In October 2025, Microsoft told Windows Central that the two retailers remained partners for Xbox products. Individual stores may have smaller selections or be temporarily out of stock, so check the live listing or contact your local store before making a trip.
What the October 2025 reports actually established
A Notebookcheck article published October 12, 2025, and updated October 5, 2026, described employee and shopper accounts of local Xbox sections and stock. It also noted that Walmart and Target had not announced a change to Xbox availability. Its headline should not be read as proof of a chain-wide discontinuation. Notebookcheck’s report
In a report published the following day, Windows Central described a Walmart phone call, contact with a Target employee, and store checks. Microsoft told the outlet: “Target and Walmart, among other retailers, remain committed partners for Xbox consoles, accessories, and games.” That was Microsoft’s statement as reported by Windows Central—not a direct statement from either retailer. The reporting is historical and does not verify what is available at a store today. Windows Central’s account
Why an Xbox section may look smaller
Some 2026 Reddit posts describe reduced Xbox shelf space at an individual Walmart and an individual Target. Those are local shopper observations, not confirmation of a company-wide policy. A smaller display or empty shelf can reflect a store-level assortment or temporary stock issue; it does not establish that every location has stopped selling Xbox products. How to check before you shop
- Search the retailer’s current website or app for the exact item, such as an Xbox Series X console, Xbox Series S console, game, or accessory.
- Check whether the listing shows online availability, local pickup, or delivery for your location. These options can differ by product and store.
- If the listing is unclear, contact the specific store to confirm stock before traveling. A past news report or a photo of another store’s shelves is not a live inventory check.
- Compare the exact model, storage capacity, and current listed price before choosing an alternative; do not assume that another Xbox model or a game has the same availability.
Xbox pricing and model changes are separate from retailer policy
Microsoft’s Xbox Wire announcement dated June 25, 2026, said worldwide console price changes would take effect August 1, 2026: prices increased by US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models. Microsoft also said it would sunset the 2 TB model. These product and pricing changes do not show that Walmart or Target has ended Xbox sales. Check the current retailer listing for the model and price available to you. Xbox Wire’s pricing announcement
