The company said it would use the financing to expand business-process automation and improve collaboration between employees and software bots. This was a 2019 private-company financing—not a current funding announcement or a public-market valuation.

What Automation Anywhere did in 2019
Automation Anywhere sold enterprise software for robotic process automation (RPA) and intelligent automation. Its software bots were programs that performed tasks in business applications—not physical robots. RPA commonly automates repetitive, rules-based digital work; the company’s 2019 positioning also emphasized AI-oriented capabilities and linking front-office and back-office processes.
Why Salesforce Ventures’ role mattered
The investment coincided with Automation Anywhere’s Salesforce Connector, which the company said was available through Salesforce AppExchange. The integration was intended to let Salesforce users deploy prebuilt bots, including attended bots that could assist customer-service representatives during live interactions.

Strategically, that connection offered a route to bring automation into work surrounding CRM, rather than confining bots to isolated back-office tasks. Salesforce gained an automation capability to complement its customer-workflow ecosystem; Automation Anywhere gained a closer connection to Salesforce’s enterprise customer base and distribution. Those are implications of the partnership, not disclosed explanations of Salesforce Ventures’ investment decision.
Attended and unattended automation
- Attended automation works alongside a person, often when an employee starts or supervises a bot. For example, a service representative might invoke a bot during a call to retrieve information or complete repetitive steps.
- Unattended automation runs independently, often on a schedule or in response to an event, without an employee initiating each task.
The funding announcement stressed human-to-bot collaboration, making attended automation especially relevant to the Salesforce integration it described.

What the company said it would do with the money
Automation Anywhere said the capital would support end-to-end business-process automation, connect front-office and back-office work, and improve human-to-bot collaboration. It presented better customer experience, employee productivity, business agility, and efficiency as potential benefits. Those were company objectives and claims, not independently demonstrated outcomes of the financing.
How the round fit its earlier financing
About a year earlier, Automation Anywhere had announced a $550 million Series A. The company named SoftBank Investment Advisers, General Atlantic, Goldman Sachs, New Enterprise Associates, World Innovation Lab, and Workday Ventures among the participants in that financing. Adding the reported Series A and Series B amounts gives approximately $840 million in funding across the two rounds.

Why a $6.8 billion valuation drew attention
The $6.8 billion figure was a post-money valuation: the transaction’s stated private-company valuation after the new financing. It was not $6.8 billion in revenue, profit, cash raised, or a price paid to acquire the whole company. Nor was it a public-market capitalization; Automation Anywhere was privately held.

In 2019, enterprises were looking to automate manual digital work, while vendors were pitching RPA as a platform for broader processes rather than a collection of small scripted tasks. The large round and strategic participation reflected investor interest in that expanding category. Contemporary VentureBeat coverage compared the valuation with UiPath’s reported valuation that year, illustrating how highly investors were pricing leading private RPA companies. A transaction valuation signals investor pricing at that moment; by itself, it does not establish future performance or business fundamentals.
What the 2019 product references mean—and do not mean
Contemporary coverage discussed Automation Anywhere’s IQ Bot and Bot Store alongside RPA, intelligent automation, and AI-assisted processing. Those references describe the product context of the period, not a complete account of the company’s current portfolio.

Automation Anywhere’s 2019 press archive places the announcement in its historical context. Its current website uses the broader term “Agentic Process Automation” and presents capabilities such as AI Agent Studio, Automation Co-Pilot, Document Automation, and Process Discovery. That later vocabulary should not be projected backward as if it described the products or terminology behind the 2019 round.
