Its latest announced examples range from products already commercializing in specific markets to traits and chemistry still in development. Bayer presents them as ways to help farmers manage crop risks and make field decisions; the company’s announcements describe its strategy and claims, not independent proof of yield, financial, or environmental results.
How Bayer says its innovation portfolio fits together
Bayer describes Crop Science as combining seeds and traits, crop protection, digital agriculture, and agronomic expertise. Its innovation overview identifies biology, biotechnology, crop protection, and data science as research capabilities, with solutions intended to suit different crops, fields, and farm needs. The overview, published in August 2024, is useful for understanding the company’s approach; product timing below comes from Bayer’s later, dated announcements.
The logic is to connect technologies rather than treat each as a standalone answer: seed traits can address crop vulnerabilities, crop protection can manage weeds, insects, and disease, and digital tools can help inform decisions about field operations. Bayer executive Rodrigo Santos described the intended value proposition this way: “By connecting seed and crop protection innovation we can deliver whole-farm solutions that help growers manage risk, capture yield potential and improve return on investment,” (Bayer, September 2, 2026). That is Bayer’s stated aim, not independently demonstrated farmer returns.
What are Bayer’s latest crop science innovations?
Bayer’s September 2, 2026 announcement distinguishes products that had begun commercialization from future introductions and research projects. Availability is market-specific and may depend on local registration; the announcement is not a substitute for checking current status in a particular country.

|---|---|---|
| Preceon Smart Corn System | Corn system combining seed and agronomic approaches. | Bayer said commercialization had started and that the system was already delivering on-farm value in Mexico, Italy, Spain, and the United States. The company said a commercial launch in Argentina would begin in 2026. |
| Plenexos insecticide | Crop-protection chemistry for insect control. | Bayer said commercialization had begun. It reported introduction in Colombia, with Mexico, Brazil, and the United States expected to follow. |
| Vyconic | Soybean trait stack with tolerance to five herbicides. | Bayer expected introduction in the United States and Canada the following year—that is, 2027 relative to its September 2, 2026 announcement. This is a company plan, not confirmation of a completed launch. |
| Intacta 5+ | Soybean traits combining five herbicide tolerances with insect-protection traits for Brazil. | Bayer expected introduction for Brazil’s 2027/2028 growing season. This is a dated company expectation, not confirmation of availability. |
These examples are not direct substitutes: they address different crops or problems and are at different stages. Bayer’s announcement also described genome-edited soy with improved plant architecture as in development. It said more than 15 novel crop-protection modes of action were in the research phase. Neither statement establishes that a product is approved, available, or proven in farm conditions.
Seeds and traits: breeding, biotechnology, and future pipeline
Bayer says breeding, biotechnology, and trait development are ways to address challenges including pests, disease, and drought. Its current portfolio materials discuss breeding and genome editing alongside the seed pipeline. A trait announcement should be read in context: the crop, intended trait, geography, and development stage matter, and a planned introduction is not the same as a commercial launch.

In its September 2, 2026 release, Bayer said its AI-enabled precision-breeding platform produces 400 to 500 new hybrids and varieties annually. The company also claimed the platform doubles genetic gain compared with historical breeding and accelerates time to market threefold. These are Bayer-reported figures and comparisons; the announcement’s figures do not independently validate the methods or resulting farmer outcomes.
Crop protection: products and discovery research
Bayer’s crop-protection portfolio addresses weeds, disease, and insects and includes biological products. The company describes CropKey as a data- and AI-driven approach to discovering crop-protection chemistry. That is a research approach, not a guarantee that any future product will be effective, safe, or environmentally preferable.

- Accurate Soil Moisture Detection: The XLUX Soil Moisture Meter can tell you if the soil deep inside your pot or garden is dry, moist or wet; whereas your eyes and fingers can only determine the moisture level of the soil surface. The probe is 5.5 inches (14 cm) longer than regular styles, allowing it to measure the soil moisture at the bottom of larger and deeper flower pots.
- Easy-to-Read Large Dial: The large dial is easy to read and includes three zones with ten scales, making it very straightforward to understand.
- Immediate Moisture Reading: Insert the probe into the soil, and without waiting, the dial will immediately display the moisture level. You can then decide whether your plant needs watering based on the measurement. Do not leave this moisture meter in the soil for more than 5 minutes, as the metal tip will gradually corrode.
- Less Damage: A single probe causes less damage to plant roots compared to double or multiple probes, and when you remove the probe after testing, it won't bring out much soil.
- Usage Precautions: Do not use it to test very hard soil. Do not test water or other liquids. After testing, please wipe the probe clean.
Bayer’s 2025 Annual Report describes Icafolin as a planned new mode of action for post-emergent weed control in broad-acre crops. The company’s September 2026 announcement also put more than 15 novel modes of action in the research phase. These are pipeline descriptions, not evidence of regulatory approval or commercial availability.
Bayer reported that Plenexos could use up to 75 percent less active ingredient in a pest-control comparison. The release did not provide enough methodological detail to assess the comparator or conditions, so the percentage should be treated as Bayer’s claim rather than a general product result.

Digital agriculture: turning field data into decisions
Bayer describes FieldView as combining farm-generated data, data science, and satellite imagery. The company says it can provide information such as weather, in-season field health, and harvesting activity to inform choices about operations, crop protection, inputs, and harvest timing. These are described platform functions and intended decision support, not independently established savings or yield increases.
Bayer also describes multispectral drone imagery as a way to identify crop stress associated with pests, disease, or drought, and in-field sensors as tools for monitoring soil moisture and nutrients. The examples explain how data can complement field observation; Bayer’s descriptions do not mean the company owns or sells every drone or sensor mentioned.

Regenerative agriculture in Bayer’s framework
Bayer’s 2025 Annual Report presents regenerative agriculture as an outcome-driven system intended to maintain or increase yields while reducing inputs and producing positive effects on nature. Its framework names production resilience and goals related to soil health, biodiversity, water conservation, and field emissions. This is Bayer’s framing and ambition, not a universal definition or evidence that a particular product has achieved those outcomes.
How to interpret Bayer’s published figures
The company’s headline numbers describe ambitions, forecasts, or reported activity rather than independently verified outcomes. For example, Bayer said it aims to introduce 10 “blockbusters” over 10 years; it defines a blockbuster as a product expected to reach peak sales potential of at least €500 million. That is a sales-potential threshold and company ambition, not revenue already earned.
Bayer also reported more than €3 billion in peak sales potential for specified current and next-generation soybean trait generations. That figure is a forecast across the specified set of traits, not realized sales. As with the breeding comparisons and product claims above, the source is Bayer’s September 2, 2026 announcement, not an independent commercial or agronomic evaluation.
What these innovations mean for farmers
Bayer’s portfolio points toward an integrated model: seed traits and crop-protection products address biological risks, while digital tools are intended to help guide field decisions. Whether a specific option fits a farm depends on the crop, local availability and registration, field conditions, operating practices, and the evidence available for that product. The cited company materials establish Bayer’s strategy, named examples, and stated plans; they do not establish comparative efficacy, environmental impact, or commercial success.
