A rolling briefcase can spare your shoulder on a commute or business trip, but the right choice depends on more than a “briefcase” label. Check the laptop compartment, full exterior dimensions, weight and how you will move the bag. The examples below are manufacturer-listed options, not independently tested winners.
What to check before buying a rolling briefcase
Laptop fit
Match the bag’s stated laptop limit to your device’s actual dimensions, including its thickness and any protective case. Briggs & Riley lists its @work Medium Spinner Brief for laptops up to 14 inches; a screen-size label alone does not guarantee that every device of that size will fit.
Full size, weight and capacity
Wheels and handles count toward the space a bag occupies. Briggs & Riley lists the @work brief’s exterior dimensions, including wheels and handle, as 15 × 15 × 9.75 inches, its weight as 8 pounds and its capacity as 23.3 liters. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. Check your operating airline’s current baggage rules before traveling; no bag can be promised to meet every carrier’s limits.
How you will move it
A spinner briefcase rolls on its own wheels. A traditional briefcase with a trolley strap instead rides on top of separate rolling luggage. Consider your usual route: stairs, crowded platforms and short walks can make carrying options and weight as important as wheels.

Organization, laptop protection and warranty
Compare compartment layout, handles and shoulder straps, and any stated laptop-protection feature. Warranty language is product- and brand-specific: read the current terms for the exact model rather than assuming every bag from a manufacturer has identical coverage.
