How did the free bun offer work?
Customers could receive one free bun, with no purchase required, while supplies lasted. Each Bakers Delight bakery had 300 buns to give away, allocated to its first 300 customers. PerthNow reported a national allocation of 150,000 buns.
What was in the Raspberry and White Choc Hot Cross Bun?
The limited-edition seasonal bun combined real raspberries, raspberry-infused cranberries and white choc chips. Bakers Delight later described the Raspberry & White Choc Hot Cross Bun as a limited-time product.

Could customers buy the bun after the giveaway?
Yes. Although the free handout was limited to March 13, PerthNow reported that the bun remained available to purchase in stores through March 19, 2025. That sales period has also passed; current availability is not established.

Head Baker Luke Farrell said, “We’re thrilled to be declaring Thursday, March 13th as National Hot Cross Bun Day and offer Aussies a free, freshly baked bun to mark the occasion.” He also said the bakery had been making hot cross buns for more than 40 years and that its Traditional Hot Cross Buns had the same flavour they did in the 1980s.
PerthNow quoted Bakers Delight as saying it sells around 18 million hot cross buns from January through April and more than 4.2 million during Easter week in 2025.
