- Measure height and footprint. Check ceiling clearance, including the tree topper, and allow room for the stand and branches. Tree height alone does not show how wide it is.
- Match the lighting. Decide whether you want a pre-lit or unlit tree, and check light type, color choices and whether the lights can be changed or replaced. The $49.98 Festive Pine listing, for example, specified color-changing micro fairy lights.
- Check fullness and setup. Tip count can help describe branch density, but it is not a complete measure of appearance. Look for assembly instructions and storage dimensions before buying.
- Calculate delivered cost. Add shipping and any applicable charges, then compare the final price for trees of similar size and configuration.
- Read the terms. Confirm the return window, warranty coverage and who handles return shipping. Those terms can change the value of a low-priced tree.
What the discount claims do—and don’t—tell you
National Tree Company’s Black Friday page displays “up to 70% off” Christmas trees. The page was checked on October 5, 2026, but that displayed maximum does not establish that every tree receives that discount or that the same offer applied in 2025. For 2025, the specific examples provide more useful price context than a broad maximum: one listed Home Depot tree cost $49.98, another $199, and Tom’s Guide reported a separate sale starting at $25. These are different products and reporting dates, so they do not establish a single typical market price or prove that one was the best value for every home.
