Best Executive Coaching Certification Programs: Compare ICF Pathways and Options

An executive coaching program certificate is not the same as an ICF credential. Compare ACC and PCC pathways, requirements, and four program examples before choosing training.

The right executive coaching program depends first on the credential you want—not the school’s certificate label. A provider may award a program certificate, but only the International Coaching Federation (ICF) awards ICF credentials such as ACC and PCC, after candidates meet the applicable education, coaching-hour, and assessment requirements. The programs below are examples of different pathways, not a proven ranking: available sources do not establish comparative graduate outcomes or satisfaction.

What “executive coaching certification” can mean

“Certification” is used for two different outcomes. A training provider can issue its own certificate for completing a course. Separately, ICF awards professional credentials: Associate Certified Coach (ACC) and Professional Certified Coach (PCC). Completing a school’s course does not by itself make a graduate an ICF-credentialed coach. For example, Claristrat says its Professional Certificate documents education but is not an ACC; graduates still need qualifying client hours, an ICF application, and the exam. Claristrat Institute

ICF accredits coach education whose curriculum aligns with its definition of coaching, Core Competencies, and Code of Ethics. Its free Education Search Service lets prospective students search programs. ICF says it cannot recommend a specific provider and describes choosing a program as a matter of individual preferences and goals. Accreditation is a useful check on an education pathway, not an independent quality ranking.

Choose the credential pathway before comparing schools

ICF describes Level 1 as foundational education and a pathway to ACC, with 60 or more learning hours. Level 2 offers broader and deeper education and is a pathway to PCC, with 125 or more hours. The education hours are only part of the requirements: candidates also need coaching experience and must pass the ICF Credentialing Exam. ICF credential pathways

ACC Level 1/2 route Complete the applicable program; 100 or more coaching hours, at least 75 paid, with at least 8 clients. At least 25 hours must fall within the 18 months before applying. Pass the ACC exam. ICF lists an estimated four-week review and an application fee of $175 for members or $325 for non-members.
ACC portfolio route 60 or more hours of accredited or non-accredited coaching education; non-accredited education requires curriculum documentation. Experience requirement is 100 or more hours, at least 75 paid, with at least 8 clients, including 25 hours in the preceding 18 months. Pass the ACC exam. ICF lists an estimated 14-week review and fees of $475 for members or $625 for non-members.
PCC Level 2 route Complete a Level 2 program; 500 or more coaching hours, at least 450 paid, with at least 25 clients. At least 50 hours must fall within the 18 months before applying. Mentor coaching and performance evaluation are completed in the program. Pass the ICF Credentialing Exam. ICF lists an estimated four-week review and fees of $375 for members or $525 for non-members.
PCC portfolio route 125 or more education hours; 10 hours of mentor coaching over at least three months, including 3 one-on-one hours; two recorded coaching sessions with transcripts; and 500 or more coaching hours, at least 450 paid, with at least 25 clients, including 50 hours in the preceding 18 months. Pass the ICF Credentialing Exam. ICF lists an estimated 18-week review and fees of $750 for members or $900 for non-members.

These fees and review estimates are the amounts and estimates on ICF’s current application page when checked in 2026; they are separate from school tuition and can change. Check the applicable route before budgeting or applying. ICF credential requirements and application fees

Program examples: compare what each pathway actually offers

This shortlist shows distinct formats and outcomes rather than a ranked “best” list. ICF directory listings establish education-level details, while provider pages supply some tuition and schedule information. A blank or unstated item is not evidence that a program lacks that feature; it means the cited information does not establish it.

Program and ICF status Hours and practice Format, tuition, entry, and timing What remains after the course
Claristrat Institute — Professional Certificate
ACC / Level 1 pathway as described by the provider; verify the precise cohort listing and status in ICF’s directory.
110 total hours: 60 live, 40 self-paced educational, and 10 mentor-coaching hours. Provider describes observed practice with written feedback, four private coaching sessions, Hogan assessments and debrief, practice assets, and sales guidance. Fully online cohort; 12-week core. Published tuition is $8,000 USD or five monthly payments of $1,600. The provider page checked in 2026 listed an October 20, 2026 start and October 12 application cutoff; confirm current availability and price directly. Entry prerequisites: not stated on the cited page. The course does not award ACC. Candidates still need the ACC experience hours, ICF application, and exam.
College of Executive Coaching — Advanced Certified Personal and Executive Coach
ICF Education Search Service lists it as Level 2; renewal date shown is January 31, 2027.
374 program hours. The directory describes business/organizations, executive, and leadership specialties. Specific mentor-coaching hours, observed practice, and evaluation details: not stated in the cited listing. Virtual learning; directory says it serves professionals worldwide and describes graduate-degree-level entry. Current tuition and next cohort: not stated in the cited directory record. For the PCC pathway, confirm that the program and intended cohort meet current Level 2 requirements, including program mentor coaching and performance evaluation. PCC client hours and the ICF exam and application remain applicable.
Royal Roads University — Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching
ICF directory description says graduates receive 125 PCC learning hours and a Certified Executive Coach designation.
125 PCC learning hours. Specific mentor-coaching hours, observed practice, and evaluation details: not stated in the inspected listing. University-based graduate certificate. The listing targets business professionals with leadership and management experience who want to coach or foster a coaching culture in their organizations. Current tuition, schedule, and next cohort: not stated in the inspected record. The provider’s designation and learning hours are not the ICF PCC credential itself. Candidates need to meet ICF’s PCC experience and assessment requirements.
HEC Paris — Foundations of Global Executive Coaching
Entry certificate; the cited page does not establish it as an ICF Level 1 or Level 2 pathway.
12-day curriculum covers coaching conversations, listening and questioning, contracting, ethics, ICF/EMCC competencies, cultural assumptions, and psychological perspectives. Mentor-coaching hours and observed performance evaluation: not stated. Provider page checked in 2026 listed English delivery online and in class at Paris/Jouy-en-Josas, a €14,000 fee, and an October 19, 2026 start. Confirm current dates and fees directly. Entry requirements: not stated on the cited page. Do not treat this entry certificate alone as an ICF credential or a complete PCC pathway. Confirm any separate education and credential requirements for the outcome you want.

Program facts and published prices can change. Check the ICF directory listing for the exact program and level, including renewal status for your cohort, then confirm tuition, schedule, and included services with the provider. The College of Executive Coaching listing’s stated renewal date is January 31, 2027, so verify status for cohorts starting after that date.

How to compare programs without mistaking hours for value

Hours are not interchangeable. A 12-day entry certificate, a 12-week ACC education program, and a 374-hour Level 2 program differ in credential target, scope, and remaining requirements. Before paying a deposit, ask each provider for written answers to these questions:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Which exact ICF education level applies to the cohort, and what is its current directory and renewal status?
  • How many hours are coach-specific education, and how many are mentor coaching? What does the provider count in each category?
  • How much live practice is included? How many recorded or observed sessions receive individual feedback, and who evaluates them?
  • Does the course include the mentor coaching and performance evaluation required for the intended ICF route?
  • What tuition excludes—such as application fees, assessments, travel, or additional mentoring—and what payment terms apply?
  • What entry prerequisites, weekly workload, cohort dates, and attendance rules apply?
  • After graduation, what client-hour requirement, exam, and ICF application steps remain?

Compare the full cost and time to the credential you want, not just course tuition or advertised duration. Even after a course ends, the required client hours can make the credential timeline substantially longer.

Sources and scope

The program examples rely on ICF’s directory and application information and the providers’ published pages. They are not a comprehensive worldwide catalog, and the available records do not establish comparative graduate outcomes, satisfaction, earnings, or client results.
