Ubisoft said Assassin’s Creed Shadows reached three million players in its first week. That was a player-count milestone, not a report of three million copies sold—and it does not show that the game itself broke even. Ubisoft later reported more than five million unique players since launch, while its separate break-even outlook referred to the company’s overall finances.
How many players does Assassin’s Creed Shadows have?
Ubisoft’s April 15, 2025 announcement said the game reached three million players in one week. In its July 22, 2025 first-quarter 2025–26 sales release, Ubisoft reported more than five million unique players since launch. The latter is the later official milestone in the sources cited here; neither figure should be presented as a current lifetime total beyond its reporting date.

Did Assassin’s Creed Shadows sell three million copies?
No such sales figure appears in these announcements. Ubisoft described the first milestone as “players” and the later one as “unique players,” not copies sold. A player count is a different measure: Ubisoft listed the game across paid console and PC storefronts as well as Ubisoft+ and Amazon Luna, so the count cannot be read as a tally of individual purchases.
Players, copies sold, revenue, and profit answer different questions. The two player milestones do not disclose how many copies were purchased, how much revenue the game generated, or how much of that revenue remained after costs.

Has Assassin’s Creed Shadows broken even?
The cited official material does not establish a title-specific break-even point or say that Shadows has broken even. Ubisoft’s May 14, 2025 full-year 2024–25 release gave company-level FY2025–26 guidance for approximately break-even non-IFRS operating income alongside negative free cash flow. That is a forecast for Ubisoft as a whole, not a profitability result for this game.
To establish a game’s break-even point, readers would need title-level costs and revenue, along with a clear definition of which costs and revenue are included. Ubisoft’s cited releases do not provide those inputs for Shadows. The corporate outlook therefore cannot be used to infer the game’s sales, costs, or profitability.

What does Ubisoft mean by break-even?
In this context, “approximately break-even non-IFRS operating income” describes a company-wide financial outlook using Ubisoft’s non-IFRS measure. It is not the same as a game recouping its development and marketing costs, nor does it mean Ubisoft expected to generate no cash outflow: the same outlook included negative free cash flow. The company’s May 14, 2025 earnings release is the source for that guidance.

Ubisoft’s April 2025 article listed PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Ubisoft+, Amazon Luna, Macs with Apple silicon through the Mac App Store, and Windows PC through Ubisoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store. The article described an iPad version as forthcoming at the time; that dated note does not establish its present availability. Platform access matters when interpreting player counts because a player is not necessarily a retail purchaser.
