1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsYes, some iPhones have contained components made by Samsung companies—but Samsung does not make the entire iPhone. Apple designs the product and sets its specifications, while specialist suppliers make individual parts and contract manufacturers assemble finished phones. Which suppliers contribute can vary by model, production run, and year, and Apple does not publish a complete parts list for every iPhone configuration.
What does “made with Samsung parts” mean?
It can mean that a Samsung business manufactured one component used in an iPhone. It does not mean Samsung designed the phone, supplied every part, or assembled the finished device. Those are separate roles in a complex supply chain.
- Product design and specifications: Apple determines the iPhone’s design, operating system, system architecture, and requirements for components.
- Component manufacturing: Suppliers fabricate parts—such as display panels or memory chips—to meet Apple’s requirements.
- Subassembly and testing: Suppliers and manufacturing partners combine and test components at different stages.
- Final assembly: Apple’s contract manufacturers assemble and test complete phones. A company that makes a chip or display is not necessarily the company that puts the phone together.
Apple’s public supplier list names Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Samsung SDI among companies involved in Apple manufacturing. It is useful evidence of supplier relationships and manufacturing locations, but it is not a current, model-by-model iPhone bill of materials. A listing does not establish that a company supplies a particular part for every current iPhone.
Which Samsung businesses may supply Apple?
“Samsung” refers to several distinct businesses, not one undifferentiated factory. Their possible roles—and how firmly those roles are established publicly—are different.

| Samsung business | What the public evidence supports | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Samsung Display | It has supplied OLED panels to Apple. Industry reports identify Samsung Display as a significant supplier for Apple’s OLED products. | That every iPhone uses a Samsung panel, or the supplier for a particular unit. Apple does not publish a complete current model-by-model allocation. |
| Samsung Electronics | Samsung has supplied memory and semiconductor-related components historically. Apple also announced work with Samsung at its Austin fab on chip-manufacturing technology for Apple products, including iPhone devices. | The exact chip types, iPhone models, production volumes, or whether Samsung makes the main application processor in every current iPhone. |
| Samsung SDI | It appears in Apple’s supplier documentation. | That Samsung SDI supplies the battery in a particular current iPhone. The supplier list does not provide a model-specific battery breakdown. |
| Samsung Electro-Mechanics | It appears in Apple’s supplier documentation and makes electronic components and modules. | Which specific components, if any, it supplies to each current iPhone model. |
Apple’s supplier list is primary evidence for named supplier relationships, but its labeling and scope do not turn it into a definitive inventory for a particular phone. The distinction matters most for Samsung SDI and Samsung Electro-Mechanics: their presence on the list should not be converted into an unsupported claim about a specific iPhone battery or module.
Has Samsung supplied iPhone displays?
Yes. Samsung Display has been an important OLED-panel supplier to Apple. That does not mean the iPhone uses a Galaxy display as a finished, interchangeable product. Apple specifies the panel and integrates it into its own hardware and software system; manufacturing a panel is different from designing the phone or determining its calibration and user experience.
Apple can qualify more than one display supplier, and the mix can change with model, size, manufacturing capacity, production yield, and timing. Industry reports describe Samsung Display and LG Display as suppliers for Apple’s 2026 OLED lineup, but those reports are not a complete Apple-confirmed parts list. See the reports from 9to5Mac and MacRumors for their reported sourcing details.

Has Samsung supplied iPhone memory or chips?
Memory: documented historically, but not necessarily identical across units
Samsung has supplied memory for iPhones historically. Reuters reporting on teardowns of iPhone XS and XS Max units described components from different suppliers, including memory from multiple companies across the devices examined. The important point is that a teardown reports what was found in the inspected phone; it does not prove that every phone of that model used the same vendor. Reuters’ teardown report illustrates why a single unit cannot stand in for an entire production run.
Apple’s chips: design and fabrication are separate
Apple designs its application processors, but designing a chip and fabricating it are different jobs. Apple’s August 2025 announcement described work with Samsung at its Austin, Texas, fab on a manufacturing technology intended to supply chips for Apple products, including iPhone devices shipped worldwide. The announcement does not identify every chip type, iPhone model, or production volume, so it should not be read as confirmation that Samsung makes the main processor in every current iPhone.
The same Apple announcement separately described Apple silicon manufactured at TSMC’s Arizona fab and packaging and testing investment with Amkor. That is a useful example of how design, wafer fabrication, packaging, and testing can involve different companies. Apple’s August 2025 manufacturing announcement establishes the announced relationships and plans, not a full parts list for a retail model. Apple’s March 2026 program update also listed Samsung among the initial partners in its American Manufacturing Program.

Who else makes parts, and who assembles iPhones?
An iPhone is a multinational product, not the output of one company or country. Apple’s manufacturing announcements describe a broad supplier network that includes companies such as Corning, TSMC, Amkor, Broadcom, GlobalFoundries, Texas Instruments, and Samsung. For example, Apple and Corning announced plans for all iPhone and Apple Watch cover glass to be produced at Corning’s Kentucky facility. That is one part of the supply chain, not evidence that the entire phone is made there.
Final assembly is performed by Apple’s contract manufacturing partners, rather than by Samsung’s Galaxy smartphone factories as a general rule. Apple’s 2026 supply-chain progress report identifies iPhone assembly in India, alongside manufacturing activity in multiple countries. The report is evidence of assembly in India, not a claim that every iPhone is assembled there. Apple’s 2026 supply-chain progress report and its announcement with Corning show why “where an iPhone is made” can have more than one answer: parts are manufactured in different places before final assembly.

Why would Apple buy from its biggest smartphone rival?
Apple and Samsung compete in finished smartphones while Samsung’s component businesses sell into a broader electronics market. That is a form of business “coopetition”: two companies can be rivals in one market and suppliers or customers in another.

- Supplier diversification: Qualifying more than one source for a component can reduce dependence on a single factory or supplier.
- Commercial leverage and continuity: Multiple capable suppliers can help Apple manage cost, capacity constraints, and production risks.
Buying a component from Samsung does not make the iPhone a Samsung-designed product. Apple controls how the component is specified and integrated, while the Samsung business involved may also supply other customers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why can two iPhones of the same model have different suppliers?
Apple generally does not publish a consumer-facing bill of materials for each model, storage tier, region, and production batch. Suppliers may be allocated differently as capacity, yield, demand, and sourcing plans change. A supplier list maps relationships; a teardown shows the parts in one device. Neither alone tells a buyer which supplier made every component in every phone of a model.
- Model and size: Different iPhone versions may use different component specifications or sourcing arrangements.
- Production timing: A supplier’s share can change as factories ramp up or yields shift.
- Capacity and regional logistics: Manufacturing location and availability can affect allocation.
- Configuration: Storage tier or other configuration differences can correspond to different component sourcing, though Apple does not publicly map all such variation.
Apple’s supplier documentation and public manufacturing plans provide useful evidence, but they are not a complete model-specific parts inventory. Commercial confidentiality, sourcing flexibility, and substitution during production all make a single public list an incomplete way to identify the components in a particular retail unit.

What can a teardown prove?
A teardown may reveal markings or identifiers on memory, display controllers, modems, power-management chips, camera components, or other board-level parts. It can provide strong evidence about the unit that was opened, especially when the component markings are legible and the identification is reliable.
- It can show: Which identifiable components were present in that inspected device.
- It cannot establish: That every unit of the model, storage tier, or region uses the same suppliers.
- It usually cannot establish: Apple’s total purchase volumes, contractual terms, or whether a part is exclusive to Apple.
For those reasons, teardown findings should be treated as unit-level evidence rather than a universal specification. Disassembling a phone just to identify a supplier is not a practical step for most owners.
Does a Samsung component make an iPhone less “Apple”?
No. A supplier may manufacture a component to Apple’s specifications, but Apple still determines the product’s design, operating system, hardware integration, and the way its components work together. A Samsung Display panel is not a Galaxy phone, just as a memory chip does not determine the identity of the complete device.
For repairs, distinguish an original component supplied into Apple’s manufacturing chain from a replacement part bought separately. Those are not automatically the same thing. Apple says parts not sourced from Apple can vary in quality and may be used or modified; its parts and service history guidance explains the status information available on supported devices. A maker’s name alone does not establish a replacement part’s provenance, condition, compatibility, or repair-program support.
