Robert Half’s 2026 salary guide projects a £100,000 median, within a £85,000–£130,000 range; Indeed reports a £151,751 average for UK blockchain engineers, based on 18 salaries from job postings. Because the sources use different job labels and methods, treat these as separate benchmarks—not figures to combine into one market average.
What are the current UK salary benchmarks?
| Source and role label | Figure | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Robert Half, Blockchain Developer | £85,000 at the 25th percentile; £100,000 at the 50th percentile; £130,000 at the 75th percentile | Projected 2026 UK salary-guide figures. Robert Half says its projections draw on compensation data from candidates its recruiters matched with companies, and 350,000 third-party vacancy records from Textkernel for independent validation. |
| Indeed, Blockchain Engineer | £151,751 average per year; stated range £85,676–£268,782 | Indeed reports this average from 18 salaries taken from job postings in the preceding 36 months; the page was updated 15 July 2026. The page’s stated range was accessed 7 October 2026. |
The £51,751 gap between Robert Half’s median projection and Indeed’s reported average is not explained by the available figures. One is a salary-guide percentile projection; the other is an average based on a small posting-derived sample. “Blockchain developer” and “blockchain engineer” may also describe overlapping, but not identical, roles. Neither figure is an official census of everyone doing blockchain development work in the UK.
How much do blockchain developers earn in different UK cities?
Indeed lists estimates of £161,314 for London, £136,935 for Derby and £74,776 for Edinburgh. These are figures from the same limited Indeed data source, accessed 7 October 2026. They should not be read as reliable city pay scales or a stable ranking: the page’s overall estimate is based on just 18 salaries, and the figures do not establish that each city has a sufficiently large or comparable sample.
Why isn’t there a definitive official average?
The Office for National Statistics’ Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) is an official annual source for earnings by occupation, industry and geography. The reviewed ONS materials do not provide a dedicated estimate for blockchain developers, so broader IT or software occupation figures cannot be presented as blockchain-specific pay.

ASHE is conducted in April each year and collects pay information across jobs, regions and local areas. The ONS’s 2025 employee-earnings release identifies its estimates as provisional. It defines full-time work as more than 30 paid hours a week for most employees and cautions that annual pay estimates are not directly comparable with weekly or hourly figures. See the ONS ASHE methodology and ONS Employee earnings 2025.

For a pay discussion, career decision or budget, choose the closest benchmark to the job and pay arrangement in question. Compare:

- Role and duties: Check whether the job is called a developer or engineer and what work it actually covers.
- Seniority and experience: Match the responsibilities and relevant experience rather than assuming one national figure applies to every level. The cited salary pages do not provide a reliable seniority breakdown.
- Location and work arrangement: Consider the role’s location and remote status, but do not treat Indeed’s limited city estimates as dependable regional rates.
- Employment and pay type: Keep an employee’s annual salary separate from a contractor’s day rate.
- Measure and date: Distinguish a percentile, an average and an advertised offer; note the sample size and whether the source is reporting a projection or observed postings.
These checks help explain why salary figures differ; they do not turn either published benchmark into a precise prediction of an individual offer.
