Avelo’s January 6, 2026 announcement confirms a network restructuring, three base closures and upcoming schedule changes—but it does not confirm that the airline is cutting 66% of its international routes. The announcement provides neither a list of international routes being removed nor before-and-after route counts to substantiate that figure.
What Avelo announced on January 6, 2026
Avelo said it would focus on four current bases: New Haven (HVN), Philadelphia/Delaware Valley (ILG), Charlotte/Concord (USA) and Central Florida/Lakeland (LAL). The airline announced that it would close its bases in Mesa, Arizona (AZA); Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina (RDU); and Wilmington, North Carolina (ILM). It also said it planned to open a base at Dallas/McKinney in late 2026. These are plans described in Avelo’s January 6, 2026 company announcement, not independently verified completion claims.
Avelo said it would remove six Boeing 737-700 aircraft from its fleet, leaving it primarily operating 737-800 aircraft, and referred to an order for up to 100 Embraer 195-E2 aircraft. Those figures describe the airline’s announced plans; they do not establish that the fleet changes have been completed.
Which routes are being cut?
The announcement does not provide a route-by-route list of cuts, identify international routes being discontinued, or give comparable route counts before and after the changes. Avelo said near-term schedule changes would affect many customer itineraries, but that is not enough to determine which specific flights or routes are affected.

A base closure is also not the same as a full withdrawal from an airport. Avelo said it expected to continue serving RDU from New Haven and Rochester, and ILM from Nashville, New Haven, Tampa and Washington/Baltimore. Travelers should check their specific itinerary rather than assume that every route touching a closing base has ended.
Why the 66% claim is unverified
To verify a percentage reduction in international routes, a source would need to define the comparison period and count the same kind of service on both sides—for example, scheduled international city-pair routes in specified schedule seasons. Whether seasonal or temporarily suspended routes count would also matter. A route count is not interchangeable with a count of destinations or weekly flights.

Avelo’s route-announcement archive and new-routes listing provide dated additions and planned service dates. The pages do not supply the route-level before-and-after comparison needed to confirm a 66% decline. On the available official evidence, that number should not be treated as established.

Avelo said impacted customers would receive direct notice by email and text, and that customers needing more help could contact its Customer Support Center.
