frets and an F106 fixed bridge, so the listed differences are more useful to compare than their appearance alone. Ibanez lists the GRG121SP with a GRG Roasted Maple neck and poplar body; the GRG121DX listing identifies IBZ-6 humbuckers. Those details do not amount to a controlled comparison of tone, comfort, or build quality.

The observed retailer results put the GRG121SP $80 above the GRG121DX. That price gap does not prove the SP sounds or plays better. Compare the precise model specifications, then evaluate neck feel, fret finish, setup, and sound on the actual guitar if you can.

Rank #2
Ibanez GIO Series GRX70QA - Transparent Emerald Burst
  • Fast, slim Maple neck
  • Beautiful quilted Maple art grain top
  • High output Infinity R pickups

Is the GRX70QA a good budget choice?

Its listed combination is distinct: 22 frets, Infinity H-S-H pickups, and a T106 tremolo, with retailer results showing the lowest price among these three models. That makes it the shortlist’s tremolo-equipped choice, not a proven winner in sound or playability. The official Ibanez page is for the Asia product listing, so check the specifications and suffix on the exact regional model offered by a US seller.

For comparison, Ibanez also lists the GIO GRX20Z with 22 frets, two Infinity R humbuckers, and a T106 tremolo. No current price was confirmed for it in the retailer results cited here, so verify a live listing before treating it as an under-$500 option.

Budget for the whole setup, not only the guitar

A Sweetwater result displayed the GRG121DX bundled with an Orange Crush 12 amp for $429. That was one retailer listing at the time of the October 8, 2026 price snapshot, not a guaranteed current offer or a broader package-value comparison. Check what the specific bundle includes and whether it remains available before counting on it to cover your setup.

What to check before buying

  • Confirm the exact model and region. Product pages and retailer results can refer to different regional variants or suffixes. Match the listing to the guitar being sold.
  • Choose bridge type by use. The GRG121DX and GRG121SP have a fixed F106 bridge; the GRX70QA has a T106 tremolo. Do not assume the tremolo is locking.
  • Try feel and setup where possible. Published specifications do not establish neck comfort, fretwork, tuning stability, or setup quality for a particular instrument.
  • Check the complete price. Recheck current price, availability, and any bundle contents with the seller; the figures above are dated listing observations.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
