Maybe—but availability depends on the card issuer and your country of residence, not simply on whether you can use a crypto exchange app. Once issued, a crypto card may work abroad at merchants that accept its Visa or Mastercard network, but issuer rules, sanctions, merchant policies, fraud checks, and fees can limit transactions. To identify cards you can apply for, you need to check your country against each issuer’s current eligibility rules.
How to check whether a crypto card is available where you live
Start with your country of residence and the named card, then check the issuer’s live application flow and cardholder terms. Issuers may require an eligible address, a verified account, identity checks, or other onboarding steps. Being able to open an exchange account in your country does not mean its card is available there.
- Choose a specific card. Availability is determined by the card program and issuer, not by the general availability of cryptocurrency services.
- Check the issuer’s country list or application flow. Confirm that residents of your country can apply and that your account meets the issuer’s requirements.
- Read the card terms for your region. Check the card type, network, restricted uses, fees, limits, and countries where transactions are blocked.
- Recheck before applying or travelling. Eligibility and terms can change; an issuer’s current application flow and cardholder agreement are more useful than a general claim that a brand operates internationally.
Examples from issuer pages
Coinbase’s UK/EU Card page lists eligible residents in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. Applicants need a valid Coinbase account and identity verification. The page also lists countries where that UK/EU card cannot be used; it is not a global statement about every Coinbase card or service. Check Coinbase’s UK/EU Card eligibility details.
Binance says verified users in selected jurisdictions may be able to request its Global Card, issued through Immersve Limited on the Mastercard network. Its Australia-localized overview does not provide a complete country list in the cited passage; the onboarding flow is where users are told whether they qualify. Review Binance’s card information and confirm eligibility in your account.

Crypto.com describes its prepaid Visa or Mastercard as usable at locations accepting the applicable network, while saying restrictions, limits, and fees depend on jurisdiction and card tier. Its help center has separate regional fee information, so a fee table for one region should not be treated as a universal quote. Review Crypto.com Visa Card terms and help information.
What a crypto card does when you pay
A crypto card generally makes a card-network payment in fiat currency. The card program converts crypto to fiat as part of funding or processing the purchase; the merchant normally receives local currency through the card network rather than receiving your cryptocurrency directly. The conversion method, timing, rate, and fees vary by program. Visa explains that “Crypto-linked cards don’t mean consumers are sending a digital currency directly to the merchant when you tap your card or use your Visa credential.” Read Visa’s explanation of crypto-linked cards.

Before relying on a card while travelling, check which asset or balance is spent, how the conversion rate is set, what currency the card is billed in, and whether the program charges a crypto-conversion fee or spread. Also check how it handles refunds and declined transactions; program mechanics differ.
Will your card work when you travel?
A Visa or Mastercard logo is a useful sign of likely acceptance, not a promise that every purchase or cash withdrawal will go through. The issuer can restrict transactions by country, merchant category, or card terms. Local law, sanctions, the merchant’s own policy, and fraud controls can also block a transaction. Visa says its cards are generally usable where Visa is accepted, subject to exceptions including sanctions, local regulation, country-limited issuance, and temporary fraud-related declines. See Visa’s travel and acceptance guidance.

Visa also says it and its affiliates must comply with U.S. sanctions administered by OFAC, citing Iran, North Korea, and Syria as examples of countrywide prohibitions. Issuers may face sanctions obligations in their own jurisdictions too. Check the specific card issuer’s current restricted-country terms rather than assuming a network logo overrides them.
Hotels, rentals, fuel pumps, and other holds
Prepaid cards can be inconvenient when a merchant needs a deposit or temporary authorization. Hotels and car-rental companies may require a credit card, and a merchant may reserve more than the final bill. Crypto.com gives examples of hotel or rental excess holds taking up to 60 days after the stay or rental to return to available balance, gas-pump holds of around $50–150, and extra holds for gratuities on some restaurant or service transactions. These are Crypto.com’s examples, not guaranteed amounts or timing for every card or merchant. Review Crypto.com’s card-use restrictions and hold guidance.

At some terminals and ATMs, you may be offered a choice between paying in the local currency or having the transaction converted into your card’s billing currency. Visa says cardholders must be offered the option to process in local currency. Compare the displayed conversion terms before choosing: paying in local currency does not necessarily eliminate fees charged by your issuer or card program.

Work out the full potential cost by checking the issuer’s foreign-exchange fee, the network’s conversion, crypto conversion fees or spread, the card’s ATM fee, and any charge imposed by the local ATM operator. Binance’s Global Program page, updated June 1, 2026, lists region-specific terms: foreign-exchange fees of 0% for a named group including Colombia, Peru, parts of the CIS region, and Armenia; 2% for the rest of the card-available countries; and 3% for New Zealand. The page also lists a 0.9% crypto-conversion fee and a 0.1% USDC conversion fee for the rest of available countries and New Zealand. Mastercard/network, local, third-party, and conversion-spread charges may also apply. These are Binance Global Program terms for the named regions, not typical or universal crypto-card rates. Check Binance’s current program and regional fee terms.
Crypto.com says ATM charges, interbank exchange rates, top-up fees, and limits can vary by jurisdiction and card tier. Confirm the current fee settings and the cardholder agreement for your region before withdrawing cash; an ATM operator may add its own fee. Check Crypto.com’s regional card information.
