The Asus TUF Gaming A16 FA607PI was reported at $1,399 on Amazon on July 24, 2024—but the available evidence does not verify a $500 reduction from a documented prior Amazon price. That historical configuration pairs a Ryzen 9 7940HX with an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD and a 16-inch 1600p, 165Hz display. Treat the $500-off headline as unconfirmed, not as proof of a current deal: the price, seller and condition on Amazon’s listing can change.
What the reported Amazon deal actually was
The deal report identified the 2024 ASUS TUF Gaming A16, model FA607PI, and Amazon listing ASIN B0CRCWY9VT. On July 24, 2024, Notebookcheck reported a $1,399 Amazon price and called it an all-time low at that time. That is a dated deal report, not confirmation of today’s price or stock. Notebookcheck’s report and the Amazon listing refer to the product, but Amazon’s dynamic page must be checked for the current offer.
The configuration to match
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HX, with 16 cores and 32 threads and boost speeds up to 5.2GHz, according to ASUS’s specifications.
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU with 8GB of GDDR6 memory, specified at up to 140W including Dynamic Boost for this configuration. Laptop GPU performance is not equivalent to a desktop RTX 4070 and depends on power limits, cooling and workload.
- Memory and storage: The cited FA607PI configuration has 16GB of DDR5-5200 memory and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. ASUS lists two SO-DIMM memory slots and two M.2 storage slots for the series.
- Screen: A 16-inch, 16:10, 2560 × 1600 IPS-level panel with a 165Hz refresh rate and G-SYNC support. ASUS lists 100% sRGB coverage; that gamut specification alone does not establish color accuracy or calibration quality.
- Other features: Windows 11 Home, a MUX switch and Nvidia Advanced Optimus are listed for the FA607PI family. ASUS lists a battery capacity of up to 90Wh for the series, which does not by itself establish battery runtime.
Amazon may group multiple configurations on one product page. Confirm the selected option’s model, CPU, GPU, resolution, memory, storage, condition and seller—not only the headline or product image.
Does the $500 discount check out?
Not from the available price evidence. Notebookcheck documented the $1,399 price in its July 2024 report, but did not establish the exact prior Amazon price needed to calculate a verified $500 saving. ASUS’s US launch announcement gave the 2024 A16 a starting price of $1,399.99; that is a launch starting price, not proof that this specific configuration previously sold for $1,899. ASUS’s announcement and the historical deal report therefore support the $1,399 figure, but not the advertised $500 arithmetic.

A reference price, MSRP, previous Amazon price and checkout coupon are different things. A large discount can be genuine if measured against a documented recent selling price for the same new configuration, but an inflated list price or another variant does not prove that. The original report’s “all-time low” characterization is also a historical observation, not a guarantee of the lowest price across every retailer or a statement about current pricing.
Check the offer before buying
- Open the Amazon page for ASIN B0CRCWY9VT and select the configuration. Match the FA607PI specifications above; do not assume every option on the page is the same laptop.
- Record the displayed price and any coupon separately. A checkbox coupon, sign-in offer or other conditional discount may not apply to every buyer.
- Check whether the item is new, renewed, used or open-box, and identify the actual seller and fulfillment details. Seller identity and condition can change even when the ASIN remains the same.
- Review the return terms, warranty coverage, delivery date, shipping and final checkout amount. Amazon pricing can vary with availability and other offer details; taxes may be added at checkout.
- Compare the verified offer with current prices for similarly equipped laptops. If you want to call it “$500 off,” retain evidence of the same configuration’s prior price and state what the reference price represents.
What makes the FA607PI appealing for gaming
The main draw is the combination of a high-core-count Ryzen 9, a high-power RTX 4070 Laptop GPU and a sharp, fast-refresh 1600p screen. ASUS’s official specifications establish the hardware features, while Notebookcheck’s report provides independent observations of this model. Neither GPU labels nor manufacturer specifications guarantee a particular frame rate: results change with the game, resolution, graphics settings, ray tracing, DLSS, thermal profile and power limits.

Native 2560 × 1600 gaming gives a clearer image than 1080p, but it also asks more of the GPU. In demanding games, buyers may need to reduce settings or use DLSS to maintain smooth performance. The 165Hz refresh rate is most useful when a game can produce high frame rates; it does not mean every demanding title will run at 165 frames per second.
Memory is upgradeable, but check the module layout
Sixteen gigabytes is sufficient for many games and everyday tasks, but demanding newer games, streaming, content creation, virtual machines or heavy multitasking can put it under pressure. ASUS lists two expandable DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, so a 32GB upgrade is a practical option. The available specification does not establish whether the Amazon unit ships with one 16GB module or two 8GB modules; verify the exact unit before assuming its memory-channel configuration. Consult the product’s warranty and service terms before opening it.

Compromises to weigh against the price
Noise and heat
Notebookcheck observed fan noise of approximately 59dB in maximum-fan mode and CPU temperatures occasionally around 95°C under its test conditions. These are test observations, not guaranteed results for every room, firmware version or operating mode. Expect demanding gaming to produce substantial fan noise, and understand that quiet, performance and turbo profiles can trade noise, temperature and speed differently.
The screen is gaming-oriented, not automatically creator-grade
The 1600p resolution, 165Hz refresh rate and ASUS-listed 100% sRGB coverage make the panel attractive for gaming and general use. Notebookcheck nevertheless criticized its color accuracy. Gamut coverage is not the same as accurate color reproduction; the cited specifications and observations do not establish professional calibration quality. Buyers doing color-critical work should look for independent measurements of accuracy and brightness before relying on this display.

Webcam, speakers and portability
Notebookcheck described the webcam and speakers as mediocre. This is a performance-focused gaming laptop, not a thin-and-light system; buyers who need quiet gaming, frequent travel or strong built-in audio should weigh those trade-offs. The 90Wh figure ASUS lists for the series is capacity, not a tested battery-life result, and gaming runtime should not be inferred from it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How it compares with the newer TUF A16
The FA607PI is a 2024 model, not the newest TUF A16 generation. ASUS’s US store catalog showed a 2025 TUF A16 starting-price signal of $1,549.99 when crawled in August 2026, with headline hardware including a Ryzen 7 260 processor, RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, up to 16GB of DDR5-5600 memory and up to a 2560 × 1600, 165Hz display. ASUS cautions that the displayed price may not correspond to the exact specifications shown, so this is not a confirmed like-for-like comparison. See the ASUS TUF Gaming catalog for its current listings.

Compare the actual selected configurations, GPU power limits, memory, screen, warranty and checkout prices. If a new 2025 model costs only modestly more than a new FA607PI, it merits serious consideration; if the 2024 RTX 4070 model is substantially cheaper, it may still suit buyers prioritizing performance per dollar.
Quick Recap
Who should consider this laptop?
- Consider it if the listing is the new FA607PI, the seller and warranty terms are acceptable, and the verified price is clearly competitive with current RTX 4070 and newer RTX 5060/5070 laptops.
- It may suit you if you want a 16-inch high-refresh screen and strong CPU/GPU hardware, and can tolerate fan noise or upgrade memory later.
- Be cautious if the price is near that of a newer RTX 5070 laptop, the offer is renewed or from an unfamiliar marketplace seller, or the advertised saving relies only on an unexplained reference price.
- Look elsewhere if quiet operation, portability, professional color accuracy or strong built-in webcam and speaker quality are priorities.
