Barbara Corcoran’s famous Pacific Palisades mobile home no longer exists. The home featured in Caleb Simpson’s 2023 tour was destroyed in the January 7, 2025 Palisades Fire, along with all but one of the 158 homes at Tahitian Terrace. Before the loss, Corcoran had reportedly spent $800,000 on the double-wide and another $150,000 on improvements—roughly $1 million for a coastal home she called her “Taj Mahal.”
The $1 million mobile home Barbara Corcoran called her “Taj Mahal” is gone

That makes Caleb Simpson’s widely viewed 2023 home tour a record of a former residence—not a current look inside Corcoran’s home. Before the fire, Corcoran had reportedly paid $800,000 for the double-wide and spent another $150,000 on improvements. The resulting $950,000 outlay was commonly rounded to “about $1 million.”

What Barbara Corcoran’s mobile home looked like
In Simpson’s July 21, 2023 video, Corcoran presented a bright, compact, open-concept home with a relaxed, boho-influenced design. Recaps of the tour described it as having two-and-a-half bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The home’s appeal came partly from how efficiently it used limited space. Its patio was large enough for lounge seating and a dining table for eight, giving the property an outdoor entertaining area that expanded the usable living space. Plants lined the terrace, and the primary bedroom had an ocean-facing view.
Reported interior features included:
- A wine refrigerator
- Tiles reused from Corcoran’s former New York home
- A bathtub she particularly valued
- A notably strong shower
- Light finishes and an open layout designed to make the home feel larger
The tour did not identify brands or model numbers for the wine refrigerator or other furnishings. Those details are best understood as design features, not product recommendations.
Simpson said he might like the mobile home more than Corcoran’s New York residence, and Corcoran agreed. That exchange captured the central appeal: the home was smaller and more unconventional than a typical celebrity property, but its location and livability mattered more to her than its size.
How Corcoran bought the home
Corcoran said she already knew the park and loved its view. Rather than wait for a listing, she knocked on the owner’s door and asked whether the home might be available.
The owner initially said she would sell in a year. Corcoran offered to buy immediately while allowing the woman to continue using the home for the rest of her life. That arrangement helped Corcoran acquire a property she wanted without requiring the seller to leave at once.

Reports differ on the purchase timing. Realtor.com described the purchase as taking place in 2017, while later fire coverage summarized Corcoran as saying she had owned the home for five years. Because those accounts do not align cleanly, a precise purchase year should be treated cautiously.

The commonly repeated “$1 million mobile home” description needs some arithmetic context:
| Item | Reported amount |
|---|---|
| Purchase price | $800,000 |
| Improvements | $150,000 |
| Purchase plus improvements | $950,000 |
The $950,000 figure is before any other costs, such as taxes, insurance, financing expenses, furnishings or ongoing maintenance. Calling it a million-dollar home is therefore a rounded media description, not evidence of a documented $1 million purchase price.
There was another important distinction: residents owned their mobile homes but rented the underlying lots. Tahitian Terrace’s lots were rent-controlled, according to reporting, but the land itself was not part of the individual homeowner’s purchase in the same way it would be with a conventional house and parcel.
That ownership model can make a mobile home in a premium location dramatically different from an ordinary manufactured home. The structure may be relatively compact, but the value of a scarce coastal location, access to the community and the right to occupy a particular lot can drive the price. Corcoran’s reported expenditure reflected more than the physical building; it also reflected the setting she considered irreplaceable.
At the same time, buyers in a land-lease community need to evaluate risks that do not arise in exactly the same form when buying a traditional house and land. Lot-rent rules, park ownership, resale restrictions, insurance coverage, financing availability and the long-term future of the community can all affect the economics.

What happened to Tahitian Terrace
On January 7, 2025, the Palisades Fire destroyed Corcoran’s home and nearly the entire Tahitian Terrace community. The Los Angeles Times reported that all but one of the park’s 158 mobile and prefabricated homes were destroyed.
Corcoran described Tahitian Terrace as a tight-knit community in which neighbors had become family. After the fire, she helped create a GoFundMe for displaced residents. The loss was therefore both a personal property loss and a community-wide disaster.
Her home’s destruction also illustrates why the “million-dollar trailer” label can be misleading. A high purchase price does not make a mobile home immune to wildfire, nor does it automatically guarantee that a replacement structure can be built on the same site. The future of the lot, the park, local approvals, insurance claims and the landowner’s plans all matter.
Did Barbara Corcoran rebuild?
In March 2025, Corcoran said she would rebuild if she could. She also said she might sell her other homes and live in the trailer full time. Those comments described her intention and attachment to the property; they did not establish that rebuilding had started or been completed.
The latest location-specific reporting reviewed, dated April 3, 2026, found former Tahitian Terrace residents still uncertain about whether—and when—they could return. The park owners said determining whether to rebuild or sell would likely take years rather than months and said they were exploring a sale to a qualified buyer.
Residents discussed buying the land collectively or working with the owners to reopen the park. The owners reportedly said they did not want to collaborate. No credible source in the research reviewed confirmed that Corcoran had rebuilt or replaced her home by August 10, 2026.
Rank #4
The accurate current description is therefore: Corcoran intended to rebuild if possible, but the park’s future remained unresolved in the latest reporting available for this article.

Tahitian Terrace is part of a larger conflict surrounding fire-damaged mobile-home parks in coastal Los Angeles. Land in these areas can be extremely valuable for redevelopment, while mobile-home parks provide relatively affordable housing in places where conventional real estate is far less accessible.
Reporting on the neighboring Palisades Bowl has illustrated the tension between coastal land values, redevelopment pressure, current zoning and affordable-housing protections that may favor restoring the mobile-home use.
That neighboring-park reporting provides context, not proof of Corcoran’s individual rebuilding status. Tahitian Terrace’s ownership, negotiations and approvals remain specific to that park.

Corcoran’s home tour was memorable because it challenged the assumption that luxury is measured primarily by square footage. She had the resources to own larger and more conventional homes, yet she chose a relatively compact property because of its view, location and social environment.
Her “Taj Mahal” nickname was also revealing. It was not a claim that the home was physically grand. It expressed the value she placed on the property: a private retreat near the ocean, improved to her taste, inside a community she loved.
For viewers, the lesson is not that any mobile home in a coastal park is worth nearly $1 million. It is that real-estate value can come from a combination of scarce location, community access, improvements and personal utility. Those factors can make a nontraditional home highly desirable—but they can also create unique legal, financial and disaster-recovery complications.
