The government has announced two investment options—a non-refundable USD 350,000 contribution to the National Treasury or an USD 800,000 subscription to a program-specific public security—and said applications would be received during Q4 2026. It has not yet published a precise opening date, full security terms or a complete investment-route checklist. These are announced program details, not a guarantee of citizenship or approval.
Who is eligible for Argentina’s investment-based citizenship route?
Under Article 2(2) of Law 346, as amended by Decree 366/2025, a foreigner may apply for Argentine naturalization after proving to the National Directorate of Migration (Dirección Nacional de Migraciones, or DNM) that they made a “relevant investment” in Argentina, regardless of their period of residence. The law assigns the Ministry of Economy responsibility for defining what qualifies as relevant and allows it to designate particular investment projects. The statutory route therefore removes a stated minimum residence period, but it does not make naturalization automatic: the investment must qualify and the application remains subject to review.

The government’s 2 October 2026 announcement identifies two program options, but detailed operational rules and the full terms of one option are not included in the announcement. Before sending money or preparing a filing, confirm the current rules and instructions with the Citizenship by Investment Agency or DNM.

The Argentine government announced the following principal-applicant options on 2 October 2026:
#1 Best Overall
| Option | Announced amount | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| National Treasury contribution | USD 350,000 | A direct, non-refundable contribution to the National Treasury. |
| Program-specific public security | USD 800,000 | A subscription to a public security created specifically for the program. The announcement does not set out its full terms, payment mechanics, return, maturity or liquidity. |
Both options and descriptions are from the Argentine government’s 2 October 2026 program announcement. Do not treat the public security as a deposit, donation or guaranteed investment: its return and other financial terms are not established in that announcement.
How funds are to be reviewed
The government says funds must pass through the formal financial system and satisfy applicable anti-money-laundering, counter-terrorist-financing and financial-transparency standards. Its announced checks include identity, the legality and traceability of funds, the applicant’s asset and financial position, jurisdictional risk, criminal and reputational background, and migration history. The announcement does not provide a complete list of documents or evidence standards for these checks.

Can a spouse or children apply with the investor?
The government’s announcement says the principal applicant’s spouse and children may apply if they prove the family relationship and make the contribution specified for their category:
| Family member | Announced contribution | Conditions stated in the announcement |
|---|---|---|
| Spouse | USD 100,000 | Family relationship must be established. |
| Child aged 18–25 | USD 100,000 | Must be unmarried and have no children; family relationship must be established. |
| Child under 18 | USD 25,000 per child | Family relationship must be established. |
The government’s announced example total is USD 500,000 for a principal applicant, a spouse and two minor children. It has not fully explained whether family members must use the principal applicant’s payment mechanism or specified the detailed evidence required to prove family relationships. Confirm both points in the operative rules.

How does the application process work?
Decree 524/2025 sets out the review sequence. It describes how the Agency evaluates an investment and forwards a recommendation; DNM makes the final decision.
- Check that the proposed investment matches the operative rules. Law 346 gives the Ministry of Economy authority to define “relevant investment.” The government has announced two options, but applicants should verify their terms and the applicable evidence requirements in current official materials.
- Apply to the Citizenship by Investment Agency. Under Decree 524/2025, the foreign applicant applies to the Agency, which evaluates whether the investment qualifies as relevant under the Ministry’s rules.
- Complete the government and security review. If the Agency considers the investment relevant, the decree directs it to seek views from the security ministry, the Financial Information Unit (UIF), the criminal-record registry, RENAPER, SIDE and any other bodies it considers necessary. The Agency then sends DNM a reasoned report recommending approval or rejection. If it considers the investment non-relevant, or consulted bodies provide negative assessments, the Agency recommends rejection.
- Wait for DNM’s decision. DNM must analyze the Agency’s report and issue a reasoned grant or refusal within 30 business days of receiving that report. This statutory decision period does not cover the Agency’s earlier assessment or the time required to obtain outside reports.
- Use the official investment-route instructions once published. The government announced that intake would become operational during Q4 2026, but its 2 October announcement does not name a precise opening day, an investment-route portal or a complete filing checklist.
How this differs from ordinary naturalization
Argentina also has a separate residence-based naturalization route. The two routes have different eligibility tests and should not be confused: the investment route does not state a minimum residence period, while the ordinary route depends on legal, continuous residence.
Rank #4
| Feature | Investment route | Ordinary residence route |
|---|---|---|
| Basic eligibility | Prove a relevant investment in Argentina; no minimum residence period is stated in Law 346. | Applicant must be at least 18 and have lived legally and continuously in Argentina for the preceding two years. |
| Physical presence rule | No minimum residence period is stated for this route in Law 346. | For this route, the amended law defines continuous residence as remaining in Argentina throughout the period without leaving the country. |
| Investment or contribution | Government-announced principal options: USD 350,000 non-refundable Treasury contribution or USD 800,000 program-specific public security. | No investment requirement is described in the ordinary-route rules. |
| Filing and documents | Agency review followed by a report to DNM; the complete investment-route checklist and filing instructions are not stated in the 2 October 2026 government announcement. | DNM’s 3 October 2025 notice describes online RaDEX filing for this route. It lists a DNI, updated criminal-record certificate, proof of occupation or livelihood, and CUIT/CUIL for initial submission; DNM may request more documents. |
| Decision timing | DNM’s 30-business-day period begins when it receives the Agency report; the end-to-end processing time is not stated. | The cited DNM notice does not state a complete processing time. |
The RaDEX instructions and document list above belong to the ordinary residence route. They are not an established application checklist for investment-based naturalization.
