Asian Paints was reported lower for a second consecutive session on October 8, 2026, but the available evidence does not establish a company-specific reason for the decline. One market snapshot put its trailing P/E at 50.23, a high absolute multiple that deserves scrutiny—not a verdict on whether the shares are fairly valued.
What happened to Asian Paints shares?
Univest’s October 8, 2026 report described a second consecutive down session. It cited a price of ₹2,320.05, down 4.13% cumulatively from a ₹2,420 reference price. This is a secondary publisher’s snapshot, not an exchange-certified reconstruction. Univest, October 8, 2026
ET Now’s October 8 market page showed ₹2,311.60 as a last-close value. The two reported prices do not match, so they should not be treated as one synchronized exchange close. Market pages can capture different price timestamps or update schedules; check a live exchange quote for a current trading price. ET Now, October 8, 2026
Two down sessions describe a short-term move, not proof of a durable downtrend.

Why did the share price fall?
The cause is not established by the available reports. Univest explicitly said it had not established a company-specific catalyst. The evidence therefore does not support attributing this particular decline to results, competition, input costs, or another factor.
A price move alone cannot identify its cause. Investors should distinguish a reported market movement from a verified company announcement or a demonstrated change in business performance.

Is Asian Paints still expensive?
ET Now’s October 8, 2026 snapshot listed a trailing twelve-month (TTM) P/E of 50.23 and a price-to-book ratio of 11.17. It also showed debt/equity of 0.11, return on equity of 20.42%, and dividend yield of 1.14%. These are that provider’s last-close figures; its TTM period ended in June 2026. Ratios can differ with the share-price timestamp, earnings period, and provider methodology. ET Now, October 8, 2026
A P/E of 50.23 means the snapshot’s share price was about 50 times the earnings used in its trailing calculation. That is a substantial absolute multiple, but one trailing ratio cannot establish intrinsic value or tell you whether the shares are cheap relative to their own history or listed peers. A like-for-like historical and peer comparison is not established here.

For a useful valuation check, confirm whether the earnings are trailing or forecast, whether they are consolidated or standalone, and how one-off items affect the denominator. Then compare equivalent measures across time and relevant peers. A premium could be supported by expectations for future growth and returns; if those expectations weaken, the multiple could contract even if the business remains profitable. Neither outcome is guaranteed by the current ratio.
