The announcement describes a research and product-development effort—not a product launch—and the reviewed sources do not identify an Oerth Bio product currently marketed to farmers.
What the Bayer–Oerth Bio collaboration is intended to do
The companies said they would pursue crop-protection products addressing weeds, diseases, and insect pests that harm crops. Oerth Bio brings agricultural expertise in designing PROTAC molecules; Bayer described its contribution as testing, development, and commercialization infrastructure. Those are the roles and objectives stated in Bayer’s January 19, 2023 announcement.
The announcement frames the work as an effort to develop a new approach to crop protection. It does not name a product, report a measured field trial result, or establish regulatory approval or commercial availability.
How PROTAC protein degradation is described
In the companies’ description, Oerth Bio’s PROTAC molecules are designed to interact with a target protein and activate a naturally occurring process in the target species. The intended result is to degrade a selected protein involved in a pest or disease mechanism, rather than simply inhibit its activity.

Oerth Bio and Bayer have presented target precision, low application rates, potential to address biological resistance, and protection of beneficial organisms as prospective advantages of this approach. These are company-stated aims, not demonstrated outcomes in the cited announcement. The sources reviewed do not provide comparable measurements for efficacy, application rate, environmental impact, safety, or effects on beneficial organisms.

Bayer’s 2024 annual report describes Oerth Bio as co-founded with Arvinas to apply targeted protein degradation to agricultural products intended to improve crop yields. Bayer’s November 2024 Crop Science progress report describes work to develop crop-protection solutions that induce degradation of specific pest proteins. These later company descriptions indicate development remained part of Bayer’s stated agricultural innovation work at that time; they do not establish launch, approval, or field performance.

Oerth Bio’s founders and ownership information
Bayer’s announcement says Oerth Bio was founded in 2019 by Bayer’s impact investment arm, Leaps by Bayer, and Arvinas. Arvinas likewise describes Oerth Bio as a 2019 joint venture established to research, develop, and commercialize PROTAC degraders for agriculture. In an SEC filing, Arvinas reported a 42.9% ownership interest as of December 31, 2025. That is a dated ownership figure, not a statement of ownership as of October 2026 or a measure of the collaboration’s results. See Arvinas’s 2025 Form 10-K.
How the announcement fits with Oerth Bio’s other work
In November 2022, Yara International announced a separate collaboration with Oerth Bio applying protein-degrader technology to crop-efficiency applications. That is adjacent context for Oerth Bio’s work, not evidence that Bayer’s collaboration has produced a crop-protection product. The Yara announcement is available at Yara’s November 2022 release.

What to look for in future updates
To assess whether the collaboration has moved beyond development aims, look for evidence that answers separate questions rather than relying on broad claims of precision or sustainability:
- Field efficacy: results identifying the crop, target pest or disease, location, conditions, and comparison treatment.
- Use rate and resistance: measured application rates and evidence about how the approach performs against resistant populations.
- Non-target effects and safety: findings about beneficial organisms and relevant safety assessments.
- Regulatory and commercial status: an identified product, applicable regulatory decisions, and confirmation that it is available in a specified market.
The cited announcement and subsequent Bayer reporting do not provide those results, so they do not support ranking protein degraders against established crop-protection approaches.
