Only certain 13 oz bags of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips were included in Frito-Lay’s recall for possible undeclared milk. The notice lists distribution to certain retailers and e-commerce distributors in Oregon and Washington—not a nationwide pull. To identify a potentially affected bag, check its UPC, “Guaranteed Fresh” date, and manufacturing code together.

Which Lay’s bags are included in the recall?

A bag must match all three identifiers in Frito-Lay’s notice:

  • Size and product: 13 oz bag of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips
  • UPC: 28400 31041
  • “Guaranteed Fresh” date: 11 FEB 2025
  • Manufacturing code: 6462307xx or 6463307xx

The date and manufacturing code are printed on the bag. Do not rely on the UPC alone: the notice identifies affected packages using the UPC together with the date and one of the listed manufacturing codes. See the FDA-hosted recall announcement for the identifying details.

Where were the recalled bags distributed?

Frito-Lay said the affected bags were shipped to certain retailers and e-commerce distributors in Oregon and Washington. The announcement does not describe a nationwide distribution. Consumers could have purchased the product as early as November 3, 2024.

The notice says no other Lay’s products, flavors, sizes, or variety packs were included. The company announcement is dated December 16, 2024; the FDA page hosting it was published December 18, 2024. FDA notes that hosting a company announcement is a public service and does not mean FDA endorses the company or product.

Why was the product recalled?

The concern was possible undeclared milk, an allergen that can cause a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction in people with a milk allergy or severe sensitivity. Frito-Lay said it was alerted through a consumer contact. At the time of the announcement, the company reported no related allergic reactions.

What should you do if you have a matching bag?

  1. Compare the bag’s product, size, UPC, “Guaranteed Fresh” date, and manufacturing code with the criteria above.
  2. If it matches and you have a milk allergy or sensitivity, do not eat it. Frito-Lay’s instruction is to discard the product immediately.
  3. For questions, contact Frito-Lay Consumer Relations at 1-800-352-4477, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Central time.

Frito-Lay said it informed FDA of the action. The FDA-hosted notice reproduces the company’s consumer instruction: “If consumers have an allergy or sensitivity to milk, they should not consume the product and discard it immediately.”
