Arturo Gatti’s exact net worth when he died is not established by a verified public accounting. Published figures range from $3.4 million in 2011 estate-litigation reporting to more than $6 million claimed in a private-investigator report; Celebrity Net Worth gives a $4 million estimate. Those figures describe different sources and contexts, so none should be treated as a confirmed balance sheet.
What was Arturo Gatti’s net worth?
The most accurate answer is that his net worth is unknown from reliable public financial documentation. The available figures are estimates or reports about his estate at particular moments—not a verified accounting of his assets, debts, taxes, and other liabilities at death.
| Figure | Source and context | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| $4 million | Celebrity Net Worth; undated page reviewed in 2026. | A secondary estimate, not an audited filing. The page also refers to a reported Mayweather-fight purse of about $3.5 million, but that purse does not establish Gatti’s net worth. |
| More than $6 million | A private-investigator report from 2011, produced by investigators commissioned amid the disputed death investigation. | The investigators’ assertion about Gatti’s net worth at death. It is not an audited statement or judicial valuation. |
| $3.4 million | Canadian Press reporting in 2011 about the Quebec will dispute. | The reported fortune at issue in the inheritance case. The article also quoted a lawyer estimating that $3 million to $3.5 million remained in the estate then, while legal issues were ongoing and assets in Canada and the United States were partly frozen. |
| “I think his estate was $5, 6 million…I don’t know.” | Arturo’s brother Fabrizio Gatti, quoted by CBS News in 2011. | An explicitly uncertain recollection, not a verified valuation. |
The amounts should not be averaged. They may refer to different dates, definitions of assets, or proceedings. In particular, an estate figure reported during litigation is not necessarily the same as personal net worth at death, lifetime career earnings, or the amount eventually distributed to an heir.
How much money did Arturo Gatti leave behind?
In 2011, Canadian Press described a $3.4 million fortune at issue in the Quebec inheritance case and reported that Rodrigues’s lawyer estimated $3 million to $3.5 million remained in the estate. The estate’s assets were divided between Canada and the United States, and some were frozen amid legal proceedings. This is a snapshot from the litigation, not a complete accounting of Gatti’s lifetime income or a present-day valuation.

Quebec Superior Court Justice Claudine Roy upheld Gatti’s 2009 will, under which his wife, Amanda Rodrigues, was sole heir. The Canadian Press reported Roy’s statement: “Mr. Gatti voluntarily signed the will in 2009 and named Ms. Rodrigues as his sole heir.” The ruling concerned the will and inheritance; it was not a finding about the cause of Gatti’s death.
Why is his net worth difficult to verify?
A boxer’s reported purse is only one part of a financial picture. A reliable net-worth calculation would also need records of taxes, management and training costs, spending, investments, debts, and assets. The sources cited here do not provide those records or a complete balance sheet. Nor does a court’s description of estate assets during a dispute necessarily capture the same date or categories as a net-worth estimate.

What his boxing career tells us—and what it does not
Gatti competed professionally from 1991 to 2007. The International Boxing Hall of Fame lists his retirement record as 40 wins, nine losses, and 31 knockouts; he held the IBF junior lightweight and WBC super lightweight titles. His trilogy with Micky Ward, especially their first and third fights, helped define his legacy. The Hall of Fame credits those bouts with Fight of the Year recognition in 2002 and 2003.
The New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame says Gatti’s bouts were named The Ring Fight of the Year four times and notes that he retired after losing to Alfonso Gomez in 2007. These achievements explain why his earnings attract interest, but career records and honors do not establish total purse income or net worth.

What is known about his death—and what the estate case did not decide
Gatti was found dead in Brazil on July 11, 2009. Brazilian authorities ruled his death a suicide and released Rodrigues without charge. Quebec coroner reporting summarized by Canadian Press said there was no “clear and hard evidence” of foul play and that suicide remained plausible. A private investigation commissioned by Gatti’s former manager challenged the official conclusion. These competing accounts should be attributed; the available sources do not establish homicide or responsibility for his death.
The 2011 Quebec will decision addressed whether the will was valid and who inherited under it. It should not be read as a ruling on the death investigation. CBS News’s 2011 coverage documented claims and disputes among relatives and associates alongside denials and contrary views.
