Bazaar Technologies announced on July 9, 2025, that it had acquired Keenu, the payments brand associated with Wemsol. The Competition Commission of Pakistan had cleared Bazaar’s proposed acquisition of 100% of Wemsol in March. The purchase price was not disclosed in the announcement coverage.
What did Bazaar acquire?
The transaction concerned Wemsol, the company that operates Keenu—not merely a standalone app. The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) described its March 2025 approval as clearance for Bazaar Technologies to acquire 100% of Wemsol’s shareholding. Business Recorder identified Wemsol as the company operating Keenu, while the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) later listed Wemsol as the electronic money institution (EMI) and Keenu as its app name.
That distinction matters: the regulatory records name Wemsol, while the public-facing brand is Keenu. Bazaar describes itself as an e-commerce and financial-services technology company serving households and businesses; its Bazaar Pro service offers groceries and office supplies, among other products. These are company descriptions, not independent assessments of performance.
What is the timeline for the deal?
- February 24, 2025 — SBP licensing: SBP announced that Wemsol was licensed to commence commercial EMI operations, offering e-money wallet and payment gateway services to consumers and merchants. SBP’s announcement.
- March 7, 2025 — CCP clearance: The CCP approved Bazaar’s proposed acquisition of 100% of Wemsol. This was regulatory clearance for the proposed transaction, not the later public announcement. CCP’s decision announcement.
- July 9, 2025 — public announcement: Bazaar announced the Keenu acquisition. Business Recorder reported that the purchase amount was undisclosed. Business Recorder’s coverage and Bazaar’s newsroom.
- November 5, 2025 — SBP list: SBP’s EMI list identified Wemsol, the app name Keenu, and consumer wallet and payment gateway services under commercial operations. SBP’s EMI list.
The CCP release names Wemsol, not Keenu, and does not establish that the businesses had integrated. The reviewed public records establish the March clearance and July announcement, but do not include a separate transaction-closing document or a disclosed closing date.

Did regulators approve the acquisition?
The CCP said the relevant markets were EMI services, point-of-sale (POS) terminals, and related services in Pakistan. It characterized the proposed deal as a conglomerate merger, found no horizontal or vertical overlap, and said it did not anticipate a reduction in competition in those markets. This is the commission’s competition assessment; it is not a finding about the deal’s eventual commercial performance.
SBP’s February licensing announcement is a separate regulatory step: it concerned Wemsol’s authorization to begin commercial EMI activity, rather than the competition review of Bazaar’s acquisition. The two steps preceded Bazaar’s July announcement.

Why did Bazaar say it acquired Keenu?
Bazaar presented the acquisition as a way to connect commerce and payments in one ecosystem. Business Recorder reported that Bazaar co-founder Saad Jangda described the intended result as an integrated commerce-fintech platform. Jangda said, “This is more than an acquisition — it’s a strategic alignment that redefines what it means to serve households and businesses in Pakistan.” That is the company’s strategic rationale, not evidence that integration or customer benefits have already been achieved.
Keenu CEO Saad Niazi said the combination would expand Keenu’s reach and accelerate progress toward a cashless, digital Pakistan. He described it as “a new chapter for Keenu’s mission.” Business Recorder also reported that the companies planned to continue operating independently while aligning strategically. These statements describe the announced plan and executive expectations.

How large was Keenu at the time of the announcement?
Business Recorder reported that Keenu enabled more than $1 billion in annual payments volume through its POS terminals and had merchant presence in more than 150 cities and towns in Pakistan. These are figures reported in July 2025 coverage, not independently audited results or a verified current run rate and footprint.
The same report said Bazaar was founded in 2020 and Keenu launched in 2013. Those dates offer background, but do not by themselves indicate the scale or outcome of the acquisition.

How much did Bazaar pay, and what is still unknown?
The purchase price was not disclosed in the reviewed July 2025 announcement coverage. The available public records also do not establish quantified post-acquisition results, such as changes in payment volume, merchant reach, customer costs, or the degree of operational integration. Readers should distinguish the regulator’s approval of the proposed acquisition and the companies’ stated plans from evidence of outcomes after the announcement.
SBP’s November 5, 2025 list is a dated snapshot of Wemsol/Keenu’s listed EMI services. It does not establish whether the operating structure, regulatory status, or integration arrangements changed after that date.
