AWS launched its AI Agents and Tools catalog on July 16, 2025, one day after its originally reported launch date. It is a marketplace for finding and purchasing partner products—not a single AWS-hosted agent or a guarantee that every agent runs inside your AWS account. Anthropic was named as a partner in the pre-launch reporting; today, its Claude products are also available through AWS channels, including AWS Marketplace and Claude Platform on AWS.
What AWS launched—and when
On July 10, 2025, TechCrunch reported that AWS planned to introduce an AI-agent marketplace at AWS Summit New York on July 15, naming Anthropic among the partners. That was a pre-launch report based on people familiar with the plan, not a detailed joint product announcement. AWS announced AI Agents and Tools in AWS Marketplace on July 16, 2025. AWS said hundreds of agent solutions were available at launch; that description covered solutions and tools, not necessarily hundreds of standalone autonomous agents. The original report is at TechCrunch.
The catalog is a commercial discovery and procurement channel. Depending on the listing, buyers can find prebuilt agents, tools used by agents, software with embedded agent features, development products, and partner professional services. AWS describes natural-language discovery and standard Marketplace purchasing, which can include subscriptions, negotiated offers, and AWS billing. The catalog’s product documentation and current catalog page describe offerings and deployment approaches.
“Agent” is not a uniform product label. One listing may offer software that plans and takes actions through tools; another may be a callable API, a guardrail, a knowledge component, an integration, an embedded assistant, or implementation help. A listing’s description and technical documentation matter more than the category name.

What Anthropic’s partnership means now
Anthropic’s role in the original launch was reported by TechCrunch, not spelled out in AWS’s launch announcement as a comprehensive product lineup or joint marketplace operation. It should not be read to mean Anthropic powers the marketplace or supplies every agent. AWS Marketplace includes products from multiple partners.
Since then, AWS and Anthropic have documented several distinct ways to access Claude. Claude models are available through Amazon Bedrock; Anthropic offers Claude Enterprise through AWS Marketplace; and Anthropic’s Claude Platform on AWS provides a separate route with AWS authentication, billing, IAM integration, and CloudTrail logging. Anthropic announced general availability of Claude Platform on AWS on May 11, 2026. See Anthropic’s Claude on AWS overview and Claude Platform announcement.
Claude Platform on AWS has its own billing mechanics: AWS documentation says usage is metered in Claude Consumption Units (CCUs) at $0.01 per CCU, with model and feature usage determining consumption. That is not a universal price for Claude, AWS Marketplace agents, or Bedrock usage. Confirm applicable rates, negotiated terms, and feature availability in the relevant offer and billing documentation. AWS also announced Claude Tag in beta for customers using Claude Enterprise through AWS Marketplace in June 2026; see AWS’s announcement.

Marketplace, Bedrock, and AgentCore are different layers
A useful conceptual model is: Marketplace helps you discover and buy; Bedrock provides managed model access and generative-AI building services; AgentCore provides runtime and operational capabilities for deploying and operating agents. These products can work together, but they are not interchangeable, and this shorthand is not AWS’s formal product taxonomy.
| Product | Primary role | What a buyer or developer uses it for |
|---|---|---|
| AWS Marketplace AI Agents and Tools | Catalog, procurement, and commercial distribution | Find partner agents, tools, embedded-agent software, and services; evaluate the specific listing’s deployment and terms. |
| Amazon Bedrock | Managed foundation-model and generative-AI platform | Access supported models, including Claude, and build AI applications and agents. |
| Amazon Bedrock AgentCore | Agent deployment and operations layer | Run and manage compatible agents and connect them to tools. AWS says AgentCore supports multiple frameworks and models, including models outside Bedrock. |
Selected Marketplace products can run on AgentCore Runtime or connect through AgentCore Gateway; compatibility is product-specific. AWS’s overview of AgentCore general availability explains its role and supported frameworks and models.
What buyers can find and how deployment works
AWS’s buyer documentation groups offerings across areas such as content creation, data analysis, customer service, business-process automation, security and compliance, and developer tools. Supporting products can include guardrails, knowledge bases, business-logic components, APIs, and integrations. Offerings may be SaaS, API-delivered, container-based, or available through other AWS deployment models where the listing supports them. Professional services can help with implementation or customization.

- Find a candidate. Browse the AI Agents and Tools section or use its discovery features. AWS Marketplace also has an Agent Mode interface to help search, compare, evaluate, and prepare purchases; that buying assistant is not proof that every catalog item is itself an agent. Details are in the Agent Mode guide.
- Read the listing and technical requirements. Identify what the product actually does, its deployment model, supported integrations and protocols, permissions, regions, pricing structure, and contractual terms. Confirm whether a private offer or additional vendor subscription is required.
- Choose the commercial route. Subscribe or negotiate a private offer through Marketplace where available. AWS Marketplace can support consolidated billing and, for eligible purchases under applicable terms, use of AWS spending commitments; do not assume every listing qualifies.
- Deploy using the supported path. A SaaS or API product may run in the vendor’s environment; a container option may allow deployment into your AWS environment, with operating responsibilities that vary by product. Compatible agents may use AgentCore Runtime, while AgentCore Gateway can connect agents to API-based tools and services. Buyer workflow and integration details are in AWS’s AI agent product guide.
- Connect and govern it. Configure identity, data access, tools, logging, monitoring, cost controls, and human approvals before giving the agent production permissions.
How MCP and A2A fit
Model Context Protocol (MCP) is a way for agents to connect with tools, APIs, data sources, and services. Agent-to-Agent (A2A) supports communication among specialized agents. AWS says protocol information can help buyers assess interoperability, and AgentCore Gateway can connect agents to API-based tools. Support is listing-specific: verify the supported protocol and version, authentication method, data flow, and whether an integration can take actions or is read-only in the vendor’s documentation.
What has changed since the 2025 launch
AWS has developed the catalog beyond its initial announcement. In June 2026, AWS described a Partner Agent Factory program for validated partner-built agents based on Amazon Bedrock, Strands Agents, and Bedrock AgentCore. AWS said these solutions could be purchased through Marketplace, with consolidated billing and purchases counting toward existing AWS spending commitments under the program’s terms. See the AWS Partner Agent Factory announcement.

The catalog and AWS’s adjacent services do not make agents equivalent or guarantee that a listing is independently validated, secure for every use, or portable. The commercially relevant distinction remains whether you are buying a finished partner application, building with AWS model services, or adopting Claude through an AWS procurement and governance path.

What to check before buying an agent
- Deployment and data flow: Establish where prompts, retrieved documents, tool outputs, logs, and telemetry are processed and retained. Buying through AWS Marketplace does not by itself mean inference or data processing occurs inside your AWS account or in a particular region.
- Model and dependencies: Confirm whether it uses Claude, Bedrock models, an open-source model, or multiple providers, and identify any separate model-access, connector, or vendor requirements.
- Identity and authority: Check IAM and service-account support, tenant separation, least-privilege permissions, and whether actions require human approval. Limit access to what the workflow needs.
- Safety and oversight: Test prompt injection and indirect instructions in connected documents and tools. Put approval gates around financial transactions, production changes, deletion, regulated decisions, and customer communications.
- Audit and operations: Review tool-call traces, CloudTrail or application logs, retention and export policies, support, uptime commitments, regional availability, version pinning, rollback, and incident response.
- Protocol and integration fit: Verify actual MCP or A2A compatibility, versions, authentication, schema mapping, and action scope; a protocol label alone does not ensure plug-and-play interoperability.
- Total cost and exit: Include Marketplace fees, agent execution, model consumption, retrieval, storage, tool APIs, AWS services, implementation, and support. Ask how prompts, workflows, tools, memory, and evaluation data can be exported if you change vendors.
These checks also clarify the trade-offs. Vendor-hosted SaaS or APIs may be quicker to adopt but offer less control over execution and data handling. Customer-deployed containers can provide more control while shifting patching, scaling, monitoring, and security work to the buyer. More agent permissions can enable more useful actions while increasing the impact of a mistaken action, prompt injection, or compromised credentials.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Who should consider it—and who may not need it
The Marketplace catalog is most relevant to enterprises that already use AWS procurement, want partner-built integrations or implementation services, or need centralized purchasing and billing. AWS customers may also find it useful when a specific agent has a deployment model and controls that fit their architecture. The catalog reduces discovery and procurement friction; it does not remove the work of vendor evaluation and governance.
A team seeking a simple consumer chatbot, a fully cloud-neutral agent stack, or a workflow where deterministic software is safer and cheaper may not benefit from adding an autonomous agent. If a vendor cannot clearly document data handling, permissions, costs, and recovery procedures, delay production access until those issues are resolved.

Other routes for Claude and agent development
There is no single best route for every buyer. Claude through Bedrock, Claude Enterprise through Marketplace, and Claude Platform on AWS differ in product features, billing, control plane, and data-processing assumptions. Direct Anthropic access may suit teams that want Anthropic’s native commercial and technical channel; AWS Marketplace procurement may better fit organizations that need AWS billing and purchasing workflows. Compare the current terms and capabilities for the exact service rather than assuming parity.
Google Vertex AI and Microsoft Foundry are broader platform alternatives for organizations standardized on Google Cloud or Azure, respectively; they are not one-for-one equivalents to AWS Marketplace’s partner catalog. See the official pages for Anthropic API, Google Vertex AI, and Microsoft Foundry. A meaningful platform comparison depends on current features, regional availability, pricing, and governance needs.
