Sometimes—but only when the package costs less than the things you would actually buy without it. Compare the full price for every required traveler and cruise day with the realistic à-la-carte cost of the drinks, internet access, or specialty meals you expect to use. Then subtract anything already included in your fare or promotion.
There is no universal drink count or package price that guarantees a deal: inclusions, restrictions, and prices vary by cruise line, sailing, and booking. Use the package terms and prices attached to your own reservation.

How to decide whether a package saves you money
For each add-on, estimate the cost of the specific purchases you would make without it, then compare that figure with the package’s all-in cost. A convenient bundle is not necessarily a cheaper one.
- Find the full package cost. Check how many cruise days and guests it covers, whether every eligible adult in a room must buy it, and whether service charges or gratuities apply.
- Estimate your actual use. Count the drinks, internet access, or specialty meals you genuinely expect to use—not a hypothetical maximum.
- Check coverage and limits. Look for eligible venues, excluded items, device or data restrictions, meal counts, and booking rules.
- Remove what is already included. Account for standard dining, promotional benefits, credits, and any other package attached to your booking.
- Compare like with like. Subtract the package’s all-in cost from the à-la-carte cost of the benefits you would otherwise purchase. A positive result suggests potential savings; a negative result means paying separately may cost less.
For a bundle, value each benefit separately. Do not count an excursion, drink, or meal as a saving if you would not otherwise buy it.

Are cruise drink packages worth it?
They can be worthwhile for travelers who will use enough of the included drinks at covered venues to exceed the package’s total cost. The result depends on the particular package, drink rules, itinerary, and who must purchase it. There is no reliable break-even drink count without those details.
Before buying, compare the package with the drinks you actually expect to order and check what is excluded. For example, Royal Caribbean says its beverage packages are honored at bars and lounges, the Windjammer Café, the Main Dining Room, and private destinations during normal business hours, but not for room service or minibar purchases. Some sailings may not offer a beverage package. Royal Caribbean’s beverage FAQ has the line’s current terms.
Room rules can change the calculation. Royal Caribbean requires all guests of legal drinking age in the same stateroom to buy an alcoholic beverage package if one guest buys it. Other beverage packages may be purchased individually, but packages are for single-guest use and cannot be shared. Check the policy for your sailing before comparing a per-person price with what one traveler would spend.

There is also a dated inclusion change to check: Royal Caribbean says the Deluxe Beverage Package and Refreshment Package no longer include a Coca-Cola Freestyle cup beginning March 15, 2026; guests may buy one onboard for $4.99 to use Freestyle machines. Confirm the policy on the official FAQ before relying on it.

Is cruise Wi-Fi worth paying for?
It depends on how much access you need, how many people or devices need it, and what the package provides. Compare the cost of the connection you would actually use with the package’s data, speed, streaming, device, and billing rules. A limited allowance may suit occasional access but may not replace a full internet plan.
NCL’s Free at Sea page describes 150 minutes of Wi-Fi for guests in the stateroom. It lists an optional Voyage Wi-Fi Pass at $29.99 per stateroom per day, with a stated speed of 1.5 Mbps, and a Streaming Voyage Wi-Fi Pass at $39.99 per stateroom per day. These are NCL’s listed figures, not general cruise-industry prices; verify the offer and current terms for your booking. NCL Free at Sea details.
Rank #4
Paying for an upgrade is most defensible when its specific access level solves a need you have, such as streaming or more than the included minutes. If you would use only a small allowance, compare that need with what your reservation already includes before adding a pass.

Compare the number of specialty meals included with the number you would actually book, along with any booking restrictions and the cost of those meals separately. If the fare or a promotion already includes dining benefits, count only additional meals you would otherwise pay for.
Best Value
NCL’s Free at Sea offer describes three specialty dining experiences on a seven-day cruise. Its Free at Sea Plus page says the upgrade gives 50% off additional specialty-dining nights. Those benefits matter only if you plan to use the included meals or discounted extra nights; check the offer version and terms linked to your sailing before assigning them value. NCL’s offer page.
