How many Bell employees were laid off?
The Canadian Press reported on November 20, 2025, that BCE confirmed approximately 650 Bell manager positions and around 40 Bell Media roles were affected—nearly 700 positions combined. BCE said the reductions represented less than 2% of Bell’s workforce and less than 1% of Bell Media’s team. The Canadian Press report did not provide a roster of affected workers or a complete list of job titles.
The distinction matters: the reported total is an approximate count of positions. It should not be read as an exact count of named individuals or as a breakdown of every affected role.
Which jobs were affected?
The reported Bell positions were non-unionized management jobs. BCE said no unionized employees had been laid off in this round, and Bell Media said its affected roles were predominantly in corporate departments, according to The Canadian Press.

Why did Bell cut the positions?
BCE spokesperson Katherine Cuplinskas said the change was made “to better align our team structure with our growth plan.” BCE’s October 14, 2025 Investor Day release described a three-year strategy focused on fibre, wireless, AI-powered enterprise solutions and digital media. The release also set a company-wide target of $1.5 billion in cost savings by 2028. That figure is BCE’s projection; it does not establish that the November layoffs themselves produced those savings. Did Bell lay off employees before Christmas?
Yes. The announcement came in November, shortly before the winter holidays, as reported by NOW Toronto on November 21, 2025. “Christmas gift” is a pointed framing of that timing, not a quote or characterization from Bell.

NOW Toronto quoted Olivia Cicchini, an employment relations expert at Peninsula Canada, saying holiday-season layoffs can be especially damaging to morale and can create anxiety and uncertainty among remaining employees. That is her expert view about potential workplace effects, not a measured finding about Bell staff.
How does this compare with Bell’s earlier workforce actions?
The November reduction followed several earlier actions reported by The Canadian Press. Their nature and timing differ, so they should not be combined into a single count of confirmed layoffs:
