Some G2A keys may be legitimate and redeemable, but a listing on G2A is not a guarantee that a particular key is authentic, compatible with your account, or accepted by the platform. G2A describes itself as a marketplace connecting buyers with sellers; the transaction is between those parties, not necessarily a direct sale by G2A. Treat each offer as a separate purchase decision: check its details, seller, total cost, and remedy terms before paying.
What does “legit” mean when you buy a G2A key?
“Legit” can mean several different things: that G2A is a functioning marketplace, that sellers are subject to marketplace checks, or that one specific code is genuine and will activate for you. Those are not interchangeable. G2A’s terms describe a marketplace transaction between a seller and a buyer, with G2A providing marketplace tools and certain additional services. The identity of the seller on a particular offer therefore matters.

Even if a marketplace has seller checks and anti-fraud controls, those controls do not independently prove the provenance or redemption outcome of every code. A key may also be genuine but unsuitable for your purchase if it is for a different edition, platform, or activation region.
What safeguards does G2A say it uses?
G2A says it verifies business sellers and uses fraud-prevention systems. Its buyer guidance also points to listing details such as platform, compatibility, description, price, and seller ratings. These are useful signals to consider, but they are company descriptions of its controls—not independent verification that a given listing is legitimate or will work.

G2A has also previously made claims about the legitimacy of keys on its marketplace in response to a controversy involving Gearbox. That is historical company commentary, not independent, current authentication of individual offers. The available information does not establish a current independent audit or transaction-level proof for each key.
How to evaluate an offer before paying
Compare the offer with the account and device you will actually use. A low displayed price is not enough if the code is for the wrong version, cannot be activated in your region, or comes with terms you would not accept.

- Match the game and edition. Check the exact title, edition, and any included content against what you intend to buy.
- Confirm the platform. Make sure the key is for the service or console account where you plan to redeem it. A game title appearing on multiple platforms does not make their keys interchangeable.
- Check the activation region. Read the offer’s region and compatibility information and confirm it works for your account region. Do not assume a key can be activated worldwide.
- Review the seller. Read the seller information and ratings shown on the listing. These can inform your decision, but they are not proof that this particular code will work.
- Read delivery and remedy terms. Check how and when the key will be delivered and what the offer says about returns, replacement, or other remedies if it is missing or non-working.
- Check the checkout total. Review the final amount and payment details before confirming. Decide based on that total, not only the listing price.
What to do if a key does not activate
- Recheck the title, edition, platform, and region against the offer and the account where you are redeeming it.
- Enter the code carefully, then save the exact error message. A screenshot can help document what happened.
- Keep your order details and contact the seller or G2A support through the marketplace’s current support process. Explain the error and provide the relevant order information.
- Review the specific offer terms and current support guidance for any available remedy before assuming you qualify for a refund or replacement.
G2A’s buyer guidance says Steam does not provide refunds for third-party keys bought from external sellers and directs buyers to the store where they purchased the key. That does not establish that every G2A order has the same outcome: the marketplace terms describe seller-buyer transactions, and available remedies can depend on the offer and applicable policies.
Is paying for a G2A purchase the same as sending a voucher code elsewhere?
No. G2A’s safety article dated September 2, 2026, warns about outside parties asking someone to buy a G2A gift card or voucher and transfer its code to unlock an unrelated external service. That is different from completing a purchase through the marketplace. Do not send a voucher code to an unrelated person or service on the promise that it will unlock something outside the marketplace.

When might another buying channel suit you better?
If you want a more direct source for a game, consider buying from the game’s publisher or an official store. This does not make every other channel risk-free, but it avoids treating a third-party marketplace listing as proof of a key’s origin. Choose the route that fits your budget and your tolerance for checking seller, compatibility, and remedy terms.
