Five pseudonymous contestants sued companies behind Beast Games in Los Angeles County Superior Court on September 16, 2024, seeking to represent a broader group. Their proposed class action alleges labor-law violations, unsafe and hostile working conditions, and misleading statements about the competition. Those are claims in the complaint, not findings by a court.
What is the Beast Games lawsuit about?
The plaintiffs’ central argument is that contestants performed work and should have been treated as workers entitled to labor-law protections, rather than as volunteers. The complaint states: “The Contestants were not volunteers. The Contestants were promised and received compensation in exchange for their services.” That is the plaintiffs’ position, not a judicial determination.

The complaint alleges that contestants were not paid minimum wages or overtime, did not receive uninterrupted meal and rest breaks, experienced delayed or inaccurate wage records and payments, and were not reimbursed for expenses. It also alleges inadequate food, hygiene supplies, medical care, sleep, and workplace safeguards, and says some challenges posed risks of physical or mental injury.
Additional allegations concern a hostile environment for female contestants, including alleged misogyny and sexual harassment. The complaint also alleges that defendants misrepresented the number of competitors and other conditions, and improperly obtained Nevada tax credits. The allegations have not been established in court.

Bloomberg Law identifies the case as Contestant 1 v. MRB2024 LLC, case number 24STCV24042, filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
What did the complaint say about the contestant count and prize?
The plaintiffs say contestants were told there would be 1,000 competitors and a $5 million prize, and allege the actual contestant count was higher than represented. These figures describe what the complaint says participants were told; they are not findings that the representation was false.

What is the case status, and can contestants claim money?
OpenClassActions’ case summary, published July 13, 2026, reports that discovery was ongoing, no class had been certified, and there was no settlement or claim form. The same secondary source reports that MysticArt Pictures was dismissed in May 2025. This status has not been verified against a current official state-court docket, so it should not be treated as definitive beyond that source’s report.
